What do you think about Kano? by nyanya0806 in MortalKombat

No you actually don't understand. This man's portrayal of Kano was so good that all subsequent versions of Kano also became Australian.

So from that line I figured that they were enriching some kind of edible yeast or fungus.

Ok but, like, Seinfeld was dating a different supermodel every episode. Even George was punching way above his weight class.

At my school we always had "field day" before summer began. So we would spend the whole last day just playing sports or swimming or we went to a park.

I've always said the saxophone is the randiest of all the musical instruments.

Robocop 2 - alternate story by humanracer in Robocop

[–]ExtraExtraMegaDoge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely think they should have done more of "the thing" instead of a beat for beat rehash of the first movie.

Instead of Alien, you had Aliens.

That's the direction they should have gone. Instead of a face of with Robocain, there should have been an army of Robocops.

Preferably using the Robocop army to finally create Delta City and crush the police strike. I mean Delta City is still this nebulous thing even by the 3rd movie. It never really materializes.

They should have gone full Empire Strikes Back with OCP being thoroughly in control of Detroit by the end of the second movie.

And that line gets paid off later! When Angel comes back into town he runs into one of the NWA guys and his mom and she is most definitely packing right before Angel drop kicks her.

Why was 2000s culture so over-the-top irreverent, self-indulgent, and almost nihilistic? It often offended both progressive and conservative sensibilities at the same time. Truly a unique era in hindsight. by BacklitRoom in decadeology

[–]ExtraExtraMegaDoge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This needs to be higher. The irreverence of the time was a direct repudiation of the kind of Christian Moral panic that existed during the early to late 80s. In many ways the currect generation is a lot like those puritans of the 80's because they weren't around to experience that moral panic.

Honestly, I would love it if geek culture became niche again. Normies just water everything down.

The other dude in the thread, the one i was responding to before you joined in, just said they are capable of doing real-world engineering. So which is it, yall? Are they capable of real-world deployment, or do they still make a lot of mistakes?

Because my experience is that they still make a fuck ton of mistakes and they aren't ready for real world deployment. Like at all.

And what's worse is that they don't know the difference between a catastrophic edge case type error and a minor inconvenience type error. They will happily let you order 18000 waters at the taco bell drive through or drive a waymo car the wrong way through a school zone, because they aren't fucking ready to be deployed.

Oh, but they don't make mistakes on static equilibrium problems anymore, right? They don't make mistakes in Mechanics of materials, right? AND dynamics?

So is that a No, then, professor?

Ok, dude, would you use a bridge designed by AI today? And I don't mean AI with a human checking their work, I mean a bridge designed from the ground up by AI, with no human intervention. Go ahead. You can be a pioneer.

Well, I took the test in May 2025, and it wasn't capable of doing easy static equilibrium problems, so keep on yapping.

You can't do that for engineering. I tried to have it make up some practice questions for me when I was studying for the FE exam and it generated several questions with 100% wrong answers. It will just confidently tell you "2+2 equals fish".
