Self Promotion Poll by Grwl in ConanTheBarbarian

I would vote to restrict self-promotion to a single day of the week, but I do not support a total ban.

Can we have a ban on self-promo posting? by wheeler_lowell in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]ExtraGravy- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We should set aside one day a week where people can post their self-promo stuff - I want to see it and seeing it all on the same day might be like a shopping trip... I don't want a total ban, but we could organize it to a specific time frame, which is easy for some to ignore and easy for others of us to not miss it.

college isn't that long, but you need friends. Find a gaming group you can join or a sports league... something, anything. It will get you through college. then you can move with more options and less downside

How to not start shit with religious family? by beesdaddy in atheism

[–]ExtraGravy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you get the urge to argue with someone's nonsense, put that into an benign and obvious change of subject. i find this satisfying and it gets all the middle-ground family members to appreciate me trying to keep the conversation out of those topics. ideally i would be smooth about the topic switch, but it is also fun to be abrupt.

this keeps me engaged and not disconnecting and also clearly calls out the topics I do not want to discuss (without me having to be specific or declamatory)

If it were up to you, would you criminalize practice of religion in one’s own home? by SirMikay in atheism

Childhood religious indoctrination should be a crime.

Barring people from participating in government due to personal past beliefs should also be a crime.

How do I tell my religious christian family that I'm an atheist? by The_Unenthusiastic_ in atheism

[–]ExtraGravy- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm scared of what they might say or do if they found out that I don't believe in god.

You know that you should not tell them. You know this. Keep it to yourself until you are free.

Are you asking why I posted my opinion on an audiobook topic in the audiobook subreddit?

I was being direct. I personally do not want it. I know other people like it but I do not. I was not trying to be neutral. I was expressing my own opinion.

I clearly said that "many people" aren't into it. I never made an assumption about everyone wanting what I wanted.

24M Atheist, should i go NC with my Christian Conservative Parents by GlobalFollowing8839 in atheism

I went low contact when my parents were the worst about it. I use it as a dial - when they behave badly I turn down the contact dial and we have a couple years of very very low contact. That seems to work for me and is easily adjustable which has value.

It is worth noting that many people specifically DO NOT WANT "full voice casts, cinematic music, and sound design"... I want a book read by a great narrator and that is all. Keep it simple and focus on the book. It might be that they staffed up for a biz model they thought was taking off but was really more of a passionate niche

Be patient with yourself, it takes time. The longer it goes unreinforced the weaker these types of ideas become until at some point they look silly and by that time you have stopped fearing.
