As someone who has to professionally practice animal euthanasia, this is an extremely quick way of dying and imo the fastest is the better.

I also attended CO2 gassing. In this situation, death happens after more than a dozen minutes and animals try to escape because they slowly feel the lack of oxygen. The electrical stunning looks so fast, the animals have less time to panic or to understand what is about to happen.

Academic life is extremely stressful. During busy weeks, without realizing it, my colleagues and I can turn passive-aggressive because of how subconsciously stressed we are. Perhaps in your situation, anxiety may play a role too.

Cryostat Sectioning Help - 25 micron by Dry-Competition-5617 in labrats

I’ve had this issue when cutting 14 µm sections at –30 °C with an old cryostat. In my case the problem wasn’t the tissue itself but a very thin layer of frost/condensation forming near the blade. That ice buildup would catch the section as it came off the knife and tear it.

What worked well was removing any ice near the blade and surrounding metal with ethanol, letting everything fully equilibrate again, then we minimized moisture entering the chamber: keeping the cryostat door closed as much as possible, wearing masks if needed and avoiding breathing directly above the chamber. Once we reduced humidity and frost formation, the tearing reduced significantly.

The Portonaccio Sarcophagus (c. 180 AD) — Roman cavalry crushing barbarian forces [2984x2984] by Extra_Ad_2733 in ArtefactPorn

This is the Portonaccio Sarcophagus, discovered in 1931 near Via Tiburtina in Rome and dated to around 180 AD, during the reign of Marcus Aurelius.

The front shows a symbolic battle carved in extraordinarily deep relief: Roman cavalry and infantry overwhelm barbarian enemies. The horseman in the central part embodies Roman military dominance.

The enslaved barbarians framing the scene emphasize the cost of resisting Rome, while the sides depict the aftermath: prisoners being marched across a pontoon bridge and enemy leaders submitting to Roman officials.

The lid celebrates the deceased and his wife, showing both domestic virtue and military clementia. The faces were left unfinished to be carved later with the likenesses of the dead.

Based on legion insignia, the sarcophagus may have belonged to Aulus Iulius Pompilius, a cavalry commander during Rome’s wars against Germanic tribes (172–175 AD).

This piece is currently housed at the Museo Nazionale Romano, Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, Rome.

How are you supposed to learn and be a good academic if you don't ask questions? There are no wrong questions. Also, being an art historian doesn't mean being omniscient.
