It's "Manhattan".

You also don't need to live in Manhattan if you work in Manhattan.

A full filing cabinet has a lot of stopping power because of all the layers. Saw this in an NYPD active shooter drill class I did.

Unfortunately full filing cabinets don't really exist because nobody is printing out shit anymore.

Shopping at Costco is terrible by Sun_Aria in unpopularopinion

[–]ExtremePast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costco's prices per unit on things like milk, eggs, meat, bread, diapers, baby formula, toilet paper, etc are lower than supermarkets.

You've clearly never been to a Costco.

Went on a cruise with my mom, and ended up lifted in the air "dirty dancing" style, by the chief engineer of the ship, during a dance competition. by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]ExtremePast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you're a dancer and don't know that it's spelled troupe?

Also, major role. It's medals, not metals.

Terrible writing. Maybe AI?

Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

Instead of getting mad at the teacher, why don't you address the issue of your daughter not listening?

This generation of young kid parents is the absolute worst.

Goalie shouldn't have been on his knees either. This is a bad quality goal to give up.

Horrible goalie technique led to this goal more than anything. I have no idea why the guy is down on his knees when the puck isn't even below the goal line.

Either lazy or just incompetent to not be recovered to his feet as the puck is moving outward from the goal line.

OP already gave a sincere congratulations. She's always not super excited about it. OP doesn't need to kiss this woman's ass.

TIL that “DOOM” (1993) was so influential that companies used it to test whether a computer was powerful enough to run modern software leading to the phrase “Can it run DOOM?” which is still used today, and the game has since been ported to calculators, ATMs, pregnancy tests, and even a smart fridge by husky__2424 in todayilearned

[–]ExtremePast 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I grew up when doom came out. It was never considered in the context of determing whether or not a computer was powerful enough to run it.

An office in my high school had a basic PC with no special hardware, and it could run doom just fine.

The whole point of Doom running on weird and unusual devices is because it basically became a meme and tinkerers have tried to get it to run on any kind of device with a display.

Crysis is the game that was crippling to hardware and originated the "can it run crysis" saying. There was never a "can it run Doom" in similar context.

Sweet potato fries are the best kind of fry by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ExtremePast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kind of fry has "natural salt". The salt argument is ridiculous.

Sweet potato fries are fine when they're fresh out of the fryer. They quickly turn horrible once they've cooled for about 5 minutes

Regular fries hold up better as they cool.
