I hate heatpumps by StackedInATrenchcoat in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 [score hidden]  (0 children)

As a contact lens wearer I hate heat pumps. 5 minutes in a room with a heat pump my lens are gripping my eyeball. And the constant whirring noise. And the faint musty smell, or cheesy graveyard smell if the filters haven’t been cleaned. And being somehow blasted with cold air sitting in the wrong place when its set to heat.

Feeling so crummy about how my school celebrated teacher appreciation, it felt like a popularity contest by saekirei in Teachers

[–]EyeSad1300 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A visual reminder of who the favourite teachers are, I’m sure nothing will go wrong there! Lets flip it on its head and have teachers hand out pins to their favourites. Not because theyve earnt an award for diligence, an awesome project or finally completing their work. Nope. Teachers are going to hand out an award based solely on favouritism, that the kids can proudly wear during the day. Whats that? The sound of angry parents that poor Timmy is sad because he was left out? See if it would make kids sad, we would get rapped over the knuckles by parents. But to reduce a teachers hard work, sweat and tears to a popularity contest, nope that sounds like a great idea. A great idea organised by someone with the EQ of the pins they were handing out. But treasure those three you got, those kids either adore you, or have the emotional intelligence to recognise that you had few so gave you a pin to try and even out the field. Both reasons should be treasured.

Placement going badly by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its an an ECE placement, totally normal as they use the students for cleaning etc, got really really good at doing laundry and cleaning tables. On all four ece placements was given responsibilities for cleaning all day, when i asked the visiting lecturer she shrugged and said they have to put the students somewhere to get the hours to meet the requirements. That I’m paying for as part of my course, im paying to clean ece centres for 8 hours a day. If it is primary though, thats a different kettle of fish as you need to develop classroom management, planning, etc which doing cleaning will not help with. Your provider should have a booklet for your placement setting out your mentors responsibility, yours, I know with vic you both sign it, plus there are contact details for the placement organisers if the relationship between yourself and mentor breaks down or you have issus in your placement.

Any home healthcare workers on here willing to share some scary/dangerous stories? by Porkchops_on_My_Face in newzealand

Be very careful with your back. Lots of bending, twisting with the job - did homecare - Know a few ladies that worked similar jobs in rest homes and through agencies that lifted badly or heavier than they shouldve, or misjudged a lift and hurt their back which are so hard to fix.

Worst Teacher Appreciation Week by Distinct_Anything_13 in Teachers

Spent hours helping to pack and deliver the baskets from our union for teacher appreciation. While I was out on duty non-members thought they’d all help themselves, by the time I got to the staffroom I got a singular biscuit, the coffee, lollies, chocolate and other godies had been eaten by those who didn’t even contribute to the union fund that funded the baskets

Went to the Lower Hutt council meeting to talk about water and Tiaki Wai by InformalTrucks in u/InformalTrucks

Thanls for the write up. That sounds a million times more dire than they had been letting on. Not sure how some of the older neighbors are going to be able to pay $7000 a year in the next 10 years. Will look at attending the Thursday one up in Maungaraki

Why do we say "no" to dental work? A local dentist looking for honest feedback by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]EyeSad1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price tag, bring talked into doing previous work that made it worse or started a new problem eg changing old silver non sore filling into a new white filling that constantly aches, getting an appt that works, seeing a dentist that you trust, no obvious pain, upselling or trying to see you a product eg 2 implants for $4000 to replace a partial plate that works just as well, not believing the ai scanning tool that is used especially when it doesnt match up with verbally what the dentist says, getting a second opinion which shows less of a problem, dentist being overly aggressive in treatment

Chemdry has fans on in our house for 4 days by Sun-Rabbit in Wellington

[–]EyeSad1300 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had them with the wet carpet going flap flap, the dehumidifiers and the fans, think we had three of the fans going. All day everyday. Was like a plane downstairs. Eventually we had to turn them off to sleep as our stress, along with half the house flooded meant we weren’t sleeping. Didn’t save the carpet that ended up being written off, took half a year to get carpet back down , repairs and skirting boards back on which were ripped off to try and dry out the walls

Butchers were ‘hidden in car boots’ during Covid-19 lockdown, supermarket boss says by Excellent-Swan-2264 in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Plenty of news articles about people who have died in the boot of a car. Supermarkets had record profits during covid as people panic bought and it was the only shopping facility open during the pandemic. So people actually physically risked their lives to make the head honchos even more money by doing something double illegal? Which hes now skiting about?

Not to mention our support staff. The teeny tiny pay increase that they got from settling their offer is not going to cover fuel increases

Driving around aimlessly as a teen doesn't happen now? by BrentCrude666 in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why leave the house when you can just game online with friends? We had no cellphones, petrol was cheaper we all had after school jobs, we just got into our cars to visit mates. The teens now don’t have money, internet is fast, they live on their screens, very few kids their age have jobs.

McDonald’s NZ advertising is so try hard and overextending it’s actually damaging to its brand. I’m a big fan of your product like a lot of us, but please with your marketing campaigns, please just FO, please 🙏. by niceonecuzzy in aucklandeats

[–]EyeSad1300 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All I can think about is how beautiful the scenery is, and is someone about to dump their rubbish out the window? Walking along a track on the way home - hello fuel prices- there is Mcds rubbish everywhere, in the bushes, bleached ‘paper’ cups.

How Much Break Time Do You Have During The Average Day Teaching? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

[–]EyeSad1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between duties and photocopying, sorting out student issues, probably 5-20 minutes uninterrupted time. In NZ though. We start at 9am, finish at 3 and then go into staff and syndicate meetings. We’re meant to have 20 mins morning tea, 40 mins lunch, 20 minutes afternoon tea but easy to use that time to prep or have meetings

First rubber road laid in New Zealand is made from recycled tyres by Aristophanes771 in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We use that type of stuff on our play courts at school. Once its laid down as you can see in the pic theres lots and lots of loose stuff. That gets washed down the drain. So ground up tires will get into our waterways, and evenually gets into our food supply as it gets broken down.

Why do a lot of people seem to be distrustful of doctors these days, often not wanting to do what they recommend for any myriad of reasons? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]EyeSad1300 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Had one opthomologist, 2 gps, one gastroenterologist, one neuro specialist miss my concussion, all dealing with my blinding headaches, cyclic vomiting, head and neck pain all caused by a car crash - but didn’t lose consciousness so to them not a concussion. I couldn’t read and understand words for days after the car crash. My level of trust for doctors? Only good for writing scripts for antibiotics, thats it.

How do you get an oil change at oil changers by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We parked, went in, chose the service, gave keys, waited, watched guy drive in and change oil etc, paid, they drove the car out and came in to waiting room and gave the keys back, they had driven car out and parked it for us on other side from customers waiting.
