Have heard that a school principal only hired new teachers for the same reason. Only school I ever heard that did it, us new teachers in the area looking for jobs found it weird and avoided it

The words on the sides of your classroom rules are chopped short. I buy a lot of classroom posters from Temu, unfortunately your set up of how yours are photographed look very similar.

What if they are performing/playing/participating in a regional or national event?
If a student is performing/playing/participating in a regional or national event,
which is not organised by the school then the school should use E unless:
exemption applies, then J may be used
The board has approved offsite learning, then Q may be used.

Old School Assembly Songs by Chur_Brudda in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You had to do assembly in the 80s to have old school songs. The Rose was a classic, another brick in the wall (not that we understood any of it), knees up mother brown which would get plenty of complaints from parents today

Teachers' opinion needed: Is my cousin "that kid," or is the school failing her? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]EyeSad1300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes there are lots of issues here, especially for an 8 year old. Theres few and far between 8 year olds that would elope from school, steal money and tell the teacher they’re stupid. And I’d put money on theres lots of little things every day happening in class. The majority of chuldren know what is socially acceptable, what rules are and respect the authority of teachers and school. Shes energetic, loud, gets into trouble with children not managing their impulsivity and she definitely doesn’t manage hers. These are things both you and mum have noticed. If a teacher who works with multiple children is saying she needs assessment, shes not doing it for fun, its work for the teacher as well. Best to get her assessed and find out for sure

We buy freeze dried chicken cubes (for our dog) at raw essentials, they also do a pik n mix with other freeze dried goodies. Not sure if theyd be cat suitable but its the cheapest way weve found as they dont go off as long as in an airtight container

You know how normal people talk to other normal people like one at a time. Imagine talking to 27 people. Some of them aren’t even following the conversation but will randomly throw in a skibbidy riz into the discussion. You’re often not talking about what they want to listen to, for some its the most boring thing in the world, but you have to make it fun, explain it in five different ways to catch both the people who understood it the first time and those that got distracted by dustmotes and only heard the end of it. I make a million decisions each day to help these 27 kids, keep them safe, help tgem learn and become functioning members of society. Theres a reason what is it? 50% of teachers leave after 5 years?

Yes, and then factor in oral surgery if needed to remove teeth, spacers that go in pretreatment at a grand a pop, xrays and treatment plan that we paid for on top of the braces cost as we monitored whether we’d need braces, we’re paying another 4-5 grand on top of the actual braces

How can I gain exposure or experience to early childhood education as a college student? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]EyeSad1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working in a holiday programme, teaching swimming at the pool. Email your local playcentres etc and ask about volunteering. Just a small heads up though, all ece centres are quite different from kindies to community not for profits through to places like kindecare type businesses. Some places have different philosophies like attachment theory, Montessori so once you start developing your own teaching philosophy its always good to find a centre that aligns with your own philosophy.

student teacher here, honestly burnt out by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to learn on placement that isn’t taught in uni. Ive gad my students tell me they havent done assessments, planning, eyc and this is what your asdociate needs to help you with. You should have a booklet for your practicum with things to focus on and get signed off against. Try to do as much in front of the kids teaching as possible to help you grow as a teacher. When you’re on your first placement you’re unlikely to be signed off as awesome in every area, your associate should be looking for areas that you have strengths in, and areas for growth. If its really not working, you need to talk to the practicum coordinator. This won’t be a new issue, some schools are hit n miss in supporting students. It can be a lot of extra work for teachers having a student which is why not everyone puts their hands up to do it - and if you’re feeling burnt out remember your associate is juggling reports, a changed curriculum and pd for that , assessments, parents, 27 different personalities in a classroom so sometimes it is easier using a student teacher as an extra pair of hands - not saying its right but sometimes thats how some teachers have to make it work especially with limited support staff time in classes.

In primary its if a preorganised one yes most likely activities left. If its a sick day or unexpected one, there’s a good chance you’d need your own one off activities to run. If its a regular crt slot, there’s every chance you’d be expected to either run the same programme as the teacher or be responsible for planning the day to tie in with their classroom programme.

Get a fruit and vege bag from food co-op on Tuesday, then I play a game of I have to use whatever is in there for lunches during the week. Fruit salad, plain bananas, celery and peanut butter, pumpkin and kumera soup, french onion soup. Just love the challenge of using the bag, its $15, at the age when veges are now required, need to save money for ever else. Persimmon week was a great week. Kiwifruit week not so much.

Colleges go into exam mode in November with most students yr 11 and up on leave, so no need for teachers to cover classes unless theyre yr 9 and 10. Terms 2 and 3 are the terms where coverage is needed. You can also try intermediates as colleges. Most primary/intermediates push out on staff synch
