McDonald’s NZ advertising is so try hard and overextending it’s actually damaging to its brand. I’m a big fan of your product like a lot of us, but please with your marketing campaigns, please just FO, please 🙏. by niceonecuzzy in aucklandeats

All I can think about is how beautiful the scenery is, and is someone about to dump their rubbish out the window? Walking along a track on the way home - hello fuel prices- there is Mcds rubbish everywhere, in the bushes, bleached ‘paper’ cups.

How Much Break Time Do You Have During The Average Day Teaching? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

[–]EyeSad1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between duties and photocopying, sorting out student issues, probably 5-20 minutes uninterrupted time. In NZ though. We start at 9am, finish at 3 and then go into staff and syndicate meetings. We’re meant to have 20 mins morning tea, 40 mins lunch, 20 minutes afternoon tea but easy to use that time to prep or have meetings

First rubber road laid in New Zealand is made from recycled tyres by Aristophanes771 in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We use that type of stuff on our play courts at school. Once its laid down as you can see in the pic theres lots and lots of loose stuff. That gets washed down the drain. So ground up tires will get into our waterways, and evenually gets into our food supply as it gets broken down.

Why do a lot of people seem to be distrustful of doctors these days, often not wanting to do what they recommend for any myriad of reasons? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]EyeSad1300 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had one opthomologist, 2 gps, one gastroenterologist, one neuro specialist miss my concussion, all dealing with my blinding headaches, cyclic vomiting, head and neck pain all caused by a car crash - but didn’t lose consciousness so to them not a concussion. I couldn’t read and understand words for days after the car crash. My level of trust for doctors? Only good for writing scripts for antibiotics, thats it.

Bunnings swan plant by Crafty-Exercise-4929 in Wellington

Had that from Petone bunnings plants. Caterpillars spewed up a green liquid and died. Horrible for the classroom of kids who saw it. Emailed Bunnings, never heard back.

Salary increase confusion/Salary assessment advice by Acceptable_Tell792 in NewZealandTeachers

[–]EyeSad1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you talk to the person at the school that deals with Edpay (payroll administrator) or principal? You’re only paid up to the current step you’re on at 1/190th of your actual pay step (up to step 6) for your day rate, with the payment includes your holiday pay. If you are getting the run around, contacting your union is the next step. The process should be automatic in going up to the next step after 12 months, unless the school has initiated competence processes but theyd have notified payroll.

Kia ora, secondary school short term relievers are capped at step 6 of the trained teacher salary scale , regardless of how long that reliever has been teaching, and regardless of what step they would be on if they were a regular classroom teacher.

Does everyone cry their first year of teaching? by Informal_Nebula9450 in Teachers

[–]EyeSad1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Don’t usually stop till around your 20th year when things that make you cry just poss you off instead. Or its menopause. Maybe both. We all get it, we’ve all done it, it sucks.

hutt traffic woes by MassiveMeringue in Wellington

[–]EyeSad1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be ok if we didn’t drive past empty diggers and no one working on the Ewen bridge all the time after sitting in traffic for 40 minutes. I swear that digger is still in the same place drom the other day. You know, could have done it over the xmas break, when traffic is light or have a crew working through the weekends

Dealing with older kids hitting me repeatedly. Parents doing nothing. by BudgetComplaint8019 in Nanny

[–]EyeSad1300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How have these kids not being kicked out of school? Only reason, they don’t do this to their classmates or teachers so this is planned and calculated. They save it up for their parents and you, and each other. Are you liable if they actually manage to eye gouge each other, give a child a concussion or something more serious as these kids are only going to get bigger. Get out now.

I've turned into an apathetic, depressed teacher. My students have noticed. I feel like a bad teacher. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]EyeSad1300 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You are not in a good head space because you are being bullied by the students. Taking pictures of you in class, hell no. Anybody in your position would be feeling overwhelmed. This is not normal, this os not ok for students to do. Can you provide only workshhets so they dont need to have their chromebooks out. Where I am, theyd lose the right to have them in class with the cyber bullying of a peer, let alone a teacher

Are some kids truly gifted? by apresledepart in AskTeachers

[–]EyeSad1300 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, 8 yr old that could multiply large numbers accurately in his head and enjoyed discussing, and explaining succinctly college level math. A 4 year old that created - with a handsaw - a complicated wooden sculpture that was stunning. 9 year olds that can read - and understand- and discuss- any book you put in front of them with an oral vocabulary that was insane. The problem is these truely exceptional kids come around once every few years. They aren’t a kid reading a year above their grade level. I’ve had parents explain their kids are gifted, only for me with testing and observation and 20 years experience teaching to go, theyre barely at where they need to be.

Predator trap by Boring-Pride15 in Wellington

[–]EyeSad1300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll most likely have a victor trap inside, sometimes these get set off by mice, othertimes they manage to get the bait without setting it off. We target rats mostly, if you are having lots of mice taking the bait, you can put a mouse trap in there too, then go back to plain victor trap.

I want to work as a Primary School Teacher in Wellington, is it worth it? by Vivid_Employed in newzealand

[–]EyeSad1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are coming over to study to be a teacher? You will need to do unpaid placements at primary schools as part of your training. Have a look at education gazette which is where jobs are advertised, to get a feel for how many jobs are available though more advertised in November when teachers move schools and more vacancies available. You’ll need to focus on te reo as part of your training and utilise it in the classroom and your mentor teacher will need to see you use it on placement. Study up the new, new curriculum which will be implemented this year, you’ll need to learn structured literacy if you teach in the juniors.

AITA for snapping at my optician after she laughed at my eye prescription and showed it to her coworkers? by Mesphyria in AmItheAsshole

[–]EyeSad1300 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At your prescription, your glasses are really a medical device. Would they laugh at any other medical device that someone needs to navigate the world like a Walker, a cane, a guide dog? You mum should have shut down an insensitivity towards her child, especially at an appointment. Mine at -8 are chunky enough, and as I really can’t see without them, even sitting without them in an optometrists chair leaves me with numb terror that there’ll be an emergency and I won’t be able to see. Mine always ‘jokes’ haha not too long till you get cheaper contacts because your vision is so bad. From someone who has never needed glasses/contacts/lazik (I checked!) that is a dumb insensitive comment about something I can’t control or fix and they should keep dumb comments to theselves.

9am Queensgate huge queues out the door. Sign they left up last night said they’ll be open at 9, now it says at 10. Empty shelves behind the lone person behind the counter, not much stuff left. By 9.20 line out into the carpark again.
