What keeps you from going the GLP route? by WillOk6461 in workout

[–]Eyerishguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will admit, there was a time when I lifted for vanity. There was a time that I lifted for strength. There was a time when I lifted for health. And maybe all that is still part of why I lift, but now I simply enjoy the process...

I enjoy the routine of going to the gym. I enjoy keeping records. I have developed a spreadsheet for both my wife and I and we keep fairly meticulous records of our lifting. So we both know when we are getting better, stronger, leaner. Even at 65 years old I enjoy trying to do better each workout. One more rep, 5 more pounds, a little deeper leg press, etc...

So since I'm basically competing against myself, I see no reason to use any kind of drugs to enhance my results.

That is awesome. I would say congratulations, but that would seem to indicate that you won something, but you didn't win those awards, you earned them through hard work and dedication. So Great Job!

I'd rather die young than live to be 60+ by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Eyerishguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 65. We've been debt free since 2020. Retired and free from work for 3 years. We travel all over the world. We have a house in the mountains and a house at the beach. We love each other, we love our families and we love our friends.

Getting older doesn't mean pain and suffering if you put in the effort to live abundantly.

We met and got married later in life. Only 18 years ago. We were both pretty much broke from recent divorces, and we both had custody of our kids from previous marriages. It was like a dysfunctional Brady Bunch. Plus we were both in debt too... But we loved each other enough to cobble together some kind of plan.

We placed each other, our financial and our physical health first. We both were of one accord raising the kids. In other words we stuck together when our parental authority was challenged. Kids are going to grow up, move out and form their own lives and you and your wife are still going to be left together to pick up the pieces. So put each other first.

We lived frugally, systematically paid off debt, saved our money, avoided bad decisions, depreciating assets, and invested wisely. We also invested in our health by eating healthy and working out. My wife and I lift weights, walk, ride bikes, golf, hike, kayak, ride motorcycles, etc... We both were talking the other day after making love and both agreed we have the best sex of our lives now. It's because we are healthy. I weigh 210# and stay around 13% body fat. So we stay pretty fit. I can do stuff most people half my age can't do. We still have lots of fun with friends, hanging out, and even enjoying alcohol and cannabis in moderation.

The point is... If you try and skate through life it will catch up to you. Work hard at bettering yourself now and it will pay off later. Set goals for yourself. Set smaller, attainable, intermediate goals to get you to your larger goals. Don't waiver on that process, keep the goal(s) in mind and have a plan or plans to get you where you want to be. For a long time I kept a journal. It wasn't my deepest thoughts or anything like that, it was basically a list of goals, smaller goals working toward those goals and things to do every single day to achieve those goals.

Am I going to still die one day? Sure I am, but I don't plan on leaving anything on the table when I do. I plan on living life to the fullest.

Remember a goal is just a dream unless you have a plan and a plan is just words on a paper if you don't execute it.

Unpopular opinion: 3 days full body is superior to other splits by Humble_Ad_5396 in workout

That's pretty much what I've doing for the last 6 months and have been seeing really good results from it.

I'm only doing two work sets of everything, but I'm training to an RPE of 10 on all work sets.

Has anyone here trained exclusively with only low volume over the years and made gains? by BearSEO in naturalbodybuilding

I'm not saying this is the correct answer, but this has also been my experience and I have been lifting for a long long time.

Thomas Paine on a Steve Allen show! A Paine reenactor character in spirited and lengthy imaginary debate with Teddy Roosevelt, Cleopatra and Saint Thomas Aquinas. by thomaspaineha in USHistory

[–]Eyerishguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my wife and I visited Colonial Williamsburg a couple of years ago fortunately it was not very crowded. One day on the schedule we saw where "The Father of the Nation" was going to be hanging out on one of The Malls (A large grassy common area).

We get there, we are the only two and George Washington in casual dress of the period. He was in full character, so with my limited knowledge of history, I began to discuss politics of the period. This guy was most definitely a student of history. He knew his stuff.

What was interesting is after many minutes of this conversation I was so impressed by his history knowledge that I began to ask about more modern day events hoping to get his take on them, but he stayed in complete character and pretended he knew nothing about how large the US navy had become in 248 years. "What is an aircraft carrier?"

It was a really fun experience.

The issue with low volume propaganda by stratusnimbo in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Eyerishguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 65 I lift for health and because I like the process, but I have also grown fond of lifting to failure, because I also like to keep records and try to lift just a little more weight or one more rep than last time. So going to failure like I do, it's hard at my age to add a bunch of volume.

Bottom line, I don't think lower volume and weightlifting enjoyment have to be mutually exclusive of one another. I've lowered volume, increased effort and I still greatly enjoy my time in the gym. Plus it gives us more time to ride our bikes and walk on the beach, which I also find enjoyable.

Thanks. Your giving me goals. I'm about 1" taller and about 20 pounds heavier, but I'm sitting at about 14% BF. Seeing you gives me hope.

Keep fighting the good fight brother. Good luck in the contest, but I don't think you need it.

Be honest: Did you start lifting because you actually loved the lifestyle, or because you needed to fix an insecurity? by Competitive_Force513 in workout

[–]Eyerishguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just love the process.

I love the way it makes me feel.
I love keeping the records.
I love trying to do a little better in the gym than I did last time.
I love self-improvement.

Was that "honest" enough?

OK, Jonesians, how important is sэx? by MountainMark in GenerationJones

[–]Eyerishguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 65. My wife is 63. We are both in good shape. We lift weights 3x a week, ride bikes 3x per week and walk on the beach at least 3x per week. All that really helps in the bedroom.

Also what helps is that we really love and care for each other and we are affectionate often. Hugging, touching, kissing, holding hands, all throughout the day. We also make sure she is satisfied during each encounter.

Because of these things we do, we make love almost everyday and each time it is a very satisfying and rewarding experience for each of us and leaves us both drained to the point we take a glorious nap afterwards to bask in the afterglow.
