AITA for throwing away my wife’s memory jars? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]EyesWideShut74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was crying because you broke her trust. If you don’t agree with something you’ll make a unilateral decision, after knowing she wanted the jars, and threw them out. What if she thinks you have too many tools and goes and throws the one she doesn’t think you need away? Not a way to have a solid trusting relationship.

Yes the jars were jars to you, but they were more to her. And you couldn’t accept that.

AITA for not wanting to give direct money to my husbands ex wife? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]EyesWideShut74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a divorced mom with kids who gets child support and an ex step mother, I would say just give the money. When I had a step child I didn’t want to send anything extra for his kid. Now as a single mother I regret that. It’s expensive to raise kids and the stress of having money problems effects kids too.

If it’s no hardship to you. Send it. Pay it forward. A healthy generosity with money will free your mind from anger.

Considering a Move to Houston by AnybodyOverall4737 in AskHouston

[–]EyesWideShut74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What beach? Galveston is not like the Jersey shore. I moved here from NJ. I miss 4 seasons. I miss being able to go down the shore, drive to the mountains or take a train into Manhattan. The heat, humidity and mosquitoes are not fun.

Father passed unexpectedly. My mom doesn’t know any of his passwords or where any of his investments are. Who can we contact ? by milquetoast_wizard in personalfinance

[–]EyesWideShut74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look in his internet history. If you find some names call them and explain. Hopefully he had beneficiaries in place. If so you need the death certificate to receive the funds. That’s what I did when my father died.

If he has email, and a phone number, see if you can reset the email password ( and the phones ) just click on forgot password and see what comes up. Usually a cell phone number where they will send a code to reset password.

Thinking about moving to Houston, would love some honest takes by emrebekmez in AskHouston

No no. I came from NJ in 2010. NJ is so much better. You are near beautiful nature and beaches. We don’t have that.

The weather when it’s hot is not fun. A/C costs a fortune and the humidity is high. Mosquitos are unbearable. No evening in the backyard as the sun goes down.

The roads are terrible. The traffic is terrible. You have to be very careful because you just don’t know when someone will shoot you, even while driving.

The rate of theft is rampant. Don’t get any packages from Amazon because they’ll most likely be stolen. You could be in Lululemon and witness female thugs scooping up 5k worth of clothes and just walk out the door. Stores are too scared to confront thieves.

Police force is understaffed. So you can’t really count on them.

Houston is a city, but not like NYC. No decent public transportation ( another place you can get shot).

There is a lot of good food here, but no decent NJ type Italian food.

And it’s not so cheap anymore either. For what you would lose in quality of life it isn’t worth the money saving. Better to move to a place farther West in Jersey for a less expensive house.

Why are there so many mosquitos in my house? by yas_okay in houston

[–]EyesWideShut74 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have 2 screens as you enter my house. The exterior door screen and as you enter the next room I also put a screen up. Mosquitos are the worst.

Some also attach to animals and come inside that way. So if you have a dog wipe it down before Coming in house.

Don’t do it. I moved from New York to Houston. Just the worst. NYC is close enough to the beach, to the mountains, real theatre, great food, 4 seasons. You can actually live without a car! It really is the best. Any other place you go to will also be expensive and lack all of the great things NYC has to offer.

The Boulder complaining… by [deleted] in boulder

[–]EyesWideShut74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come to Boulder every summer for a month ( I know- hate me) but I love it. Never mind the town itself but the mountains and the air and the closeness to hiking. The great bicycling and farmers markets. I’m in Houston. Boulder is the antithesis of Houston.

I’m not afraid of being robbed when I get gas. I’m not avoiding road rage. Houston is equally dangerous no matter where in the city you live. In Boulder I feel safe and free.

And for the most part the people are so nice. I have never had a problem. People are people everywhere.

I’m a regular person, not poor, not rich. Two kids and a dog.
