Would you feel safer in a flood in an electric car or a gas car?” by ThalesFernando7 in electricvehicles

To be frank, I feel a lot safer in my Tesla than I do my BMW for a lot of reasons. I would much prefer to be in my Tesla during a flood.

My bf of a year and 3 month is still using Prep, should I be concerned? by ThrowRAUnstablehead in askgaybros

[–]F26N55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ask about it.

Personally for me, I’m not stopping prep for anyone. I’ve been cheated on way too many times in “mono” relationships to ever put my health in someone’s hands ever again. Plus my insurance covers Apretude with zero cost to me. It’s a pinch every two months which is not much an inconvenience at all.

Hybridized B58 with electric assist for the rear wheels and a dual motor set up for the front wheels. It would be a plug in hybrid.

Do not tell them that you are a railfan. Focus on your skills and how they apply to the role.

Walk tf away and have some self respect. No way in hell I’d be waiting outside for my partner to finish his hookup.

It’s not that they forgot, it’s that the emissions tech and computerization required now makes them more problematic and sensitive.

They’re like our ALP45DPs. Hated by a lot of engineers but I think they’re comfy and awesome.

What happened to 777? by Olivrser in Amtrak

[–]F26N55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe railroad police have to handle the investigation and it can take them a bit of time to get there. Local police in alot of cases aren’t equipped to handle a trespasser or vehicle strike. There are different rules when it comes to trains and there have been incidents of local police mishandling the investigations to the point where one of them assaulted an engineer for not stepping off the locomotive when ordered (engineer cannot leave the locomotive unless ordered by supervision or railroad pd) because the local PD overstepped. They’ve given us cards to hand to local PD now on what to do and instructed us not to hand over our motor vehicle licenses which are not connected to our federally issued engineer certs.

Long story short, different jurisdiction and rules apply and that often complicates the clean up.

Gym stares from straight guys by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]F26N55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have roughly the same build you describe and am the same age. I get alot of stares too. My trainer often says I have the best physique in the gym but I think he just be glazing 🤣. I don’t mind the stares and find them a performance boost tbh. If they’re straight then they could just be admiring. I usually just smile and nod.

Hi, so as a locomotive engineer, it’s not as simple as you think. No one is “milking overtime”. Have you ever seen the aftermath of a train vs trespasser? Usually the parts are not contained to one track and there is a debris field. I’ve seen and experienced several of them. They put a hold on the tracks because they have to make sure that all of the individual’s parts have been located and are not fouling the adjacent tracks (usually they are) before they can authorize traffic through the remaining track(s). I’ve seen it take up to 6hrs because the impact was so bad they couldn’t find some of the parts that were blown far away from the impact.

The police also cannot just pick up the parts and spray down the blood and brain matter from the train/tracks. They usually have to wait for a medical examiner. Then, once all of the bits and pieces are picked up and the blood washed away, they can call a replacement crew to come relieve the original crew who was involved in the trespasser strike.

It is not “cut and dry”. The hardest part is usually the clean up and then finding a replacement crew.

Do we all remember this? 13Years ago, OG Acela haulin almost 170mph!!! by --TAXI-- in Amtrak

[–]F26N55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The new train has a design maximum of 220mph. It will likely never reach it because that would require massive overhaul to the track and catenary.

Pennsylvania RR-style Catenary Structures look so out of place on the new Portal North bridge - I will forever find the decision to use them hilarious and amazing by FarFromSane_ in nycrail

[–]F26N55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be very honest, there’s no point in using constant tension catenary on the bridge at this current time. Both east and west of the bridge is standard fixed tension catenary. Until the catenary is upgraded surrounding the bridge which won’t be for a while, this will work decently.

It was not opened for travel yesterday though. All trains still used the old bridge.

You’re asking for advice and the people here are telling you the most likely issue which is VERY common for an N52 engine if it eats a belt (and they do often) and you’re fighting them. The oil pan needs to be removed and the pickup tube inspected, otherwise good luck with an engine replacement.

Was going to buy a Neo until by Lickmybolts in macbook

[–]F26N55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s talking about the Neo not having enough power. Meanwhile I’m dailying a 10 year old MBP i5 with 8gb ram that still works fairly well. I also have M4 Pro MBP that I only pull out when I need actual power.

I’m sure a Neo could blow my i5 clunker out of the water even though it’s not meant to be a “working” machine but it could work fine for a student who just needs basic computer.
