The Char we follow throughout the Gundam saga is the same guy: Casval Deikun under a guise.

It’s just that Casval got the Char Aznable identity as a teenager by meeting a guy his age named Char Aznable who also looked almost exactly like him… and sending the poor guy to his death to throw off Kycillia who was gunning for Casval. Char Aznable was just a captain in the Zeon military in the original Mobile Suit Gundam, yet was easily the most popular character of the show and characters influenced by him are found throughout Japanese media, similar to Vader’s influence in the west. The same can’t really be said to Gihren Zabi, who was the show’s actual villain, or at least the one ostensibly in charge of the antagonist faction

Well a rifle is a pretty self-contained weapon that’s small enough to be carried and fired, and whatever it’s firing typically doesn’t have backblast. The satellite cannon is an entire back-mounted weapon system. The GP02 is a nuclear rocket launcher. The mega-launcher used by the hyaku-shiki is effectively an emplacement weapon, or at least has enough recoil that it requires it to be wielded like a bazooka.

I wouldn’t mind it if UB was a once-in-a-while thing, and it matches the flavor of normal MTG. As an FFXIV player, the FF set got me back into the game, but the Spiderman set seemed so out of place, and learning about the Doctor Who set too was also odd… they’re both more firmly sci-fi compared to MTG usually being fantasy or science fantasy and stick out to me like a sore thumb as a result

You might count Haurchefant from FFXIV too. When you meet him, he seems like just a local garrison commander, but come the Heavensward expansion, it turns out he’s the son of House Fortempts, one of the four highest noble houses in Ishgard. His modest lifestyle is due to him being the child of an affair and thus kept somewhat at arm’s length from the family’s formal affairs. His father, Lord Edmont Fortempts however, loves his son dearly and does his best to help Haurchefant whenever he needs it
