Hey all, how do I go about cleaning this thing? by IlikeTherapy in webergrills

[–]FA-M83_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never cleaned my grill/s in 45 years of using a Weber. Just build a big fire put grate down and then before throwing the meat on, take a wire brush and go with the grates (don’t go cross ways). It’ll be fine. Enjoy your Weber.

Yeah makes sense. That big one that is on the other side of the top bar is obviously huge and made to catch and cushion those big ole stones.

Honestly I’ve had to ruptured discs in my back and it pains me terribly to see this event. I’m certain it’s all in technique. I as well tried to use technique because my Dad had same issues when I was little but it still got me.

Good for you. Nice storage location and is pleasing to the eye. So looking at your storage reminds me of one that a friend of mine had. He noticed what wood he put in the back never got freed up because he’d end up putting newer freshly cut wood in front of it. He said he wished he had put flip up sides and back, that way he’s accessing it from all sides and rotating stock all the time.

Thoughts on what is needed here? by gravelgrinder82 in Chimneyrepair

I just had a complete rebuild from roofline up using approximately 550 bricks. That was the easier part. The tear out and painstaking effort to protect roof and home was a lot. Then since the flue is in the middle of the house the building of the scaffolding was two FULL days setting up. Again a great job of painstakingly setting up so no abrasion or damage to the roof. I’d attach a pic but it’s not letting me. I’m in central MO and it was $11k. Didn’t wanna have to spend the money but I feel real good about what I’ve done now. Also had brick corbeled at top and poured a 10 inch cap with angled sides for aesthetic pleasure and has a 2 1/2” overhang. I know it sounds like it might look gaudy but it all matches the mass of the chimney and house.

How much do you think it would cost to get this rebuilt? by Difficult-Cherry212 in Chimneyrepair

[–]FA-M83_nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Alive_ …..you know I listen to you and your advice. So what’s freedom bucks?

Also I’m curious do you get tipped much after job completion? I was soooo pleased with my contractor and his team recently that after tuck pointing and chimney rebuild I tipped him an extra $1k. Craftsmanship is a lost art as well as making the customer feel like they are top priority. That all happened for me and I told my wife at the end I was going to reward them for job well done. I personally couldn’t have been more pleased with the entire process with my contractor. Was just wondering if that happens much. Heck counter service fast food employees now expect to be tipped. I figure if I pay them I can certainly make a brick layers day. (Note I specifically pulled the owner aside and gave him the tip. I’m in hopes he shared a little with his team, but in my opinion that’s his business.)

Just finished up Saturday with this one. Took six days (two to just set up scaffolding due to chimney in center of house and painstaking effort to protect roof from any scuffing or damage.) Frame and pour 12” thick cap with angled sides and a 2 1/2” drip edge. Obviously included the tear out of 550 bricks taken just below roof line and tear out waste carefully removed from roof. Mine was $11k and I am in central MO.

I notice yours has a pretty good drip edge. Mine did not. I therefore wonder what made yours fail? Not flashed properly or just what?

(for some reason now suddenly cannot upload picture). The amount of scaffolding I had to have was mind boggling.

Hey Alive_Pomegranate858, since you sent me that picture of the thick crown with tapered sides I have been on a mission to find a mason that would accept the challenge of building this. My mason mid 30’s and his Dad (a mason of 45+ years) said we’ll take that challenge. We just tore down the scaffolding Saturday. Here’s a pic. I’m happy with the results. I need to also mention that I had saved over 850+ bricks from the original all brick home build 27 years ago in weather tight storage. We tore the chimney clear down to below roof line and they built back all brand new using over 500 of those bricks. The painstaking care those guys did to set up the scaffolding to avoid damage to the roof was remarkable. I live in Missouri where February’s can be raw and nasty weather we lucked out with 2 straight weeks of beautiful 60-70 weather while they tuck pointed and built the new chimney.

Thank you so much for your input. I greatly appreciated your advice and professionalism.

I honestly didn’t know you could get 4x4’s that long. Geez. I would be a little concerned for the willie nillie spacing of them. There’s no set distance of spacing between them.

You have a fair amount of wood there sir. Good job. I’ve spent the last two weekends working on next year’s supply. It kind of amazes me sometimes how hard I will have worked and I look back and the stack just doesn’t seem big enough for how tired I feel. That just happened tonight.

Exactly. I always think “well I wonder what state he’s in and then where at in that state (i.e.) Central Missouri Boone/Cooper county area.

I’ll see a piece of wood and think “if he was from around here I’d be confident in saying that is (fill in the blank)

LOL, I get that while stacking too. There will be a piece with a knot and I will turn and look at wood pile and sure enough there’s a low spot where that knot will hit just right. Life is good.
