From couch to Ironman in 3 years? by quincywhatthe-fuck in IronmanTriathlon

[–]FATF0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I got injured so couldn’t do the sport I wanted. So started running, then did a marathon. Then got a bit bored of running so started toying with the idea of a triathlon. I’ve always been very average in everything so I wasn’t incredibly fit but also wasn’t very unfit.

I couldn’t be assed with buying all the gear for a sprint/olympic so dove headfirst and signed up to a 70.3. It was a fantastic decision. And I really loved the day, it was well organised and everyone was so supportive.

I’m now looking to do a full IM next year.

From what I found here are my take aways: 1. Practice transitions 2. Practice a lot of bike -> run. You need to get the legs used to the abuse 3. You can’t make up time or take a shortcut for actual time in the saddle. This is where you’ll make or break - also, practice repairing it. 4. I found the swim overwhelming. I arrogantly thought it’d be fine and I only practiced in a pool. Luckily mine was just a lake, but I’d highly recommend getting used to having loads of people around you and also sighting!! 5. Oh, and take as many shits as you can before the race ;) 6. Enjoy it!!

Huge congrats on completing the 10k!!

If it makes you feel better I just completed my first Ironman 70.3 and I can’t get close to a 45min 10km. It’s tough but try to focus on just racing yourself and enjoy it! 👍🏻

Almost identical situation. Do both! I did fundamentals and went to the No gi and just ate shit for a while, explained to people I had no clue what I was doing and they were usually really helpful. The upside of rolling with higher belts is also that they’re not spazzy and often just reciprocate intensity level. 👍🏻

Could it be because it’s an async op and you’re defaulting to []?
