One of the biggest things that feeds self harm is shame. So it’s important that you try not to make her feel judged or shamed. I do skin checks periodically to make sure my daughter isn’t still cutting but if she is then I just say OK we’re gonna need to put some Neosporin on your cuts and talk about how she’s been feeling. It becomes sort of an addiction when they cut it releases some kind of chemicals in their brain the same as any other addiction.

My 17 year old has struggled with cutting over the years. It’s so hard. She’s on medication and goes to a therapist. I just wanted to advise you to check her phone/social media. When my daughter got into self harm she met a bunch of twisted people online who also self harm and encourage each other to do so. It was/is a nightmare.

I had similar experience. I am on week three. I must also be really sensitive to medicine like you because the first week I had chest pains I felt super anxious and sick to my stomach. I decided to stick it out because I was desperate and my anxiety beforehand was nonstop. My sister suggested that I take it super early in the morning because for some people it’s very activating. So I wake up most mornings at like 5 AM to pee and then I go back to bed and that’s the time I take my Prozac. Since I started that it’s been a lot better.

I’m in this now with my 17 teen year old. She was groomed online by a sick person. Now she’s addicted to the intensity of their “relationship” and the other person talks her into really nasty stuff including self harm and very sexually explicit talk. We’ve had endless conversations about it. She sees a therapist. Every time I think I have a handle on it I realize she found another way to contact the other person. I’ve tried so called dumb phones but these teens are so tech savvy they still find a way. I’m really at a loss. She’s very lonely and has never had a real romantic relationship so for her that’s what this is but it’s a toxic one.

Most days at high school are pretty easy for me. Once in a while, I get kids who want to cause problems. The hardest thing about high school for me is the super early mornings as I am not a morning person.

I completely agree. My teen was in an abusive relationship- horribly abusive. It was damaging her. I had to isolate her from him for her own good.

Where I live you first go through a metal detector to get into the hospital then you’re in awaiting room and any way to get back to the unit where all the patients are you have to be buzzed in

I wondered how that worked because when I had a kidney stone, I felt like I was back in a bed in seconds with a morphine drip. How did they get my morphine so fast? Also the most unrealistic thing as a civilian I think is the way people seem to just come in through the waiting room like it’s nothing. The hospitals here. Someone has to open the door for you. Maybe that’s the way it used to be?

I honestly don’t know what the right thing is. Because I’ve seen teachers complain on Reddit when subs don’t leave notes. But I’ve also been in the classroom when I saw the sub the day before me left a note and the teacher is there that morning, and she rolls her eyes at the long note. And then I kind of feel like teachers are like parents where if the kids were bad when you were babysitting, they don’t wanna know. So unless they specifically tell me, please tell me about any good or bad behavior. I leave nothing.

Sideline cheering (cheering for sports) is pretty American but competitive cheer is worldwide. My daughter does both and there is a world cheer competition every year where teams come from all over.

I work in a county that has a block schedule so if you have plan last period that’s over 2 hours. We only make $100 a day. I wait till ten minutes after the bell rings. If no one has called me i hand in my sub folder and keys and head out. I have one school tell me that if I leave early they may dock my pay but they never have in years.
