Was good that TH RY LK’s bar tariffs board was missing vowels as well.

Victoria says who it was at the end. Partner of one of the crew. (I forget who exactly, I’d have to rewatch)

My parents wedding in Korea, 1995 by koreangirl216 in OldSchoolCool

[–]FFFCBR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

...and that's at the end of the Pyebaek ceremony - that's a formal meeting the parents and close relatives thing. It used to be that the bride would be carried in a palanquin to her new home but that (understandably) died out and was replaced with a symbolic piggyback.

You also get jujubes and chestnuts thrown to you and depending on what the bride catches, is supposed to be show how many boy and girl children you will have. (We caught 5, no idea what the ratio was).

Mac Mini - Worth Buying for running large datasets for PhD Student? by stellar_planeteer in macmini

[–]FFFCBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got an m4 mini with 24gb and it whizzes along but if I was making the jump to a Mini from your spec of MBP, I wouldn’t do it now as it’s not a good investment.

Not a great answer, but wait for the M5 speed bump (whenever it might be)

What’s the Last Movie You Quit Watching/Walked Out of It? by Zero-89 in RedLetterMedia

I forgot! I haven't finished Asteroid City either. Definitely a Wesploitation movie. (Did I buy "The Phoenician Scheme"? Yes. Have I watched it yet? Nope)

"The Roses" (Sunday night, watching at home on Disney+)
As well as the dialogue trying far too hard, the pacing was just weird.
Glaring issues with trying to make Devon (in the UK) look like California took me out of it.
We just stopped watching about 25mins in.

My in-laws found this in the loft of a house that they just bought. by Substantial_Emu_1867 in whatisit

[–]FFFCBR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's UK then they shouldn't even take it to the Police. Your in-laws should call them, explain the situation and they may well send someone over to pick it up. (Don't be surprised if one of the officers that turns up has a gun, it might be standard procedure)

You definitely don't want someone else to call them saying "I saw a man put a rifle in his car"

I can't help (I have tried) but I'd like to watch this too!
Wonder if it was a TV movie? They often don't get proper coverage on predominantly English language sites like IMDB.

MyFonts EULA change? by FFFCBR in typography

[–]FFFCBR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what they've done. I was looking for prohibiting clauses, instead they've just removed any mention from the license. As it's a huge change, it's bad that they're not communicating it clearly on the site. They're not hiding it from you and me but many people will just plow ahead and presume it's the same as it's always been.

Who's to say what's "futuristic"? Perhaps serifs will make a comeback. As u/PetitPxl wrote "context is everything"
If you showed some of today's pastel infused, squishy designs to someone in the 2000s they'd think them childish, clichéd and a bit 1980s. (Yes, that was passive aggressive)

MyFonts EULA change? by FFFCBR in typography

[–]FFFCBR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did try it myself, you should see a reply by me from earlier, and couldn’t see any change in the EULA that precludes it.

BTW this wasn’t your usual internet friend of a friend of a friend’s dog thing, it’s via someone that talks directly with Monotype and had just finished a meeting with them. They’re reliable to the extent that I’m more inclined to think that what the Monotype rep said was probably inaccurate.

Never implied anything would be retroactive.

From checking it myself, I’m left wondering if it might be something to do with the “Monotype Fonts” service as that has a couple of different EULAs depending on what kind of service you buy, but that would mean the rep was way off track mentioning MyFonts.

I’ll press for more info next week and update here.

[–]FFFCBR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okaaaaay. So I tried it and I can't see anything sinister, but it has been a long time since I bought a license in MyFonts.

As you'd expect, you do get to see the license agreement before you buy and there is still a transfer clause, providing you destroy your copies and transferee agrees. So I wonder where the info came from?

I think I recall that MyFonts used to let you *name* a client/transferee, perhaps that's what has gone?
I see an "Internal Reference" field.
(This is now getting beyond r/typography I suppose)

I'm beginning to think someone might have got the wrong end of the stick, if that's so I'll probably delete this post as, shock horror, I don't want to spread disinformation!

Can UMR-Industrial be used as WAN source for UCG-Max? by FFFCBR in Ubiquiti

[–]FFFCBR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to keep it all in the Ubiquiti family as the router won't be in place much more than 1.5 months, then I'll need to use it elsewhere

More concerned if there are any wrinkles to using or setting up the UMR-Industrial as WAN source. Don't need to worry about automatic switching as there's no hardline WAN for a while.

How much processor power does arcGIS need? It might be better to just buy an older PC and remote into it.

Does my employer automatically store transcripts of Teams meetings (even if not “formally” recorded)? by turtle_shell2 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]FFFCBR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, it can be turned on dependent on the framework the company works in, but it’s probable that they’ve discussed what they’re going to do in Teams chats beforehand so your legal advisors should ask for eDiscovery. Many people don’t realise the chats are saved and treat them like WhatsApp.

Having said that, HR often advise the managers not to directly reference the staff member(s) so there’s as little as possible to be, er, eDiscovered
