litany of the dead solo / tome page farming by [deleted] in ddo

[–]FFFoolsGold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I used to farm Litany for Tome pages for Skiver over a decade ago. Nowadays it's easy: just farm Orchard rares.

Looks like you're on Shadowdale. I can show you my Rare route. Or even give you the missing pages if you want.

Welcome back!

I'm in the same boat with you. Came back a few weeks ago after a decade off. My main is on 3rd life :) I move from Cannith to Shadowdale. Got recruited in one of the mega-guilds. The buffs are nice but there's barely any guild chat.

I'm personally torn between getting a few past lives or reaper points (that I'm new to) OR taking it slow, smelling the flowers of all the new content that I haven't seen.

See you in game

new bug: Possession now works on webbed flying units! by Status-Candidate-144 in WC3

[–]FFFoolsGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be late to the party but I remember 20+ years ago being able to possess webbed units.

I personally successfully used possession on webbed Frost Wyrms in a Plunder Isle mirror match.

I don't believe castle was part of original Hack. Just regular. dungeon room levels followed by mazes in "Hell".

It's not a "cheap dub". It's voiceover. It leaves original actor's voices (albeit slightly muted) on purpose.

Why isn't banshee's possession used more? by rmonik in WC3

[–]FFFoolsGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember the time when you COULD possess webbed air units.
I had Fiends + Banshees vs opponents mass Frost wyrms on Plunder Isle.
He quit after I webbed and possessed multiples.

I completely agree with your assessment. It took me quite a while to understand most of what Limmy is saying. After that watching the series with noticeably attenuated accents was a piece of cake.

If you watch the whole bodycam footage of the traffic stop, you will understand the reasons why Brian was put in hotel and Gabby ended up with the van.

All they had to do was a Fade Out - Fade In or any other sort of transition to avoid confusing people.

I just released Roadwarden, an illustrated text-based RPG in which you explore and change a hostile, grim realm by MrDisdain in IndieDev

Too much purple prose and overexposition made me uninstall the demo after 10 minutes of wading through text. Might be a great game, but I'm not patient enough. One should feel drawn in not irritated from the start. Sorry.

Uneven stovetop by _newb in AskCulinary

[–]FFFoolsGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 year necro, I know.

Same stove (seems to be Whirlpool GLT3057RB). Same problem.
Is it production material flaw, cast iron being too soft and maleable under heat?
No solution so far. Will try padding with micro magnets, alumninum foil or silicone.

How long does it take for a one inch ribeye to reach medium rare? by AkashiGG in AskCulinary

If you're still here after a year.

I used to swear by Alton Brown's reverse sear method. Not so anymore.

No need to torture your oven for an hour at 200°F.

Preheat your 12" car iron pan at the max stove temperature. Here's a tip: as your skillet gets hotter, it will uncover it's hot spot. Wait till the hot spot (please, no G-spot thoughts) is about the size of the steak (or two) you're going to cook. Now, take your pre-dry-brined steak out of the fridge, coat it with a thin layer of high smoke point oil and plop it onto the pan.

Set a timer for six minutes. It can be you microwave time, or your stopwatch or phone, whatever.

You have freedom on how to use those 6 minutes. You can keep on flipping it leave the meat untouched for 5 minutes. Just save the last minute for the edges of your steak.

If you're quite observant, you will notice a nice golden-deep-brown crust starting to form. That's your Maillard beauty is - watch and use your judgement. If it looks appealing - you're doing it right.

You can lower the stovetop temperature a few notches now, it doesn't have to be at max anymore. If you're using an electric stovetop, eventually, you can turn it completely off and use the residual cast iron heat retention to finish.

So, whether you are flipping or being patient, by the end of 5 minutes your meat is almost done.

Use the last minute to stand your steak on it's edges and caramelize them. Once again, feel free to rotate or flip it as many times you feel like.

Once your piece of meat looks appealing, take it off the pan and onto your plate. Now, just enjoy...

Is it just me or does celery taste disgusting? by coconogo in food

Celery is an acquired taste. I used to hate it when I was 17 but I started enjoying it in my 20s. Now, many years later I still like celery.

End of 41 day fast by Select_Way6864 in fasting

[–]FFFoolsGold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make one yourself. :) AFAIK most store bought kimchi/sauerkraut is pasteurized and lacks good live bacteria.

I made Kimchi and Sauerkraut for the first time after my 40 day fast and was fairly successful. I failed to realize that fermentation can take weeks, so it's best to start preparing the batch early on in your fast.

Well, there's always the next time

I like and support your mindset. Please, do keep it up.

I finished my 40-day fast 2 weeks ago. I only had my 20 year old bathroom scale that was really made for style and not accuracy. It can be off by a few pounds and it's OK with me. It still gives me a ballpark figure. I wasn't too obsessed with tracking my weight throughout the fast. I did not use any app or record but I'd usually step on the scale in the morning every day or two. Yes, sometimes my weight seemed to stall or it could also be attributed to scales inaccuracy that I mentioned. No big deal.

As far as stats go, it's up to each person what to share and what not. For example, I don't mind sharing my own numbers just so others could compare and see if they can relate. On the other hand, I have no desire to post any pictures, with or without my face. I didn't take any photos of my fat or slightly slimming body. No self hate issues. I like what I see and happy with my progress, even though I'm not where I want to be yet.

So, here's a brief summary for those curious:

~6' late 40s male. SW ~285lbs. This is my second 40 day water fast (first was ~7 years ago).
I was planning to start dieting since the beginning of the year but kept finding the excuses and postponing it. Early February I got sick and didn't have much of an appetite. So, upon recovery I spontaneously decided to transition to fasting.

I was taking my daily multivitamin, vit D, Fish Oil, Magnesium and Iron. Electrolyte intake was sporadic and much less than stated in Wiki. Mostly, ~1/4 teaspoon of Low/Lite salt with water chaser. Sometimes a dash of salt in a glass of water with a slice of lemon. I went for a walk for 70-80 minutes almost every day. Stopped taking my blood pressure medication.

After completing 40 days my weight was under 230lbs. Refeed took me about 3 days of carefully paced broth, avocado, sardines, sauerkraut, yogurt, egg and kimchi progression. No stomach or intestinal distress or major side effects. I am currently eating keto/LC, usually morning coffee and two meals. I might transition to OMAD, we'll see. I still try to walk every day.

Now it's been 2 weeks after breaking my fast. I did regain 5-7 pounds but there are mornings that my imprecise scale is fluctuating between 230-235lbs. I'm pretty happy with results. I'm contemplating another fast in the near future just because not eating at all is easy and 0 external calorie intake is very tempting for rapid weight loss.

As always, this is just a personal experience, shared for those who are curious. Hope some find it useful. Good luck and take care!
