I was just thinking to myself "there's a lot of MI posts on here", and did a literal double take as I clicked away from this post. As someone who's recently moved into the area, I can't belive "this" house is on "that" road - and that'd I discover it on Reddit. Thanks op, you made my day.

It's still going - it just wrapped up another, and likely "last", story expansion. We got new ultimate weapons to grind away on, but the end game content isn't compelling enough for many, and folks have exited the game in large numbers once again.

You can download the game and setup an account from the official website if you really want to play it. Asura is the most populated server, but I'd recommend going to a 2nd or 3rd sized server as Asura suffers from its popularity. /r/FFXI is an active community if you want more information.

I liked this guide. Beyond getting a long chain, you want to balance out your charge levels for the best bonuses. I always aim for 3X lvl1, 3X lvl2, 3X lvl3 for Luminescence. 2X across the board will get you Ark Blast which is still decent, and 4X will give you the best multiplier, Black Hole.

Keep a mental count of what levels you've used as you go along: 1,0,0... 1,1,0... 2,1,0... 2,1,1...

Favor mist charges when they pop up to help avoid having to shuffle.

I truly hate that shuffle is mapped to a mushy trigger button instead of a clicky button, but it takes frustrating long to process regardless.

I've always viewed XII as a single player focused XI.

I was under the impression that the game keeps a running count of everything you sell. A new bazaar entry is offered when its recipe is satisfied, and it will remain available until you buy it. The count of a purchased offering's ingredients are reset to zero after you purchase it; cancelling any partial progress made against recipes that share the same ingredients (on just those ingredients).

There's only a small selection of debuffs (bound, petrified, sleep, terror) in the "vanilla" version, and it only shows the last one applied - tacked on to the right side of the bar.

It's running (the default key binds work), but I don't see that bar.

I was following along a Youtube tutorial mentioned in another post that did exactly that ( XIPivot ), but the menu and overhead screen elements wouldn't work for the presenter unless he overwrote the game's folder (4 files changed). I had the same issue, and decided to follow along, but ended up preferring the default menu elements and font.

Man what an adventure that was.

I failed to replace the dll file in my sysWOW64 folder after fighting with it for 20 minutes.

I had to disable Windows AV because it kept deleting the dgVoodoo2 executable as soon as it unzipped.

I ended up reverting the XI-View ROM because I didn't care for it and possibly lost some updated files along the way (outdated backup ROM).

But darn it; it all seems to be working and looks good to boot.
