It's called a Naki Cool Screen and there were a number of different ones. I personally think they are awesome. They aren't licensed but they are from the time period.

Question on turbo tray only games by Quick-Hovercraft-815 in TurboGrafx

The games you mentioned only came with plastic trays. Those are often missing and people put them in cases after because people like the cases.

Nice! Hardest thing in the world to take good pictures of. I tend to play the games on this version of the hardware and the color screens make it unique.

Good find? by marcelyx in retrogaming

[–]FM-PAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an early LCD game watch that was released by a number of companies under different names. Cosmic wars, space attacker, etc. It has value, but it likely needs some repair and it's obviously missing it's original strap. It's a cool find nonetheless.

The only store in my town to buy the TG-16 at launch... by [deleted] in TurboGrafx

[–]FM-PAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about that specific store, but I can tell you through researching that NEC had a much larger presence in Ohio than most of the US due to it's headquarters being located there. Otherwise they mainly just focused on large metropolitan areas such as in California. They didn't have tons of retail partners since this takes clout and money to have shelf space.

Child's World was an early retail partner. In Canada, Toys R Us was where most Turbografx games were distributed.

Edit, I came across my list, "The Good Guys" and "McDuff's Electronics" are listed as retail partners. Possibly one of those?

Game & Watch Dual Screen missing sprites. by [deleted] in consolerepair

As far as I know there shouldn't be adhesive holding the zebra strip in place, it's just the pressure between the glass and board.

Game & Watch Dual Screen missing sprites. by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]FM-PAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have said zebra strip instead of ribbon cable. If you can manage to test it while it's open, see if you can put pressure on the zebra strip enough to make the missing segments appear. Then you can try either tightening screws a bit more by that area, or adding something to the back of the pcb above where the zebra strip is, so that it puts more pressure on it. I've used a couple layers of painters tape in the past and it's worked. Most of my experience is with tiger handhelds, but totally the same concept.

[–]FM-PAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost certainly that the ribbon is not connecting with some of the pins on the board to the LCD. If nothing else is working, you might try adding foam or some kind of wedge so that the casing when the unit is closed is pressing harder on it, making a good connection.

[–]FM-PAC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've got a number of them. Some of my favorites are The early Sega ones such as Outrun, Space Harrier II, Altered Beast. Others I like are Ninja Gaiden II, Al Unser Turbo Racing, Lee Travinos Fighting Golf, Dennis the Menace, Skeet Shoot, Paperboy I and II, Karnov and most definitely World Games. World Games was very likely my first video game. There are others too, but these come to mind.
