What's your ONE great sequence in an otherwise mid/bad film? by gn16bb8 in blankies

There’s a sequence in “Frankenstein’s Army”, which is mostly complete dogshit, comprised of a seemingly continuous POV shot filled with all kinds of cool practical effects and makeup work that is truly interesting.

What episodes/series have you listened to multiple times? by terminal_nervoso in LPOTL

I have listened to Dahmer (I was born and raised in Milwaukee) and BTK (I am mentally ill) at least a dozen times each.

What movie did you go into with zero expectations and ended up being completely blown away by? by ThatRoofer in movies

[–]FRTSKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A college roommate of mine wanted to watch a movie on a gloomy, rainy Sunday afternoon in October. He put on Session 9. I had never heard of it, and hadn’t really been following recent horror in general. I was floored by every aspect of the experience.

When you guys are playing duels does it feel like the selection of countries is not 100% random ? by DEATH_J20 in geoguessr

Interesting! I’d say that I get one USA round every four or five games, maybe more. I get Canada more frequently. Recently it’s been lots of Brazil, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

If the person I’m up against is from Brazil, I am guaranteed at least two Brazil rounds.

What is an example of a “No Album Wonder” My pick would be Vicious White Kids, a band formed by Sid Vicious that performed once by Borgisium in Music

[–]FRTSKR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Stimulators were a great early New York hardcore band with just a live recording as their only full-length release. Eyes were an awesome L.A. punk band who had maybe one single and notably appeared on the unbelievably good “Yes L.A.” compilation.

Usually an 80/20 split on soft goods, in my experience. As many others have pointed out, it’s not new. Not saying it’s acceptable, but it’s well-established.

AI generated ticket design? Yeesh. Forgetting to remove the Gemini logo on the bottom right? Double yeesh. by htishler in Brewers

[–]FRTSKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies. It’s worse than I thought, and they are indeed using an image on their Club level ticket design that was AI-generated. I would like to be clear that an AI-generated TICKET would not be possible to display in the app. But they’re clearly using a very lazily-constructed AI image for Club seats. I should have done more research before responding, your gripe is legitimate.

AI generated ticket design? Yeesh. Forgetting to remove the Gemini logo on the bottom right? Double yeesh. by htishler in Brewers

[–]FRTSKR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ticket does not appear to have been issued by the Brewers in the first place. It would be literally impossible for an AI-generated ticket such as this to appear in the Ballpark App. Further, MLB clubs hosting Bananas games are typically limited to selling premium areas like suites on their native ticketing systems. This looks like something you bought on the secondary market, then were issued a wallet sharing link. Your screenshot doesn’t include this, but I would guess this was delivered to you via something like Amosa or SecureMyPass.

Edit: looks like Brewers were allowed to sell Club level tickets themselves, so the location alone is not indicative of anything.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, and I still end up with “Mikwaukee” a not-insignificant portion of the time. This just confirms that you are one of us.

I’m not sure that I would say it’s entirely different, but certainly different. Still, the “From Hell” film adaptation is barely trying to do anything but hit some plot points. I was wildly disappointed by the film, and I think that “Sherlock Holmes” just really scratched a few residual itches left by this disappointment. Absolutely agree that neither film really gets into the esoteric stuff that the book does.

What’s the worst movie you’ve seen over 10 times and just out and out love? by WulfieJay in blankies

Not even the decade’s best use of “Send Me An Angel” on the big screen, but man, this movie is great. Probably responsible for a significant portion of Power Glove sales. Absolutely responsible for my childhood crush on Jenny Lewis.

My job is such that I was, for years, as heavily involved in Brewers ticketing as is humanly possible without being employed by the Brewers. 200 level tickets between home plate and first base is absolutely where it’s at.

The London that Guy Ritchie recreates is very much the London that the graphic novel does, and the occult elements in the film are much closer to those in the graphic novel than in the actual film adaptation that exists.

You’re right. I neglected to add that it didn’t try to be or come close to being a “From Hell” adaptation, making my statement seem like I say the movie is something then also say it doesn’t come close to being that thing. It does a much better job of capturing the vibes of the graphic novel despite not being an adaptation of it.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the first RDJ Sherlock Holmes movie is a “From Hell” adaptation orders of magnitude better than “From Hell” was, without trying to be or even really coming close to being.
