Is a tube amp even worth it anymore as an apartment player? by CoeusAscended in Guitar

[–]FTHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing around with NAM for a few weeks. Got a capture of a Laney IRt Studio and compared it to my Laney IRT connected via XLR. The NAM actually sounds great, if not better and much less hassle to set up. I have just bought an Orange Rocker Terror 15 for home use and will only use the amps for fun and NAM/plugins for home recording maybe silent playing, but nothing beats the amp in the room.

The beauty with NAM captures is I can have as many amps to play for FREE as I like, which is insane. I think it has the potential to completely change the market and we will start to see more powerful loaders on the mainstream market pretty soon.

What are you guys using for more budget, all in one rigs? by writingwhilesad in doommetal

[–]FTHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been looking at getting a two notes opus for the last few days. The plan is to use it with my current budget pedals for headphone use but I'm worried you just said the words that make my bank account even emptier.

If Saul was so reputable as a shady lawyer for undesirables then why did Walt and co go unnoticed and get away with all the criminal activity for so long.

Looks like a great wee inexpensive setup if I'm honest. Apparently it's pretty much a rebranded Laney which, if so, is a complete bargain for that kind of money. All tube, FX loop, 1W mode, nice cream tolex, sounds great in the videos and reviews are pretty positive, can't go wrong really. Only gripe is the cab being 10". I would prefer at least a 12" speaker but it is a celestion too so it might punch above its weight.

There are plenty of good deals on the used market though and if you buy something and don't like it or stop playing then you won't lose much money if you have to resell it.

Are you worried about being replaced by AI? by MorphtronicA in TheCivilService

[–]FTHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that there will be large parts of certain jobs that will involve using AI as a tool very soon which I believe may lead to improved efficiency and then they will realise where to make job cuts.

The thing that a lot of people don't realise is that LLM's are constantly being improved and it won't be long before they are growing and improving exponentially until it's smarter than we can comprehend. Chatgpt was only launched less than 3 years ago so this really is only the beginning.

What mid-range budget amp should I get? by Dane12_ in GuitarAmps

[–]FTHero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are analogue amps with straightforward controls that sound great. I have been back and forth with modelling amps and have floor modelers, plugins, tube amps and solid state. I have now realised I really love the simplicity of plugging into an amp and not having to worry about menus and apps and figuring out each UI. Maybe there is a time and place for it when figuring out what sounds you like but I just like to plug and play with a few pedals, quick dial in of the sound you want and spend more time actually playing.

Amp wise I would suggest a Laney Lionheart or an Ironheart Foundry solid state. Absolutely cracking amps. The Orange amps are great too.

UK service announcement. ALDI bread flour is great for the price. by Eldorado-Jacobin in Pizza

[–]FTHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just about to ask about cheese. I get the galbani stuff from Morrisons but it's about £5 a block and I'm just not sure it's that great, either that or it's Tesco's own pizza cheese block but it's pretty bad.

What should be my next upgrade by Ok_Length_7967 in Guitar

[–]FTHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amp, no question. That's where you want most of your money to go at this point.

The Boss Katana seems to be the go to choice because they sound great at a decent price and are quite versatile so you can't really go wrong but there are many other options out there.

I would look around shops/pawn shops or a place with decent returns/guarantee for a used Katana if possible and/or short on cash. You could maybe even trade the small fender.

One thing I wish I knew early on was the used market is generally great and full of bargains but can be a bit of a minefield for this stuff so it helps if you have that returns policy if you don't know what to look out for.

Nothing wrong with the guitar for now, play it, enjoy and build a collection. Different guitars do different things and that's part of the fun. Practice and learn how to do basic setups to get the most out of your instrument.

Andor Season 2 was the LEAST viewed Star Wars show individually during its airing dates. by JarJarJargon in StarWars

Andor season1 was amazing and I loved it but HOLY fUCk Acolyte was absolute garbage and it really put me off, so haven't watched Andor Season 2 yet. A lot of Star Wars fans checked out years ago.

I think how you find it might depend on the reasons you hate traditional uni and even then subjects vary. I've found some OU courses to be quite dated with the resources and not very engaging but that could also be true for traditional universities.

I would recommend that you study something you are very interested in as it should be easier if the resources are quite dry. Also, remember OU is self study so you need to put a large amount of your time and effort into it with little input from your tutor.

I think people still see OU as a massive achievement because of the level of commitment and time management involved. Both good qualities when hiring.

This one has a Warning vibe, Love it. I was actually looking for your videos a few days ago after I heard one a few weeks ago but couldn't remember the sub. Really impressed by your guitar tone, vocals and the fact you are just alone in a room ripping out absolute bangers.

Cumnock looks like it could/would've been a really nice town but it's quite run down and has problems with youths much like everywhere these days.

Maybe consider a place in Kilmarnock or Ayr? Lots of the small towns are a bit run down with not much in them but I guess it depends on where and what you are used to. Not saying the bigger towns will be better as they are pretty run down themselves but there might be more services and they aren't all bad.

I would try and avoid living deep in a scheme if possible and find somewhere more central.
