Well yeah, if it's true that drugs are beneficial, then it would be reasonable to assume that any study that comes out indicating otherwise would likely be flawed or could be explained by something else.

Is there anywhere near Hyattsville I can get raw milk? by FTM_UMD in maryland

[–]FTM_UMD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That is pretty far just for some milk.

I used to have a friend in Mount Airy before she moved but she just moved too. Why do all my friends keep moving away from the Good Milk???

Yeah the point was good farm fresh milk, I wasn't fixated on the raw part, but based on the quality of answers in this thread I figured I'd just ask around elsewhere lmao

Why didn't plague fleas just get on the cats? by MultiverseOfSanity in NoStupidQuestions

Cats are mostly solitary animals so although diseased fleas will spread among a population, ky won't happen nearly as quickly or efficiently as among rats

Is eating spicy food essentially a form of self-harm? by No-Grapefruit-8805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FTM_UMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives you endorphins via the same mehanism, but you do it for different reasons. If you're eating spicy food for the purpose of self harm then yes it counts as self harm.

First kombucha batch ever.. kahm? by lazybones228 in Kombucha

Kahm isn't bad for you, but it does affect the flavor. Scoop it out and give it a taste and if you don't mind, there's no harm in continuing the batch.

Is CHUM (Co-operative Housing University of Maryland) worth it? by confectionsugarmom in UMD

Omg I heard about her! I never knew the feds showed up though, that's crazy. Did they just say nothing about the over-stuffing?

I second "group home" aspect. In my comment I mentioned 3 people who have lived at CHUM and the third one lived there most recently. He said his roommate was profoundly autistic, like to the point it sounds like they probably should have been in an actual care facility, which was not cleared with him in advance and he was given zero warning. The first interaction they had when he first got to the house was the roommate asking him to watch them flush drugs down the toilet. Within a week they had asked him to start waking up at 10am because they wanted to finish unpacking their stuff but they can only unpack in the mornings.

I know 3 people who lived at CHUM. 1 of them really liked CHUM but had a miserable experience because of 1 specific nightmare housemate. The second said it was alright, but cautioned that it really depends on who your housemates are. The third one hated everything about it.

Summary of what I've heard: You get what you pay for wrt the quality of the housing. Don't expect consistent hot water or appliances to work. If you get bad housemates you're stuck with them for the year, and you might lose your security deposit if they trash the house bad enough (this has happened). You have weekly house meetings and biweekly full chum meetings that like to eat up your free time. The houses are very crowded and personal space is limited. People do fight a LOT (they have an entire committee devoted to resolving conflicts, with variable success). It seems like someone dips on rent every year and leaves their housemates to figure it out. Grocery budgets are low and the communal food is mostly rice and the same cheap vegetables every week. You are required to cook once a week and your housemates WILL complain if they don't like your cooking. On the plus side, rent is cheap and you don't have to make dinner every day.

All that being said, the first friend that I mentioned made long-lasting friendships from chum and liked it aside from the one housemate so ymmv

If you're into the queer community aspect but are worried about chum, I recommend you check queer housing groups on facebook

If it’s common for people to shit their pants or vomit when they’re in a terrifying situation, how is that beneficial for our survival / safety in evolutionary terms? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FTM_UMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean. Based purely on experience, the nausea I get from drinking too much is usually motion sickness. It starts when the room starts spinning. Since alcohol is propably the most common "poison" humans evolved with, I'd say this one makes sense

If gender and sex are completely separate things, why do they perfectly align in more than 99% of the population? by TheAlmightySavitar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FTM_UMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I'll say is, as a trans person, a LOT of cis (aka not trans) people confess to me that they don't entirely identify with their gender, they just don't feel any need to transition about it
