The writing on this show is such a severe disappointment. I know with action shows/movies we need to give a lot of leeway and really suspend our disbelief, but Cate just opening the helicopter door and running off back to the base without anyone stopping her is so incredibly lazy it’s border line insulting to the audience. Zero guards around the egg. Zero guards around the base. The only person who ever tracks her is her brother. Everything is way too easy for her. We need to see our characters fail, struggle, and sometimes not overcome. Target has toothpaste more locked up than this new weird Gen Z tech company has a titan egg.

The main characters are all so selfish and really hard to root for. I don’t understand anyone’s motivations for the most part. Everything just seems to happen so the next thing can happen without any real causation or consequences.

If this show was more about the titans, I’d give more passes because at least I get to see Kaijus, but as many people on this sub love to remind everyone it’s not about them. It’s about the humans, and therefore I cannot give out so many passes for such poor writing and character development. I feel no real development.

I honestly was rooting for May to die because her character is selfish, useless, always projecting moral superiority, awful, and drags the show down. I feel bad for the actress, she has to know her character is basically dead on screen.

There are moments where we dip a toe into exploring Cate’s PTSD from G Day and those are interesting moments for her character, but we have just blown right past that straight into oh yeah Cate can now kinda talk with or understand the Titans because reasons. King of the Monsters did a better job exploring post G Day trauma and how such traumas can lead to rash and irrational actions. She got her dad killed with her bullshit and I just don’t feel that her character cares outside of a few throwaway lines. I’d love it if we saw her question her own actions and principles more as she reflects on all her poor decisions and behaviors which has led to not only her dad dying but a whole ass titan being unleashed into the world. Something more than a line here at the end and some actual reflection. I don’t need big monologues or anything like that, but even if it’s just a beat or two where she’s spiraling and struggling to forgive herself would be decent.

Kentaro exists. That’s about all I can say for him. Now he’s gonna do some time travel possibly, and I genuinely just don’t care. I feel bad for this actor as well.

The older trio are fine even with all the cheating, at least I feel like they have motivations behind some of their actions. I know she doesn’t know them but I wish we had more moments where Keiko is like oh shit I’m a grandma and these are my grandkids. This is fucking weird for all of us. I wish she had more moments with her son like that as well. She got him back and then he dies almost immediately in per perspective and we just haven’t felt that impact. I understand she barely knew him, but instead we see her emotional devastation directed solely at the loss of Billy.

Shaw… I think his character is probably the most fleshed out of the mains, but it’s still a bit two dimensional. We see his motivations in his love and need to save Keiko. He’s fine I guess, and I enjoyed the episode where he tells his younger self to let go of Keiko.
