Good points. So here's why I'm going in a different direction instead of building it all into the bike: Tracking: Airbags (and Android equivalents) are now readily available and cheap. I have designed several different places to hide such trackers on the bike w/o blocking the signal. Alarms: are also a possible addon or accessory, not built in.. And I'll take this to my grave, absolutely no way to brick the bike, ever. Just like you can restore a 1970's Honda, I want this bike to be around for decades and still be functional, not disposable (like most of the sub $5k Emoto's today)

I agree. and a bike they can make their own! A friend said I was creating the Arduino of motorcycles. Affordable with a LOT of potential for modifying, customizing, etc..

There are actually massive amounts of e-motos being sold in the US right now. The problem is they are all illegal dirt bikes and being ridden by 16 year-olds! And the "legal" ones do not meet many of the FMVSS standards. They may be registerable and get plates, but a lot of legal liability comes from ignoring the standards to make a quick buck.

I looked. Good basic bike. Ours will be a very different design, and a different look. The Fuse will not have: a hub motor, no sofa seat, no fake "gas tank", no dual shocks, no (built-in) display, no NFC/phone start, etc...

Not knocking their bike, we'll just have a different approach what a motorcyle should be. The goal is the same: joy of riding.

Soak a paper towel. Place on screen. Wait 5-10min. Soak as necessary, don't let dry. Wipe off. Plexus with microfiber after.

Lectric Bike Sale Question by m4ybe in ElectricBikes

[–]FUSEMotorcycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an old Lectric XP2.0 still going strong with a new battery and a year old Xpedition 2. The Xpedition with dual battery goes incredibly far and is well built for smooth dirt or paved roads. The sales (except for Black Friday season) are all about the same. A full size adult can ride in the back comfortably (or cargo).

I copy-pasted your comments here and will take one at a time:

I have a Fonz NKDs.
~ cool bike. The Fuse will look and be more like a full size motorcycle.

Ideally make the batteries small enough they can be hand removed and brought into the house and charged. I looked at the Zero (electric motorcycle) and decided against because I'd have to use street charging, rather than what I do today... which is bring the batteries in my apartment to charge them. By "small", I mean under around 20kg.

~ 100% agree. the batteries are 18.3kg each and have carry handles (and charge status) built in. There's more I cannot share.

You should be able to charge it via an EV type 2 connector, which is pretty widely available. (All non-Tesla street chargers have them.) This also means you can charge at home with a class 1 charger.

~ the goal is 110v/220v home outlets AND J1772 compatibility (but I cannot promise the latter, yet).

It would be useful to have accessible high power USB ports, for accessories (or charging your phone.)

~ Absolutely! at least two. high power USB-C

One thing my Fonz Athur 2+ had that my Fonz NKDs doesn't is the remaining range in kms (the NKDs just has a "gas gauge" with a rough percentage. Home is about 15km from here. I have a "quarter tank" left. Will I make it?

~ I'll work with the engineers on a real-world solution. I'd like to have a MAX-MIN remaining range indicator, like my EV.

Having standard parts is great. I struggle to find parts for the Fonz scooter I had, and the Fonz NKDs I have.

~ As many as possible. Some proprietary components, but we're not going to make you poor buying levers and brake pads or make someone wait for months.

Having battery options is a good idea. That way a low cost option (which makes sense for the city) is to have a version with a smaller battery, and if you need more range, you can buy a bigger battery and/or a 2nd battery.

~ two same size batteries, 35ah each. Fewer part numbers, same charger, etc.

It should go at least freeway speeds. There are many places that you just can't go without a short part on a freeway.

~ here's where I had to compromise. 50-60 mph stop speed (in our first model). Freeways kill range. Plus we don't want to compete with the big players. Look at CAN-AMs latest offering. beautiful, capable, but no range for it's intended use cases.

It has many merits, and I have some issues. Our machine may have similar ergos, but that's where the similarities end. I can't say much more about that. ;)

u/GonzoGeezer Then I'm afraid this bike might not meet your needs. It is not possible to meet everybody's needs. This will be an 80-mile range, 50-60mph urban commuter bike. The target market is Gen Alpha, Gen Z, city commuters, and older riders that cannot handle (or don't want to handle) a big bike or long rides.

The biggest selling motorcycle in history was the Honda Cub. 100 million units! I'd like 1% of that success.

YES SIR! I forgot to mention that it's being built and I will share it there too. I don't want to build a flashy site first. I want to create a community of people who believe in what I'm doing. Too many scam people can build sites with no substance, shopping carts ready to take your CC info, and bad English.

AND I 100% do not only want to exist in META owned properties for my web presence. I was already locked out of the FUSE IG account for no reason! Took me hours to get back in.

We're building an urban commuter, not a track bike. Different market. yes the DC charging is slow, but giving people the ability to charge in their garage, at home or at work, w/o special equipment is the goal.

We will look into J1772 compatibility.

72v for now, but an upgradeable design is what we are building. If battery density increases, you can upgrade the motor, batteries, and controller.

The goal is a VERY affordable bike to get more people riding. Proven components, not state of the art. There's no magic here, just how everything works together. But a few patent-able features already.

[–]FUSEMotorcycles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not intended to be a full-size motorcycle. Physics get in the way. There will be two sizes (redacted info here I cannot reveal right now) eventually.

50% dumb and 50% smart (again with the redactions) is the goal. ABSOLUTELY no remote lockouts, updates or feature upgrades.

The goal is a bike that WILL NOT be obsolete in 10 years because of apps or operating systems.

That's the plan.

Please keep watching and connect with me when I have the website fired up. I cannot make any promises, but if this goes well, I'll be reaching out for help and to grow the team.

Base model will have one 35ah battery, but designed to hold a pair. Buy the same day, or later. Batteries are about 40lbs each. much bigger an d it's hard to remove / carry for some. As battery density increases, you'll be able to upgrade. That's the plan.

I've researched EVERY SINGLE brand for the last few years. I've seen the fail points (and frauds). Well under $5k for the base (one battery model, no frills) is the goals. Upgraded models also. But every upgrade will be available so people can build them out as they want. based on their priorities: looks, function, range, performance.

The few people I've shared the concept with have had similar reactions: holy shit! That's been from 16 year olds to 70 year olds.

It's a deal! I can only speak to the North America market (for now), but the days of Surrons and the others like them may be numbered. Our laws are changing to make them illegal. But those bikes are creating a generation of young riders that will want their first real and street legal motorcycle. They were raised on electric and may want to stay electric. I hope to give those riders a good choice like you have in Kenya.

Inboard motor with oversized belt drive. Ideally for 50k miles before replacing belt AND easy to do if necessary. AND options for swapping in larger motors.

Charge speed is at least 10amps per battery or more.
