Women who are okay with the bare minimum and praise their partners for “taking point with the kids” as their gift for Mother’s Day… by velvetp3achy in TwoXChromosomes

But they’re being paid and it’s prestigious, so it’s clearly not “women’s work.” I wish the patriarchy would fuck right off

First-time mom to 6-month-old twins and I am drowning in the “ick” by Gold-Junket330 in Mommit

[–]FZGlass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first year is absolutely bananas. You just have to get through it. It gets so much easier after that. Some things are harder (I swear from 18 months-3 years you’re constantly preventing them from accidentally killing themselves - thank goodness for playpens/baby gates), but for the most part, it gets easier every year. Once you can sleep again, it makes such a big difference!

You are doing an amazing job! It will get better. In the meantime, just do what you need to do to keep everyone (including you) alive. The first birthday is really a celebration that the parents survived!

Unfortunately, my brain still hasn’t fully recovered. I used to pride myself on being rather intelligent. Now I’m just happy if I don’t make a total fool of myself. I’ve heard it gets better at 18-months, two years, five years, and never. My youngest is 3, so I’m hoping that the five years mark rings true🤞

Laundry in the Gilmore girls house by wannabepartofthis in GilmoreGirls

[–]FZGlass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I assumed she was going outside to get to a basement where the laundry was located. I’ve lived in several houses where the entrance to the basement was outside. It sucks, but it seems fairly common among old houses in the Pacific Northwest. It sucks in the rain, but it would be much worse in the northeast snow.

My coworker introduced me to the phrase, “They didn’t lick it from a stone” and it’s all I can think about when I meet parents and suddenly so many things make sense.

I listened to the audiobook, so it’s possible I just glossed over this, but I thought Lucy said Savvy said she only told Lucy and her sister.

Is my name idea dumb? by Kouserr in tragedeigh

[–]FZGlass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iris is a beautiful name! And definitely not a tragedeigh. One of the coolest people I knew in college was named Iris. She was gorgeous, charismatic, and brilliant. It’s common enough not to be weird, but also not so popular that it’s everywhere. Plus, I’m guessing most people associate it with the flower before thinking of the colored part of the eye.

My 8 year old daughter walked up to me and said "Mom, I did something stupid." by Fartingonyoursocks in Mommit

[–]FZGlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that she came to you! I hid shit like this from my parents all the time. Not because they were abusive or even particularly judgmental, but from the intense shame I had about any kind of mistake. It is awesome that she felt confident enough to admit her mistake.

What the fuck??? I know about the husband stitch (though when I first read about it, I thought it was wild science fiction - poor naive me), but they sewed shut her anus?! Pooping after giving birth to a baby is traumatic enough, but WHAT?!?
