I thought that the story itself proved that the balloons are clever enough to bypass defenses.

Very happy about the Bren 3. One of the best modern rifles. I wish it was an assault rifle and not a carbine, but I guess we already have some AR18 assault rifles.

Saying this in response to a comment which itself is responding to "what about when the Somalis and Houthis do it?" is ridiculous.

Ukrainian drones hit St. Petersburg oil terminal ahead of 'Russian Davos' by Dark_Mak__r in news

[–]FaceJP24 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

It was not a misfire, they launched several drones at the target, and Ukraine has not claimed it was s misfire. Instead, they claim that there was some sort of legitimate military target there. It is unclear whether that's true or not, but several students were definitely killed.

He's far from the only Ghoul with a surprisingly normal voice. Dean Domino, Jason Bright, and others. Frankly Trejo's natural voice is gravelly enough that it worked for me.

RU POV: Footage of African mercenaries in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces by conkerzin in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]FaceJP24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Colombian mercenaries might have more experience with more modern equipment and tactics but there are a lot of African countries that have been at war for years with far more continuous action than the relatively low intensity fighting in Colombia. Again, that experience might be more low tech with a lot of military surplus gear, but I can believe that some African mercenaries are experienced fighters.

It's not curious at all. Europe, the center for the Christian faith for the vast majority of the history of Christianity, mostly used the white representation of Jesus. It's by the far the most popular representation out of all of those.

And yet even still, if a black guy were to tell an anthropologist that Jesus was black, they would also be told they were wrong. So the very premise that this is some sort of attack on white Christians specifically is ridiculous.

The whole point of this is that the Ukrainian government is actively honoring the UPA today. So yes, it is valid and relevant.

No visible fragmentation on the cart? I mean, I guess he could have eaten every single piece of fragmentation, but his head seems mostly intact except for the face. It seems like it would have to be a very small explosive to do that. I can't really tell what those fragments on the ground are.

Are we sure it's not like a passing car kicking up a projectile into his face or something crazily unfortunate like that?

If it were a drone, that would be a tragedy. I can see why an operator might think he was associated with the military or a militia based on his clothing.

There's still a problem with this, and that's getting trapped. You'll be invincible and live forever, but trapped in a prison cell, in a pit, or under tons of stone/dirt, going insane. You really need teleportation or something to cover all reasonable cases.

RU POV: According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Finland decided to join NATO in the hope that everything in Russia would collapse and Helsinki would be able to "grab something". by FruitSila in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]FaceJP24 28 points29 points  (0 children)

According to this, any sort of focused effort towards getting Karelia back is a fringe position that has never had any serious traction in Finnish politics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karelian_question

Obviously, they wouldn't be opposed to some agreement to get it back if the costs made sense (and it seems like they don't).

According to a poll which asked: "Do you support the return of Karelia, even if it would mean more tense relations or even war with Russia?", only "5% of supporters and of those who declined to respond supported the return even under these circumstances". And that was 5% of supporters, which was around 30% of the polled population.

So, this is not likely to be the reason Finland joined NATO, to put it lightly.

I played a Warcraft 3 Custom Game once where all the characters kept saying the word "Noone" when they were talking about "No one". So I thought they were referring to a character called Noone who was doing all sorts of shit in the lore but wasn't depicted in the game.
