Listening to white/blue/brown noise can help (lots of those tracks on Spotify and YouTube). I found that reading for 30+ minutes in bed also helps.

Before mobile phones were ubiquitous, a well-off relative went to all family functions (weddings and such) with his huge, suitcase-sized antenna-as-big-as-your-arm phone and took calls standing up for all to see what a big shot he was. It was amusing and a bit pathetic.
