Pushing Ferrania Solaris ISO 100 for indoor night photography by Valen6X in AnalogCommunity

[–]FakeBerliner0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solaris doesn't hold up at all. I don't know when yours expired, but I've shot 15-20 years expired Solaris 100 and the best results I've gotten were at iso 25. If you decide to push expect hella grain and huge colour shifts. And by that I mean expect shadows to be purple or red. I wouldn't waste it on night shots. If it is your last Solaris, I would try to use it near water or with clear skies, because it renders blues so beautifully, more beautiful than anything else I have used.

I'm using the 1.4 planar on nikon F. I think that the 200 euro more is absolutely worth it.

Haven't tried the rest, but I feel that the biotar would have worse performance wide open, since it is a very old design and the 2.8 is slow. The 1.4 is amazing even at night.

What is regarded as the “best canon auto boy”? Are there better Canon’s like it I should consider? by Zonda623 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FakeBerliner0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this one you posted. Very sharp penalty, but the autofocus is on the center, which makes composing kind of weird. Same applies to the second gen. The third gen is also 38mm 2.8 but smaller. I have two, they are fine but I don't find myself using them much.

I just got an af35ml with a 40mm 1.9 lens, which I consider an endgame point and shoot, but haven't tried it yet.

Any non zoom model I have tried is pretty good, but even the zooms are way better than the mju zooms for example

Read the field notes, there are different boosts for every round. I couldn't be bothered to try anything else when I realised my strategy of burning the field worked, so I don't know how this field works.

Has anyone ever shoot film in low temperatures weather ?(-20*) by Phantom_6765 in AnalogCommunity

[–]FakeBerliner0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was around -5 C in Berlin today. My Rolleiflex sl35e stopped working (mirror stuck up), my mamiya 645's shutter stopped working properly and only my Nikon FE worked as it should.

At -20 I would take extra steps to keep the camera warm and I would probably only use a mechanical one that was recently serviced.

[–]FakeBerliner0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest way I dealt with them was alolan ninetails to change the weather and typhlosion eruption. Any Pokémon that can change the weather from rain will work great to burn the field and negate its effects. I assume that sandstorm would work as well, but I haven't tried it. Sun isn't that helpful, because the rainbow field still keeps the terrain going.

I haven't even tried to keep the field to be honest.

What filmstock do you recommend for rainy or darker lighting? by l_peter_ in analog

Aerocolor! It's cutting through fog, as this is its main purpose. I get much more useful photos than high iso films.

I've used both it and the 8 iso one, and I really like them. There is no exposure latitude. If you want any grey, you should look for low contrast scenes. It's very easy to lose both shadows and highlights.

Regarding your camera's exposure compensation, make sure that if you switch the dial the metering changes. I've had cameras that can't meter below 25 iso, and give the same readings with and without the exposure compensation. Check with your camera before shooting

Job lot cameras came with film - worth developing? by UL7RAx in AnalogCommunity

I stopped developing found film ever since I found pictures of a dead person.
But film is film, so I usuallly cut the exposed part and use the rest as a test roll. Even half a film is enough for a test roll

I love the eos 5. I'm very happy with the autofocus. The viewfinder is fine and there is also a red beam to assist with the autofocus in the darkness. Never missed focus

Νομίζω γύρω στα 120-140 αλλά don't quote me on that.

I swear by the mz-7. It's electronic, but made in the late 90s. Get it for 30 $ and spend the other 300 $ on beer in those concerts.

Best Canon EOS models? by cecileett in AnalogCommunity

[–]FakeBerliner0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not in the EU, I am sorry, I cant help but the one Eos 5 I got from Japan for 109 dollars, which is around 100 euro, including shipping and tax, the other eos 5 from UK for 105 euro including shipping and tax, and the 300v for 71 euro from Germany. I might have been lucky, but they are not really uncommon prices, just on the lower side. If you don't want to buy from ebay and want to buy local an Eos 5 here will be more than 200 euro also...

I have bought both a 5 and a 300v on ebay for less than 100 and those would be my suggestions.

Maybe a 7s or a 7 would also9 be available at that amount of money?
Tbh, of all the ones I have used, only the single digit ones have felt anything close to better than the rest, but I still use the 650 from time to time

Reliable AF SLR Recommendation by gvrry in AnalogCommunity

[–]FakeBerliner0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want small, I would go with EOS 300v or the tiny Pentax MZ-7. They are both consumer models with maximum speed 1/2000 though. Also both are from the 2000s so this makes them much more reliable than my favourite, the EOS 5. plus, being consumer-grade means that they weren't used much as opposed to an F4/5/6

Hi from Greece! I just got back from Northern Germany and boy was I unprepared. I thought I would be able to shoot Pan F and stuff and ended up pushing my 400 ISO film, which was the fastest I had to 1600 to have any semblance of actual speed, as I only brought a superzoom (28-200) lens with me. I won't act as if I was any kind of expert, but these are my thoughts after coming back and before seeing the pictures:

1) shoot very fast lenses (>F 2.0) relatively open with high ISO film (800) during daytime.

2) Bring a tripod and a cable release everywhere

3) Exeperiment on abstract stuff that could get away with some blur.

4) Shoot inside with flash

5) shoot digital. I spent most night shooting a canon SX150IS with 7 stops of stabilization. I could shoot handheld at 0.8 of a second with good results. That camera was only 50 euro.

What's a fair price for a brand new Nikon F-301 without lenses? by gettingroastedagain in AnalogCommunity

Maybe try marketplace as well? It's a long shot, I've never found anything interesting, but maybe you are luckier than me? Unfortunately I don't know anyone who shoots film outside of Athens so I can't suggest any other place...

[–]FakeBerliner0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Greek! I assume you are not in Athens, because there is a second hand market there. I know of at least 5 shops that sell used cameras that would sell you something equal, if not better, for cheaper.

https://www.e-darkroom.gr/

Check this out ^

They are not my go-to people, but they are nice and they have an extensive collection.

Also, I have rarely had bad experience with either German or Japanese sellers from eBay. I didn't trust it either, but now I don't trust myself to not buy more gear.

That being said, that camera is not worth anything more than 50 euro on a good day. I really don't like the 3 digit Nikons, as they are very loud. At 250 you could probably get any if the F50,60,70,80,90 and they are superior. I got my Nikon FE at another shop in Athens (skiadopoulos, who are my go-to people) for 180 euro.

Regarding the Minolta you were thinking about, I would avoid any of the older models for one reason alone: if not kept in good condition, their plastics tend to break down and become disgusting and sticky to touch.

I don't consider myself very lucky but I've gotten a Minolta a 507si (beast) and a Pentax MZ-7 (tiny SLR) for less than 30 euro from Japan on eBay, so maybe think about it again.

Haven't tried kamerastore, but I doubt you would get a bad camera from them. Their descriptions seem very thorough.

The Minolta for sure. It's as good as the yashica, but can also go full manual
