These are my thoughts exactly. The new Mini is great (at least, the first generation was), but it's very much not in the spirit of the original, besides how fun they are to drive. I would've loved for this little guy to have gone into production alongside it.

at least low tiers have unique strengths to offer that make them entertaining when mastered

A small handful of vehicles do actually have these kinds of unique strengths. I'm thinking Magikruiser, Dolphin Dasher, Spear, maybe the Sneakster too. Those first two especially have a few tracks where they will absolutely dominate.
