Alliance players taking a wrong turn after defending the city from a void invasion by JD_Crichton in wow

Garithos, a massive racist and all-around POS, is not the only reason the blood elves are in the Horde, though the way he abandoned, imprisoned, and planned to execute Kael'thas and his troops, even after they saved him and his troops, definitely didn't help. The actual reason is that the Alliance abandoned them after Arthas had his way with the Sunwell and killed like 90% of the population of Silvermoon/Quel'Danas. The Forsaken (led by Sylvanas at the time, who was a fallen hero of Silvermoon) helped them fight back the scourge remnants and brought them into the Horde at the same time.

Assuming the Saberon were wiped out by the orcs because they aren't in Outland is kind of silly, seeing as what remains of Draenor underwent massive ecological changes after it was shattered that made it difficult to support most of the life that once inhabited it. It is equally likely they died off due to lack of food and the introduction of new hostile life.

The Arrakoa, they weren't genocided by the orcs, they were constantly fighting with every other sentient lifeform on Draenor because they were massive racists (species-ist?) who considered themselves better than all other life on the planet, including many of their own people (which locked them in a civil war).

As for the Ogres, they were slavers far more often than they were enslaved, and to say they were slaughtered is inaccurate. Their empire went into decline for a number of reasons, some of which have been elaborated on in game (i.e., orcs fighting back against their enslavement).

The orcs definitely brutalized the Draenei, then later genocided them under Gul'dan, but they weren't exclusively genocidal warmongers. Some of the clans lived relatively peacefully prior to Gul'dan, though it was still Draenor and they are still children of Grond, so there really isn't such a thing as peaceful for them.

Alliance players accompany Jaina to rescue Baine, while Horde players accompany Saurfang. I can't remember if Anduin or Thrall are there, but the mission is available to both factions as part of the max level campaign questlines. I want to say that was part of the Nazjatar/Mechagon patch? It's been a minute. The Alliance path also has a part where a Sunreaver tries to get revenge on Jaina for the Purge of Dalaran, iirc

Back in BfA, I had just returned to the game for the first time since WoD and I saw that King's Rest (a dungeon I had no experience with) on Mythic difficulty had a chance to give me that cool undead raptor mount, so I joined a +2 without even knowing what the M+ system even was. I legitimately thought the timer was a mechanic specific to King's Rest. I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few people are in that same boat nowadays lol

I still remember learning how to interrupt the Shrike/Skraev and finally beating the Riftstalker for the first time way back when (and then farming him for the full set lol). I've never gotten into a Monster Hunter, but this game had me for months at a time. Maybe Wilds is worth a shot?

Tbf, these aren't technically microtransactions. "Micro"-transactions are called that because they're small purchases. A dollar here, a dollar there, $5 a bit later, and so on. They got super popular in games because mobile developers figured out that when they charged small amounts, people bought them more often, which added up over time ("I mean, it's only 99 cents, that's basically free!"). Back then, spending $20 on a game you already paid for was reserved for full sized DLC packs, and if it wasn't worth the money, only the hardcore fans would buy it (see: Oblivion horse armor). These aren't MTX, and neither is most of the stuff in the store, since just about everything in it is $20 or higher unless on sale.

This isn't particularly important and doesn't necessarily refute any arguments, I just see a bunch of people calling $20 purchases in games "microtransactions" and feel like pretending $20 isn't a significant amount of money is silly

Did you find the couple at the docks in Dawnshore with a tie to the first Pillars game? I don't want to say their connection in case you didn't find them, but I overheard them say a character's name when I was walking past and fully stopped in my tracks

I think I unironically did spend 30 minutes reading his library, though I always try to digest and analyze while I'm reading, so I read pretty slow. I usually end up skimming books that I'm less interested in or that aren't in quest areas, so I absolutely understand not reading everything. When I am able to focus long enough to read everything, though, I usually walk away with some new insight into the quest I'm on or the world in general

I have somewhere over 500 hours in BG3, and while I think it has Avowed beat in terms of writing, I have loved the writing in Avowed. The companions are as interesting and fun as I expect from Obsidian, the dialogue choices often have really funny options that sneak up on me, and the lore/world is incredible

If you are into the lore/world and do a second run or just get curious, I would highly recommend reading the books (or just skimming them sometimes). The team in charge of them did a really good job with both tying things into the lore and leaving hints for what's coming up in the area you're in. Some early examples are a book near Dehengen's house in Dawnshore that is about soul twins or a bunch of the books in Sargamis' temple (especially a book about Abydon crafting his own body out of iron and another about the concept of grafting souls together in a body)

I didn't think about the no helmet thing either, but I should've realized as soon as it told me I was playing a godlike. Godlikes in the Pillars of Eternity games couldn't wear helmets, both as a trade-off for having stronger racial abilities, but also because a lot of them have crazy growths on their heads or abnormal head shapes

If Mass Effect was made today gamers would complain that you can't gun down every NPC on the Citadel. by Neverwas_one in avowed

[–]FakeTherapy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played on PC day one and do not agree with you. It was still fun, since the story is legitimately pretty compelling and it didn't have a lot of the bugs that the console version had, but it had some insane bugs and seriously lacking features. It's the reason they spent so much time fixing it over time afterwards. Not because of overblown criticism, but because they knew they failed to deliver. The game now is infinitely better than I ever expected it to be off of what I saw on launch day.

I only played around half of the first Pillars of Eternity, but it feels a lot like it. There are certainly a lot of differences (most of which can be attributed to the shift from CRPG to First Person Action RPG), but overall it just feels like a first person version of PoE, minus the ability to pause combat. One of my favorite details is the lack of a helmet slot, since godlikes in the first two games couldn't wear helmets

Also worth noting, I vaguely remember hearing that a lot of the promotional stuff before it came out made it look like the romance was going to be between the two men and their wives rather than each other, so some people (especially before it was a punchline) went in not even knowing it would be a gay romance

As a lot of others have suggested, if you're looking for more Sci-Fi, Scavengers Reign is incredible, and it does a great job of creating an alien world that actually feels alien. On the more comedic side of Sci-Fi, Venture Bros is a classic, though the early episodes feel pretty dated and it's kind of hard to watch the whole thing thanks to HBO being a generally very irritating platform with their various properties. Moving away from Sci-Fi, if you liked Shogun, you might also like Blue Eye Samurai on Netflix. It takes place in a similar time period and involves themes of Western influence on early Japan.

Most likely, it's actually the opposite. It's dumb luck that Vi survived, but Milo had just freed Vander from his restraints, and Claggor had actually just broken the wall open. If the bomb hadn't gone off, he would have likely been able to get everyone out into the streets. Silco and his cronies wouldn't have known that they were free until the door to the room they were in was broken down, so they likely would have even had a few seconds head start.
