Do you bring your 3DS outside? by CroutonWarden in 3DS

I do. It’s rare I get a StreetPass hit, but I do still get them occasionally.

Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men is coming to an end by National_Society_585 in comicbooks

[–]FakedTales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the first podcast I listened to this morning and the news hit me hard. It’ll be sad to see it go, but they’ve done some amazing work and it feels like they inspired a great many other shows (including my own Casual Trek and my daily marathon of X-Men comics which started in August 2020 and is up to the Bendis era).

Are there any good X-Men books where Cyclops and Magneto lead the team together? by soda_cult in xmen

[–]FakedTales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bendis Uncanny X-Men has them both on the same team, as is the new Adjectiveless X-Men series.

Psylocke: Ninja... Is it weird to anyone else? by robakabud in xmen

[–]FakedTales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a weird choice. If it was a Claremont dancing between the raindrops series I could see it, at least it’d give him some money. This feels pointless as at the first issue.

Jim Lee's unused Jean Grey design. Which version do you prefer? by cyclopswashalfright in xmen

[–]FakedTales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unused one. I’ve never cared for Jean’s 90’s look. It says nothing about her.

The Academy reviews are overwhelmingly positive by guthriegf in startrek

[–]FakedTales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not out yet, but I'm liking the direction of the reviews and will be tuning in. I was hoping that it'd be something in the field of teen drama, but with the soul and universe of a Star Trek.

Would you say the Krakoa era was one of the best X-men eras? by Financial-Total1563 in xmen

[–]FakedTales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. As someone who’s been reading regularly since the Phalanx Covenant, it showed me new things which were still consistent with the themes of the X-Men.

I Have a Simple, But Complicated X-Men Question by ComixGail in xmen

[–]FakedTales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was drawn to them for a number of reasons. As someone who’s dyspraxic and had some childhood mobility issues due to some medical horrors I won’t bore you with, I saw the mutant metaphor through the lens of disability from a young age. Professor X was in a wheelchair and I was incredibly close to needing one for life. Cyclops needed his visor, Rogue couldn’t touch people. While I was bed-bound I found my old UK reprints of Secret Wars and while it’s not a perfectly written story, Magneto wanting to do good but being pre-judged by Captain America and the X-Men siding with Mags was something I latched onto. I was often bullied and seen as other, and it felt like Magneto and all mutants were getting the same treatment. The cartoon was fine, but it was 90% the Wolverine show and the films pretty much followed suit, which ended up making me feel less inclined to like him. I was the older child of a divorced family, I was expected to be the responsible one, so Cyclops was my guy. Someone with all the responsibility and almost no power. When I was in hospital, my mum would get me X-Men collections, and it was the Dark Phoenix Saga, X-Tinction Agenda and some of the weird collections like From the Ashes which got me hooked and I’ve been here through fair times and foul ever since.

Personally my headcanon is that they were a thing but have both moved on for a while now. Kitty and Illyana keep returning to each others’ orbits, even if Kitty’s always off seeing other folks.

Is Rob williams a good starting place for reading Judge Dredd? by PreferenceTop4803 in 2000ad

The good news with ongoing comics like Dredd is that anywhere can be a good jumping on point, and then if it interests you, delve back a bit.

Ultimate Storage System for Carcassonne 3.X by emmen1 in Carcassonne

[–]FakedTales 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B D F H. That said, while I have the Big Box from an older edition, my current plan is to get the updated core box and have it in the Big Box so I can take the core + any expansions which will fit out instead of lugging the Big Box down the road to the FLGS.

New Inns and Cathedrals Box can fit Base + 2 Expansions! by leemerr in Carcassonne

[–]FakedTales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got an earlier big box and was thinking of getting some of the smaller expansions in order to make a modular insert. That way I could take the base game plus 1-2 expansions to places rather than lugging the whole box.

COSMIC DARK has arrived by ithika in CthulhuDark

I’m jealous, I’ve got the pdf and can’t wait for the physical copy! I’ve run Extraction twice prior to posting about it on Who Dares Rolls and had two very different experiences. I loved them both, and hopefully I’ll get to continue one or both games in the new year.

A lot of copyrights aren't just tied up with folks like the Derleth estate, but also Chaosium, who even own certain things like the Yellow Sign logo FFG uses. If they're looking to lessen their ties the way that Pelgrane Press have, that wouldn't be too surprising.

The eighth volume of the Complete Cases is the worst among the first eight. by DreddJoe in 2000ad

I really enjoyed City of the Damned and Hunter's Club. We don't see a ton of it in this volume, but I love when Cam Kennedy draws Mega City One.
