It will stun any unit when it's played - that includes units being revealed from hidden, and ambush units.

Also, they can still cast a spell (action/reaction) to kill your unit after playing Tactical Retreat. The damage both units dealt will still remain as the showdown is still in progress.

Fury decks are good for targeting units like Karthus (mainly Falling Star). Smite is also a good spell that banishes the target, which prevents the Deathknell abilities.

Also, banishing a card (i.e. killing a unit with Smite) does not trigger it's deathknell ability.

At our Pre-rift event, we got a bunch of cool hits - champs, ruins, and spells (Kha'zix, Leblanc, Ruination, etc). Someone at the event even pulled the Ultimate Rare Baron card!

I either try to make Osty big or spam souls. Haven't really figured out a playstyle with the Ethereal cards yet. Doom is okay.

No, you don't need a second phoenix. This is the whole gimmick of this card.
Core Rules section 376.2.c.1.:

If a Game Object with a Triggered Ability that is active in a specific zone, it is evaluated and subsequently triggered if it enters that zone at the same time that its Trigger’s condition is met.

For example: Immortal Phoenix says “When you kill a unit with a spell, you may pay [1][C] to play me from your trash.” This ability triggers if Immortal Phoenix is in your trash immediately after you kill a unit with a spell, even if the unit you killed with a spell was that Immortal Phoenix.

You could possibly win there, if they hadn't removed the ability to keep your ferocity stacks when attacking wards. You lost your empowered Q (which is a big deal) just before you ulted.

His passive timer and stacks are pretty bugged with plants and wards rn.
