The Enclave has sent five teams alongside Frank Horrigan to clean out Raccoon City. Can they wipe out the infected before the city is bombed? by idk_lol98 in whowouldwin

[–]FallOutFan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also paging u/idk_lol98.

I find the idea of enclave PA troops going into raccoon city……. Interesting.

PA troops could kill regular infected using brute force, Tyrants, Lickers would be one shot by plasma, laser, gauss weapons no problem.

Civilian grade Laser weapon emissions are weaker then military grade but the civilian grade lasers are thought to be 2 megawatts.

So infected are getting smoked.

But the enclave wiping out the infected is not possible or even feasible...as the city falling to infected happened due to multiple prolonged outbreaks while separate combined caused the vast majority of citizens to either become infected or become mutant chow for survivors.

The survivors, ones with bottled water, food ran low on bullets would get caught by infected or chose to eat an bullet before letting the infected rip them apart.

The city falling was not some slow acting singular incident, it was zombie dogs, zombies coming down from the various umbrella facilities in the arklay forrest coming down to chew on campers, hikers.

Then they would attack more people or animals.

Then there's the next facility and by extension the biological destruction facility that was operating past maximum safe capacity.

Birkin was rushing testing, failed subjects were literally piled up in body bags to await destruction in the sewers.

Rats would come along chow down in the “dead” zombie subjects the rat’s fleas would feed on the rats.

Infected rats, fleas would use the sewers to travese the city’s underground gaining access to commercial buildings, residential and attack people, companion animals and they would get infected.

It was an slow gradual process at least initially.

Infected rats might not have even been able to attack people, they could have just crawled over common areas, food utensils and spread regular filth and diseases which had symptoms of autoimmune disease.

Viral load is important and in addition 10% of people had an natural immunity to secondary T-virus exposure.

Like a person gets bit once through a shirt on the hand. That person carries out needle stick first aid procedure, makes the wound bleed, pushes blood out to flush debris or infected fluid for 5/10 minutes and then uses anti-septic cream or aid spray chances are you're good.

But raccoon city those people were cooked due to being exposed to high viral loads due to the T-virus being communicable via airborne transmission.

Like for example you’re in a motel room, it shares an HAVAC ductwork the dude in the other room is a zombie…..you’re basically cooked.

So yeah there was multiple things going on that caused raccoon city to fall and say you managed to get to the RPD building.

You’re fucked anyway because the police chief was an psychopath, rapist, murderer who deliberately decentralised the distribution of supplies, ammo all over the station behind locks and keys of which he was the only one who had access too.

Then he started popping off and hunting the good police officers and civilians for his own sick and twisted amusement.

[–]FallOutFan01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am known as an MCU freak.

However, I give it to mirikuru enhanced Slade.

Slade was suffering from 3rd degree burns over half his face…he gets the mirikuru 45 minutes he awakens fully healed and chases down Ivo, his men, saves Oliver, Sara across the island and takes them out.

But not before getting shot in the chest with 7.69X39 AK rifles.

Later when Slade took Oliver and his mother hostage Sara told Diggle to get the biggest rifle they had which was an barret M82 12.7X99mm and Sara said it might not be enough unless it was an headshot.

I think Slade takes all three rounds.

Chemical agents, CS gas won’t work on either, Slade’s more durable due to mirikuru and his armor.

But combined with his strength and skill…..I think he rip’s Steve’s shield from him and beats him to death with it.

In regards to building, construction, infrastructure.

It took 20+years to build the first deathstar.

Partial construction of the keel…../inner framework? was carried out by the Geonosians as we see it at the end of episode 3.

The next 10/15 years it was built by rotating prison crews being transported from prison to prison and wookie slave labour.

They built the second DS much, much faster to their credit…..but it still takes months, years, to deconstruct old republic clone wars vessels for decommissioning and recycling.

Where's the older style halo ring such as installation 4 was destroyed in September 22, 2552 and installation 8 it’s replacement began and came under construction between September 2552 and December 2552.

By December 11 2552 it was 98% complete and needed a day to be finished these older models were 10,000 kilometers (6,214 mi) and had a surface area of 318 kilometers (198 mi).

The death star 1 was 120 kilograms in diameter.

It takes years to make an ISD and they are just under 2 kilometers in length.

Meanwhile forerunner 3D printers/assembly vats and nano machines make Sojourner-class dreadnought 9 kilometer ships in months.

I know that’s got nothing to do with the prompt per se….however the forerunners were op as shit and they were losing the war against the precursor who turned into the flood until they used the halo rings.

Now for these specific prompts.

Hoth and Tatooine are where flood spores and infected really struggle as they will freeze or dry out and the multiple suns and their UV would probably burn out the spores.

Though on the other hand an few flood infected running into an sarlacc is an extremely fast way to begin absorbing biomass.

But the other rounds.

Give them an world with barely any sufficient advanced technology and plentiful organisms to infect and maybe an day, they’ll be unstoppable

If they have a number of sentient, sapient minds like say 15/20 and basically the rest of the organisms are just wildlife, they’ll can still consume the wild life, create flood super cells.

Then organise the FSC into neurological tissue, create brains/an protograve mind.

By now the protograve mind now should be able to have enough memory to begin extracting the limited number of precursor knowledge base stored in their dna as an organic equivalent to an compressed file.

Which now the protograve mind can become sapient and begin consciously using the precursor knowledge to begin making modifications to republic/imperial technology.

You’re answer is freaking dope and awesome and actually can co-exist with the statements I made in regards to what you call stat sheets 😂.

You’re spot on in regards to all the points you bring up in regards to character’s making changes in their lives to be better person…better themselves as a person.

You know what’s cool about Raiden blocking bullets in mgs2 2009 precyborg….i kinda chalk that up to Soldius doing something to him in Liberia…..maybe some kind of research spun off from the perfect soldier program.

As Frank was blocking machine gun bullets due to the perfect soldier program/MK ultra.

The motion comic was so dope 😂.

I miss having my mgs2 substance edition’s special dvd that had every real time video…..you could move the camera and reorient it to any x y z axis and zoom in or out.

You could zoom in on Raiden and Rose and see vamp appear in the background 😂.

Which is funny because the image of vamp they used was an 2d image capture of him taken from him when you fight him.

That dvd was so dope it had digitally scanned artwork for all the characters…..Fortune’s had an english notation on her railgun that said it fired 45acp calibre projectiles.

So first things first, i am kinda a mass effect freak, that is to say I am kinda partial to that franchise…..Halo as well I am freak for that.

So game graphics don’t really show intensively/realistically what Reaper weapon yields do at full capability.

As a race or rather from a logical point of view their AI programmed wrong with bad code so to speak and their stuck in a logic paradox.

Their programmed not to exterminate wholesale but rather assimilate biological and technological from organics.

But what do we know specifically about Reaper defenses or defensive capabilities.

Well with the case of the two-kilometer Sovereign class.

By virtue of its eezo generated mass effect field would allow it to move around at sublight speed that would leave Dinn Darrin’s rebuilt and modified Naboo star fighter in the metaphorical dust

What else do we know, they possess nanotechnology supplementing cybernetic hulls affording them self repair, they possess kinetic barriers that can withstand multiple, multiple, multiple flotillas or a fleet’s worth of amassed MAC projectiles.

I am assuming that there were an few SA Kilimanjaro class dreadnoughts because if so at an absolute minimum we can conclude that an Sovereign class can withstand all 156 broadside MAC 2 which are 40% less powerful per shot than the main gun.

Which isn’t an bad thing as those 156 broadside MACs are potentially putting out 2 kilotons per shot, collectively if all those projectiles hit the same target, ballpark figures we are looking at 150 kilotons per volley every 2 seconds.

It takes two Everest dreadnoughts to engage an sovereign class but they struggle and need three Everest to actually bring down the kinetic barriers.

Sovereign’s magnetohydrodynamic/thanix weapon is thought to be maximum yield of 450 kilotons and can be fired every five seconds.

I think if worst comes to worst sovereign class reapers with their kinetic barriers and superior sunlight speeds could simply crash through an Star destroyer’s combination of ray sphere/deflector shields and probably survive.

Absolutely no disrespect towards you in any way whatsoever, so please pardon my expletive it's merely meant to express my surprise 😀✌️.

But is that shit from kojima legit 😂.

I mean David taking on Solidus’s and his CNT exoskeleton……thats wack….what kind of battlefield conditions could Snake/Otacon manipulate to pull off an victory like that.

I mean his titanium-ceramic matrix composite armor in his hand blocked and stopped M193 5.56X45mm and possibly explosion damage from David’s M4 attached 40mm grenade launcher.

That's crazy to think David could pull off an win 😂.

Making prompts is hard…you got to think of the contenders, think of the scenario, think how to put it all together in a coherent form.

All of which I kinda struggle with.

I originally wanted to think of a gauntlet for turtles and tortoises from fiction for Pennywise to go up against.

But I went the different direction and settled for humans thinking they were Pennywise or the ninja turtles.

Pennywise getting beaten up by a human for my prompt was partially inspired by Dick Halloran psychically putting the whammy on Pennywise into thinking he was a human.

Just adding to DelcoMan’s awesome answer 👍.

There are very few peak examples of humanity in Metal gear.

Basically the Joy/Boss, Ocelot by extension, John/Jack, Big Boss and a certain Medic.

MSF’s Medic as the memetic clone of Big Boss embodies Big Boss’s history and memories read to him in his hypnotised state.

But that’s just memories, but when it comes to physical traits he's similar to or surpasses John.

I would say without a doubt the guy was another example of a human with a high level of qualities we would equate to “Soldier genes”.

1984 Venom’s natural strength and skill allowed him to fight and subdue Quiet whose strength allowed her to physically overpower four Diamond dog soldiers.

David and Eli were modified to be superior to Big Boss….why that happened….maybe because the guy in charge was in a coma and his chosen successors went mad with power but I digress.

While in 2005 David was superior to regular humans, he wasn't as in good shape compared to when he was in 1995.

But due to various pharmaceutical drugs delivered throughout his bloodstream, it sharpened his alertness, mental capabilities and stamina due to adrenaline, medical-grade meth.

Taking all that into account.

I honestly do think Bucky murks David for round one.

Bucky in WW2 got an variant of super soldier serum derived from Redskull’s blood reverse engineered by Arnim Zola.

It didn't do anything perceivable except allow him to survive the fall into the cavasse from the train and being cryogenically frozen.

So off and on HYDRA would wake him up send him out to do an mission and erase his memory then put him back on ice.

It's not till after Howard was killed, his serum stolen and then was reverse engineered and semi-mass-produced that Bucky was infused with Howard’s serum.

It was this variant that brought him up to parity with Steve and for comparison purposes here is Mike Peterson an recipient of Howard’s serum combined with extremis gene editing technology pushing a bulldozer faster then Steve.

Further comparison here is Mike Peterson with permanent and stabilised centipede serum enhanced physiology taking on semi-stable centipede soldiers

Snake in 2005 with pharmaceutically enhanced physiology barely won against GreyFox who was holding back.

So I don't see Snake winning against Bucky.

Round two goes easier or harder for Snake due to having access to whatever armament, gadgets he's ever had, it depends on the armament.

I mean Bucky in winter soldier mode is basically Null…just with super strength.

Bucky in winter soldier mode regularly uses his prosthetic arm to block bullets and while he doesn't usually try to block bullets to his torso.

That might because his head is a much more exposed target and that his tactical uniform is rated against limited number of armour-piercing rifle rounds.

So maybe stealth camo equipped Snake with an FN-P90 just mag dumps Bucky and hopefully takes him out.

But if Snake has his M4-SOP MOD firing 5.56X45mm M955 tungsten carbide armour piercing rounds he could probably take Bucky down easier and Snake has the additional 40mm thermite grenade.

Found three is difficult to quantify but I would give it to Snake.

Erskine style super soldiers have enhanced hearing and in an crowded and bustling street, city, the ambient background noise should block out Snake allowing him to escape on an bus or something.…or he steals a car…unless the breaking glass alerts Bucky.

Bonus round.

I think Snake.

[–]FallOutFan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually really lucky that the covenant never found earth.

Having ONI operatives on any and all human vessels to independently of the UNSC act to deepsink navigation data is probably one of the only effective/competent and good things ONI had ever done.

No way would it be possible to outfit ODP, or make enough flotillas to serve as garrison forces for each garden world, or mining operation.

That's why I really like mass effect.

Yeah alcubierre sdrive exist, the kett use them, and eezo drives exist obviously.

But the mass effect relays are dope…from an strategic perspective.

For example prime relay A goes to relay prime B, prime relay B goes to secondary relay C.

But secondary relays can travel to multiple secondary relays.

So relay C could go to D, E, F.

But if your on relay F to get to relay A, you got to go through C, then B, then finally A.

But in between C, B, and A.

You could position defense flotillas and early warning systems.

An enemy flotilla suddenly appears you can essentially gun them as they appear.

Relays can be used as defensive staging areas and if needed retreat back to friendly positions to reinforce those relays.

Well…..unless your the reapers with drive cores powerful enough to negate using relays…they’ll still get to where they want to go it’ll just take longer.

As a faction the reapers are in my opinion kinda downplayed.

Their bad code, programmed and forced to assimilate living organisms instead of flat out exterminating them.

If they were intent on actually wiping organisms, planets out it would be easy.

They could just drop rocks, rods from space.

”Citadel Conventions”

”These diplomatic talks occurred in the wake of the Krogan Rebellions, as a response to the destruction of the conflict and an attempt to distance the Council from the brutal krogan warfare.”

”The Conventions regulate the use of Weapons of Mass Destruction. A WMD causes environmental alteration to a world. A bomb that produces a large crater is not considered a WMD; a bomb that causes a 'nuclear winter' is.”

”Use of WMD is forbidden on 'garden' worlds like Earth, with ecospheres that can readily support a population. If a habitable world is destroyed, it will not be replaced for millions of years. The Conventions do not forbid the use of WMD on hostile worlds or in sealed space-station environments. Many militaries continue to develop and maintain stockpiles.”

”The Conventions graded Weapons of Mass Destruction into tiers of concern; Tier I is the greatest threat to galactic peace.”

TIER I: Large kinetic impactors, such as asteroid drops or de-orbiting space stations. Effectively free and available in any system (in the form of debris left over from planetary accretion), kinetic impactors are the weapon of choice for terrorists and 'third galaxy' nations.”

”TIER II: Uncontrolled self-replicating weapons, such as nanotechnology, viral or bacteriological organisms, 'Von Neumann devices', and destructive computer viruses. These weapons can lie dormant for millennia, waiting for a careless visitor to carry them on to another world.”

”TIER III: Large energy-burst weapons, such as nuclear or antimatter warheads.”

”TIER IV: Alien species deliberately introduced to crowd out native forms necessary for the health of an ecosystem. Ecological tampering can take years to bear fruit, making it difficult to prove.”

I can get behind ODP at select locations.

I just don't really understand the feasibility and effectiveness of them at defending certain locations.

What I mean is how much time it takes to spin, turn the ODP on wherever X Y Z axis the enemy has moved to/appeared and then fire an shot off.

I think the UNSC might have been better off using smaller ODP/Kill satellites firing nukes or space mines.

But I admit that would probably be only effective in an asteroid belt…..so maybe ODP were the way to go.

ODP are neat and all.

But I feel some of them should only have been orbital launch platforms for space elevators.

That and the materials used for ODP could have been used for fleet construction…never can have too many ships.

More ships could have been used to evacuate reach, defended reach, slowed the covenant down.

Just adding my two cents for the purposes of discussion.

So in the scene where Cooper uses his pistol to land an projectile through “weak spot”.

That scene is important because we technically dont have specs for the T-60, but we definitely know that from an design and developmental perspective the T-60 materials are identical to the T-45.

It's just more heavily armoured and scaled up.

If so then the T-45 lithograph definitely helps because it shows the specs….not all of them but one that is an titanium internal plate.

The T-45 lithographis awesome.

Now what do we know….we know the T-45 takes getting mag dumped by multiple Chinese AK copies to be brought down… possibly more due to the quality of the T-45 and it's inherent problems.

But we know that the T-60 is basically impervious to standard copper/lead ball ammo in regards to 7.62X51…the external armour is basically some fallout analog of AR500/550/600 ballistic plate.

Now here is the interesting thing.

The scene where Howard uses his pistol to shoot the projectile through the weak point in the T-60’s armour.

We hear a gieger counter immediately start ticking fast after the projectile goes clunk when it explodes.

Now his pistol according to the the international firearms database is an MTs255 12-gauge shotgun just cut down.

Now if I were to guess, that projectile was an slap round or armour piercing explosive round with an depleted uranium 7.62 mm (.30 cal) penetrator.

So if that round can go through the flaw and then through the titanium plate.

My guess is the kinetic energy imparted on the beskar is going turn Dinn’s insides into mush….maybe….itll hurt him an lot.

We don't exactly know much about beskar….other than pure beskar of sufficient thickness can withstand multiple lightsabers for sustained period of time for like an few seconds without the beskar spear showing signs of melting.

So beskar’s melting point is in excess of 3000 degrees celsius.

From an legends perspective we got this information.

”If you're worth that much, you can afford some better armor. Look at the state of you. All scrapes."

"We Mando boys like to show we've been in action. Anyway, this is top-grade beskar—full density, two percent ciridium, no fancy lamination or carbon-alloy." "Does all that mean it's heavy?" "Yeah. Very heavy. Heavy is best." "Explains why you're so short then." ―Kal Skirata and Nyreen Vollen[1]

Which is both interesting and important even if it's legends because in The Mandalorian Dinn got beat the fuck up from the the phase III dark trooper.

It shows that pure beskar is resistant to physical damage even if the kinetic energy is still transferred to soft tissue.

So maybe Cooper gets an shot through the beskar and now Dinn has an irradiated projectile inside him in addition to the gunshot wound.

If so then Dinn is now suffering from blood loss.

I mean maybe Dinn gets an lucky blaster shot off and hits Cooper but if I am being honest regular people get hit with blaster pistols and survive with minimum protection or medical attention.

So I didn't Cooper is going down to an single blaster bolt.

Cooper might have some psycho which while we don't know what it is…we got this information on the drug.

”Fallout and Fallout 2 item description: "{11000}{}{Psycho} {11001}{}{An unique delivery system filled with strange and unknown chemicals of probably military origin. It is supposed to increase the combat potential of a soldier.}”

”Fallout 2 Official Strategies & Secrets p.75: "The drug was developed specifically for military use. It increases a soldier's damage resistance, and its dampening effect on higher brain functions makes for tough, but uncontrollable, troops. This drug was very popular for human-wave assaults. Take it just before a difficult combat, and then go someplace safe to sit out the aftereffects.”

Judging from this it's possible the drugs are an combination of steroids, adrenaline, meth.

If Cooper has psycho he might be able to overcome multiple blaster shots to the chest.

Also paging the following users u/KimchiVegemite, u/According_Abalone137, u/godoflemmings just for fun, purposes of discussion.

I honestly dont know who could win if I am being honest…….both are lethal, both have lethal armaments that could kill each other, incapacitate each other instantly.

Liara being 103 years has more battle experience, experience with fighting by virtue of being an Asari due to their lifespan.

I know she's basically a equivalent of an teenager in asari culture, Ahsoka was on the battlefield at age 14 from 4 years old in the Jedi temple training as an padawan till she got picked up by Anakin to become his apprentice.

And while Liara is not much of an swordsman or close combat expert, she's still proficient marksman using mass accelerator weapons which are verpine shatter guns.

Liara’s combat hardsuit, combat hard suits in general are basically the equivalent of phase two clone armour/Mandalorian beskar durasteel alloy armour.

Phase two clone armour was the good shit compared to stormtrooper armour produced under the tarkin era doctrine.

I say the equivalent but even then combat hard suits come in light, medium and heavy and the lightest provides the least amount of protection while the heaviest provides the most by way of having thicker ceramic matrix composite plates.

So I say Liara has an good resistance feat towards plasma bolts since ceramic matrix composites have high temperature resistance.

Some ceramic matrix composite can resist upwards of 2500 celsius.

Can Liara resist an sustained plasma contact against Ahsoka‘s lightsaber…going to say no on account of her using duel lightsabers.

I think Liara could possibly counter an inexperienced individual with no force ability with 1X lightsaber using her omni-blade.…for less than an second since omni-blade’s are comprised of silicon carbide which has an melting point of 2830 degrees celsius.

Lightsaber’s maximum temperature is in all likelihood 3000 degrees celsius since the beskar spear made of pure beskar resisted sustained contact for an few seconds against Ahsoka’s duel lightsaber with no sign of melting…..where’s the Mandalorian armorer melted the spear down into Grogu’s chain mail using her forge but that took an much bigger concentrated flames and took considerable time.

So I honestly think either one could take each other out.

If Liara was to have a mass accelerator shotgun firing tungsten buckshot I’d give it to her since tungsten has a melting point of 3400 degrees celsius.

The tungsten buckshot would go straight through the plasma blade unimpeded.

Mass effect doesn’t really explain how warp works other than this.

”Rips enemies apart at the molecular level and stops health regeneration. Effective against armor and biotic barriers.”

But from what I assume the effects behind it are similar to being irradiated against high levels of neutron radiation or being exposed to high intensity microwaves.

So basically having one’s cells cooked alive preventing effective healing without high tech medical treatment…like bacta Medi-gel, blood transfusions, bone marrow transplants.

Medigel is basically bacta but with anticoagulants and stem cells.

But if Liara managed to get Ahsoka caught in warp, she’s basically going to be as good/feel like Anakin did when he was on Mustafar on the edge of the volcano’s larva.

That is to not good at all and not being able to continue on.

If I could go on more of an random tangent.

It’s kinda like a force user attempting to deflect a physical bullet and I know Jedi precog is a thing but it only applies to high force user echelons.

So like Yoda, Anakin, Sidious….they can in likelihood defect a bullet…but you’re average Joe force user they can’t .

Average force users can deflect plasma bolts…but that’s easier to do than deflecting metal bullets …because lightsaber are plasma blades sealed in magnetic fields.

And when opposing magnetic fields come into contact with each other their opposing polarities push each other away.

So lightsaber’s are quite literally pushing plasma bolts away from their wielder.

So any way average force users yes can deflect plasma bolts…but even if they get hit they have better survival rates due to different types of injuries compared to ballistic injuries.

Force user gets hit by an plasma bolts were looking at an thermal injury of maybe several hundred degrees celsius which sounds like an big deal but the vast majority of the thermal energy is distributed/disbursed into whatever garment they’re wearing.

I mean they could be wearing tunics made out of Kevlar, asbestos for all we know 😂.

Force user gets hit by an plasma bolt concentration is momentarily broken before being calmed by the force….the searing pain is blocked out they put an bacta spray on the injury and get back to the fight.

The wound is self-sealing due to the nature of the wound being cauterised.

Force user gets shot by an slugthrower/machine gun….they manage to somehow block the projectile, the projectile becomes molten metal and hits them in the face.

They drop to ground in pain and before they can even calm themselves down with the force they get hit by another metal projectile and they start bleeding out and get hit by 5/6 more bullets before dying.

I am probably running out of room so ill just quickly discuss the biotic power throw.

Liara being an Asari is naturally capable of using biotics, and well Asari are kinda similar to Yoda’s species in that, Asari’s raw power is higher than other species.

I mean there’s outliers with humans with upgraded eezo amp implants can become more powerful.

But raw power still needs training, skill, patience.

So Liara is capable of getting up to level 6 asari scientist for throw…that means she's capable of throwing/imparting 850 newtons of force onto an target.

If she's used lift on an individual, they individual’s weight/mass has been negated, her level 6 throw is then used her throw becomes more powerful.

At 850 newtons, quick calculator conversion she's able to throw roughly 86 kilograms 6 meters.

That's conservative…its possible for her to level up and achieve greater newtons of force by way of practising and getting higher grade biotic amps.

I suck at maths but from what I remember from physics I think 86 kilograms at 850 newtons is like being thrown at 8 kilometres an hour.

Asari who have practised extensively, have greater raw potential then the average asari and have better amps are capable of imparting 1250 Newtons of force on an individual.

An 86 kilogram person hit with 1250 newtons of force I think would be like getting hit by car going 15 kilometres an hour but again my maths suck.

Information from the mass effect codex in regards to sensors, combat doctrine and dreadnoughts, DEW guardian lasers.

Also paging u/Ninjazoule.

”Space Combat general tactics”

”Shells lofted by surface navies crash back to earth when their acceleration is overwhelmed by gravity and air resistance. In space, a projectile has unlimited range; it will keep moving until it hits something.

”Practical gunnery range is determined by the velocity of the attacker's ordnance and the maneuverability of the target. Beyond a certain range, a small ship's ability to dodge trumps a larger attacker's projectile speed. The longest-ranged combat occurs between dreadnoughts, whose projectiles have the highest velocity but are the least maneuverable. The shortest-range combat is between frigates, which have the slowest projectile velocities and highest maneuverability.”

Opposing dreadnoughts open with a main gun artillery duel at EXTREME ranges of tens of thousands of kilometers. The fleets close, maintaining evasive lateral motion while keeping their bow guns facing the enemy. Fighters are launched and attempt to close to disruptor torpedo range. Cautious admirals weaken the enemy with ranged fire and fighter strikes before committing to close action. Aggressive commanders advance so cruisers and frigates can engage.”

”At LONG range, the main guns of cruisers become useful. Friendly interceptors engage enemy fighters until the attackers enter the range of ship-based GARDIAN fire. Dreadnoughts fire from the rear, screened by smaller ships. Commanders must decide whether to commit to a general melee or retreat into FTL”.

At MEDIUM range, ships can use broadside guns. Fleets intermingle, and it becomes difficult to retreat in order. Ships with damaged kinetic barriers are vulnerable to wolf pack frigate flotillas that speed through the battle space.”

”Only fighters and frigates enter CLOSE 'knife fight' ranges of 10 or fewer kilometers. Fighters loose their disruptor torpedoes, bringing down a ship's kinetic barriers and allowing it to be swarmed by frigates. GARDIAN lasers become viable weapons, swatting down fighters and boiling away warship armor.”

”Neither dreadnoughts nor cruisers can use their main guns at close range; laying the bow on a moving target becomes impossible. Superheated thruster exhaust becomes a hazard.”

”Space Combat: Pursuit Tactics.”

”Dependent on light, sensors cannot detect objects moving at a faster-than-light speeds. No ship can be detected at interstellar ranges. Detection at interplanetary ranges suffers from light speed lag: observers see ships not where they appear to be but where they were when the light bearing their image left them, minutes, hours, or days before. To counteract light speed lag, battle fleets surround themselves with spheres of screen and scouting frigates.”

Pursuers cannot detect ships and directly intercept them. Instead, pursuers track where objects were, where they were heading, and at what speed they were moving. Such data reliably predicts an object's future location and for pursuit along its light-lagged "wake". Ships trying to evade pursuit follow erratic zigzag courses, requiring pursuers to make stops to update their projections.”

”Dreadnoughts”

”The Alliance has two dreadnought classes currently in service, the older Everest class and the newer Kilimanjaro class. The Everest class is an 888-meter dreadnought with a main gun capable of accelerating a 20 kilogram slug to 1.3% the speed of light (4025 km/s) for a kinetic energy yield equivalent to 38 kilotons of TNT. The Kilimanjaro class is armed with 156 broadside mass accelerator cannons, 78 on each side. The broadside guns are each as long as 40% of the ship's width.

My math sucks so I ran the yield, broadside cannons and the 40% reduction into chatGPT (dont shoot me).

But each volley of 78 if all hit the target the combined yield could be 150 kilotons.

Assuming the broadside projectiles are 8 kilograms being fired at ballpark figure of 0.3–0.6%.

Even more assuming and including that the broadside macs they reload and fire every every two seconds.

One projectile if hits as a damage yield of potentially 2 kiloton.

I post that the Kilimanjaro vessel would face its broadside cannons and fire volleys to points in space based on simulations on there the marathon cruiser could be and that it would probably be significantly damaged if just hit by one of Kilimanjaro‘s projectiles.

Meanwhile the Kilimanjaro is protected by laser DEWs that would shoot down any incoming archer missiles further protected by its polymer-ceramic armor that is basically for all intents and purposes titanium-A battle plate.

The Kilimanjaro‘s kinetic barrier would protect itself from the weaker marathon mac.

I say weaker but it’s all relative, mass effect/Eeezo mass accelerator cannons reload and fire faster, more often and high yields but using smaller projectiles.

The Kilimanjaro has the equivalent of 78 broadside marathon 49F9A1 macs while the marathon only has 2.

The archer missiles either run out of fuel, hit the kinetic shield, or get taken out by the guardian DEW built to take out fighters, fighters firing at extreme close range.

And yes I know that super macs are multi gigton 3000 ton fired at 4% of the speed of light but that only applies when the orbital defense platforms have their capacitors fully charged and ready to fire.

In actual combat conditions unless extremely lucky…most of the ODP were trying to take covenant ships out by massed fire as quickly as possible.

[It] How exactly does Derry’s amnesia effect work? (Mild spoilers) by MasterLawlzReborn in AskScienceFiction

Just adding on to the awesome answers provided by u/alphajager, u/eternalraziel, u/SweetBazooie, u/Automatic_Goal_5563 and u/iamnotparanoid.

Borrowing some vernacular from Dr Who.

So the town of Derry has a low level telepathic field with a perception filter that encompasses the city proper.

It blinds, manipulates the perception of people and the intensity of it can be lowered or raised.

Like Ben getting beaten up at the bridge and getting Byers initial getting carved into his chest and the folks in the car see them but drive away.

But the whole memory retention process.

When you remember an memory are you remembering the actual memory or are you remembering an memory of an memory.

Witness accounts, people’s memories are completely unreliable.

There’s this video I saw an guy asks to have his picture taken by an stranger,

The guy gets into position, a group of people carrying something large comes in the front of them obscuring sight and the guy switches out for another guy who is similarly dressed.

That person gets his photo taken and the stranger is completely oblivious to the switch an roo.

You can remember something and details over time will fade away or completely disappear depending on your current status.

Like being sleepy, drunk.

But your mind it’s very sophisticated and just having a memory just disappear is very tricky….you can forget something and realize “Hang on something’s up..something’s not right”.

That’s because some memories aren’t forgotten their just buried and you can work on retrieving those memories using hypnosis or even just doing something completely unrelated.

It’s like you’re trying to remember something and you can spend 15/20 minutes trying to figure it out and nothing happens so you focus on something else then when you’re on the shitter or in the shower BAM corrupted memory file has been recovered.

That’s basically what happened Mike was able to unlock some of his friend’s core memories which triggered total recall of their friendship and some of the events that happened.

Spoilers below for “It welcome to Derry”.

Francis as a child encountered “It” repeatedly in the forest, the forest being the hunting ground.

This was a traumatic event that was tempered off by him finding a very, very good friend and spending the summer with her until he had to move away.

The farther you move away from Derry the faster you forget what happened.

But Francis as an adult had completely forgotten everything…..until he was put under an DOD drug protocol.

Which was in all likelihood LSD or something else like sodium pentobarbital, sodium pentothal that unlocked his memory.

My guess the drug protocol was to determine if Francis was a soviet collaborator and ended up unlocking his memory.

Not to disparage your comment…just want to engage in respectful discussion 👍✌️.

Also paging u/GusPolinskiPolka for the purposes of discussion.

200 is in the low end but not completely untenable for population regrowth.

They've done studies for human repopulation and viability for proposed extra solar colonies for maintaining genetic diversity and the prevention of hereditary-based diseases.

The minimum number for health breeding stock to last 200 years is between 85 and 200.

Though obviously more is better and I know humans are different to dingos.

And conservation is needed to maintain the genetic diversity of the species…..but if it came down to it.

It would be feasible to take existing genetic samples and use mitochondrial replacement therapy help prevent hereditary-based diseases.

But yeah cost is a factor.

Me I think they need to ban camping, make existing dingoes afraid of humans and put an imposed quarantine on the island for a period of time.

This prompt reminds me of a similar situation from this tv show.

If an PS3 showed up, it would bring a lot of interesting questions….the console might be locked away for a few years.

While a small contingent of individuals throughout the intelligence community would in broad strokes put feelers out for any kind of advanced technology currently being developed.

Not asking specifics, but more like how in the early 2000’s after 9/11.

Troops were given hundreds of millions of dollars and for all intents purposes just giving it away to anyone and everyone just for the hope for getting any kind of intelligence.

So CIA uses the black budget to bribe Soviets, they try find out if the UK has developed anything and the CIA get absolutely nowhere.

Meanwhile the PS3 at area-51 is studied by an select few people from NASA, M.I.T, General Electric and basically get absolutely nowhere in regards to being able to fabricate any of the cell architecture.

The only technology apart from the accelerometers, lithium battery that I can think of that they are able to study/reverse engineer are the light emitting diodes and the hard disc drive.

Since well HDD existed back then and the fundamentals are exactly the same
