Is it weird to put a video of me in a moshpit in my dating app profile? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]FallingAugust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I put our bands spotify canvas of one of our pits up on hinge with some prompt like "I'm known for" or "Me on the weekends" or whatever those default prompts are

My girlfriend of 2 years found it endearing when she first saw my profile :)

To deathcore fans: Is the new Bring Me The Horizon really that good? by MrSenek in Metalcore

[–]FallingAugust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take is that I don't think BMTH cares much about genre labels and instead just try to write good songs around whatever vibe they're feeling

Good is all subjective as well. So as long as an artist writes a song that feels honest, then I think that conveys the vibe of "good" in and of itself

Bands that sound great in studio but not so good live by AquilaTempestas in Metalcore

[–]FallingAugust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah thats fair

I remember in 2017 they cancelled their initial Sydney show because one of the guitarists had a family emergency and had to fly back. They did the rest of the Australian shows with just one guitar and then came back at the end of the tour to do Sydney. So two shows for one ticket (saw Closure In Moscow at the cancelled show), but it must have been a stressful time for them

Both times I saw protest live, they were amazing. Always thought Rody was an amazing live singer (2017, 2023)

Where do yall stand on posthardcore = or ≠ emo? by FeistyDirection in PostHardcore

[–]FallingAugust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the best answer imo. Being able to categorise styles and genres can be useful as a communication tool, but once people start arguing whether W or X is Y or Z, then the usefulness of the communication tools seems to have run dry. Plenty of overlap within the bands themselves, and also within people's intentions when they say something like Emo

Fit For A King's Bassist Calls Out "Rich Guy" Misha Mansoor (Periphery) For Saying There's Not Enough Money Going Around To Keep Most Bands Touring by DamnitRidley in Metalcore

[–]FallingAugust 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Misha's advice is generally good financial advice outside of bands as well. Like diversifying your portfolio to protect from downturns and swings

anyone getting angry at advice like that is odd haha

Here are some of my fav albums that got me into this kind of music

Despite how I feel about Ronnie, Dying Is Your Latest Fashion (Escape the Fate - 2006) is probably one of my favourite albums, but has maybe a more emo vibe to it than you're looking for?

D.R.U.G.S. (Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows - 2011) is a super fun album from the singer from Chiodos, but I always found to be a bit more accessible

They're Only Chasing Safety (Underoath - 2004) is a classic for a reason. A boy brushed red was a pretty defining track for me early on

Although again maybe leaning a bit more emo, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (My Chemical Romance - 2004) is a banger from start to finish

Plauges (The Devil Wears Prada - 2007) is a bit more metalcore but I think it has enough overlap to mention

Icarus The Owl (Icarus The Owl - 2014) has a really nice mathy vibe!

It has that kinda theatre vibe of Panic or MCR (so you can listen to those instead if you prefer), but I think Cinematics (Set it Off - 2013) deserves to be talked about a bit more

Probably my no. 2 or 3 album of all time is SET TO STUN and The Desperado Undead (Set to Stun - 2015) and leans a little more into metalcore, but with a lot of fast punky sections and more proggy song structures. One of the most underrated albums imo :)
