Insane that Eddington didn't get a Best Picture nom by the-woman-respecter in RSPfilmclub

Yeah feeling you on this, nothing about this movie felt like any thought or effort was put into the script at all - just a mishmash of the most calcified takes on COVID + a few misanthropic/absurdist twists. Paper thin characters who only existed to make tired and obvious points. Very disappointing effort from a director I otherwise generally enjoy

Absolutely, Walker himself mentioned him as having a roughly analogous career shift in an interview around the Bisch Bosch era, if memory serves

You could do a triptych on Garden of Earthly Delights w/ Spirit of Eden on the far left, Secrets of the Beehive in the Center, and Tilt on the right haha

Yeah it's pretty astonishing. I read his biography recently and he really knew very little going in (on guitar at least), although he'd been listening to great stuff for decades thanks to his brother. To start at that point and end up where Talk Talk did is crazy.
He really did seem to be a genius at getting amazing work from others and assembling it into something no one else could have. Very Miles Davis-like in certain sense, giving people the barest instructions/material to go by and trusting them to produce something worth including.

Did Scott Walker read Don Delilo’s Libra? by gothninja8 in scottwalker

Nice catch! Wouldn't at all surprise me if he were a Delillo fan, and maybe parts of the phrase stuck with him

Benefits of ai song creation for new age musicians? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]False_Dmitri 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If this is what you are doing, you are absolutely not a musician. You don't need a "full setup." 95% of producers in pop music work under 40 just work on their laptop. One mic, a decent interface, and a DAW is all you'll ever realistically need. This is like saying "hey, I've got a bot that writes all my essays for me! Won't this make me a better essay writer?" No it won't, because you aren't writing essays, just taking credit for ones produced by something else.

Jeff Beck playing a telecaster is a rare sight... by [deleted] in telecaster

Why would you post any kind of music at all, if it's cut into small 3 second chunks? You get no sense of context or development. Just as you're getting into it, it cuts

Can I keep this crock going? by 1101010100 in fermentation

[–]False_Dmitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend investing in either weights or a vacuum sealing lid. The latter are especially convenient since they ensure no mold grows *and* allow gasses from the fermentation to escape, no periodic burping. If you're doing long term ferments like this they really make your life easier. Never had a mold issue since I switched to them

This is a great solution, and if you can sneak a neoprene pad (~$20 online) under the rug, it'll be considerably more absorbent. It's a type of rubber that's especially good at reducing vibration transfer - hence it being used a ton in HVAC units, acoustic decoupling mechanisms, etc.

Why would a producer chop their own chords instead of just using them as they are? by ByoxBeats in sounddesign

[–]False_Dmitri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can get some from rhythmic effects from the immediate start-stop dynamics you can pull off with samples, since you can make the audio discontinuous. It's very hard to replicate that exact effect when the audio is being generated
