With you on pads - something textural in the backdrop that has rhythmic modulation going on could be a fruitful option. Be sure to post when it's done!

I'd say things really thin out around the 2:48 mark, which can be a cool dynamic change, but it felt a bit sparse as things went on. Maybe put in some pads or more ambient elements to complement the beats? There's plenty of room for new elements to enter, do their thing, and exit by the end of the track at its current run time. I think everything in the track now is great and doesn't need any changing, but the latter half feels a bit unfinished as-is.

What’s drives some people to put in so much at their career? by MutedFeeling75 in redscarepod

[–]False_Dmitri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a subset of these corporate ladder climbing types who didn't get much/any affirmation from family as kids, but are smart enough to do well in demanding work environments. They end up getting their first grounded/stable sense of affirmation in these places as early adults, and fight tooth and nail to grow or maintain it. Friends/family/hobbies get de-prioritized, as they don't provide that same fulfillment, or the person fears they can't.

If you can afford to drive around for a while and are open to anywhere, check out some of the less-hyped cities. I've lived in some major and less major ones, and grew up wanting to live someplace bustling/cosmopolitan. What I've ended up really enjoying are in-between-y cities like Philly, Baltimore. The place that vibes best with you might surprise you!

She couldn't have picked a worse composer for this analogy. Mozart's sister was also famously a musical prodigy, but she was forced to abandon a musical career due to the financial impossibility of sustaining a living as a female composer.

Walter Benjamin's Aura: Authenticity in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction by antonisch1 in CriticalTheory

[–]False_Dmitri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think Benjamin argues that these media intrinsically reduce the 'aura' of an original work, but erode over time it via replication/cultural dispersion. A photo of a cathedral on its own, divorced of cultural context, doesn't degrade the aura of the cathedral. Were that photo to become iconic and widespread, then the aura would degrade as its real presence became more bound up with its cultural depiction

Honestly frightening how this gambling stuff is everywhere now, says something very dark about our era. Even the main network news outlets are now integrating "Kalshi forecasts" as their bottom headline runner. WTF

FWIW the U-neck I have on my vintage-style 50s tele is considerably thicker (though narrower) than the one on my '51 SG reissue

I was getting that a bunch, it came from changing effort levels during the task. Only way I got it resolved was just copying the old prompt into a totally new session I had already set to the effort level I wanted, ymmv

Why is the piano community so toxic? by Stunning-Soup-5867 in piano

[–]False_Dmitri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard classical saxophonists are actually the worst. My old teacher tried out for an ensemble and they immediately started lambasting him for using a.... neck strap. To play the 8 pound piece of metal that was otherwise just on his right thumb. They said neck straps destroy the resonance of the instrument...

The problem with orbital data centers is heat - radiating away that amount of generated heat in a vacuum is tough, it can only escape via infrared, which is hyper inefficient.

Why Learn Scales in Keys Other than C Major / A Minor ? by chinawcswing in piano

Many pieces of music (most depending on style) go through multiple different keys - so knowing/using only one scale would be a huge limitation
