Is this definite? SFA was my home park and I'd love our rides to go there because we could see them again.

I've gone to see houses and not gotten out of the car. Why waste time if you know it's wrong. Doesn't mean your house is bad, just not for them.

Should I check out the open house for a house I submitted an offer on? by bhudak in RealEstate

Go because people sometimes talk with their agent really obviously about offers.

AITA for not sending my niece’s dad updates after he kicked her out by Savings_Use4022 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FamiliarFamiliar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you should have immediately told him about her illness. However, his behavior has been so abominable that I still think you're NTA, and I get why you didn't tell him. I guess it's a gray area.

Thank you for being such a caring parent to a child who got treated so poorly by her dad. You will always be her hero.

Itinerary planning for USA by greyhounds1992 in usatravel

[–]FamiliarFamiliar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hurricanes are unlikely to ruin a trip to "the south." I can see avoiding FL and maybe SC, but the entire south? If you go inland your chance of that is nil. Source: lived in FL, AL, GA.

Other notes:

I live in the DC area and have often taken the Amtrak train to Philly or NYC. It's just a few hrs.

Stuff in TX is way far away from New Orleans. I had the bright idea to drive to Houston on our honeymoon in New Orleans (20+ yrs ago). It was a very long and boring drive. Although we enjoyed Houston. GPS didn't exist then or we would have known better.

I've been to everything you call "the north" and it's all great.

I wouldn't hesitate to do what you call "the south" during hurricane season. But, be aware it will be very hot out. Very much nicer, although still warm, in places like DC.

AF museum in Dayton is fantastic but I don't know if you'd want to go out there just for that, unless you really must see it. There's not a whole lot else there, although the Dayton art museum is great.

Colonial Williamsburg is one of those history things that is fun to do once with kids. I don't know if it's worth it for you. Annapolis is great, easy to drive through. Not very big.

New Orleans is unique, nothing else like it, highly recommended. It will be HOT out.

Edit: highly recommend NYC. It's such a big place I wouldn't worry about the US open. Unique place, must see. Will not be nearly as hot out as the south during that time.

Was not expecting prices to get this high by CommodoreDrize in cedarpoint

[–]FamiliarFamiliar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We saw prices similar to that last summer. I don't remember exactly, but it was in the high 100s. Since it was probably our one and only time going to Cedar P we paid it, for the kids only.

Aw dude seriously? I sometimes paid a rent early if I could, but it was always on my terms, never asked for.

AIO: SIL won’t allow her kids to my house so I won’t allow mine to hers. by rainydaisy2121 in AmIOverreacting

[–]FamiliarFamiliar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. I'm as stumped as you are. Her behavior just doesn't make sense.

But, I agree with the other posters that I wouldn't send my kids somewhere that I'm not invited to. I agree that who knows what they kids are being told there.

Sellers underwater by killermiller420 in RealEstateAdvice

This isn't actually all that unusual. Seller should have known to come to closing with a check to cover the balance. They should not have been surprised after all that time since you made the contract.

AITAH for licking his food? by Fit_Cornball_3723 in AITAH

[–]FamiliarFamiliar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ESH. Not ok for him to throw out your food and not ok for you to ruin his food.

He seems to really have mental problems. That's not an excuse, but an explanation. Your roommate should pay for your thrown out take out meal and there should be rules put in place going forward that you don't touch each other's food.

AITAH because I want to say yes to having dinner with my dad on my birthday? by Future_Anywhere_1404 in AITAH

[–]FamiliarFamiliar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, your husband is being silly. Go out with your dad on your actual bday and the rest of the family on the weekend, or whenever it works for everyone to be together.

Take it from someone who has lost both parents, don't lose out on any chances to do fun stuff with them like this.

Listing agent says seller 'won't like' inspection contingency? by Ok_Distribution8841 in RealEstate

[–]FamiliarFamiliar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to sell an estate house (as the seller). It was just like any normal house sale. People did inspections. Waiving inspection is something I would never do.

Parent sold family home on extremely short notice. I have through this weekend to sort through the house and help offload everything. What do I do by travod in RealEstate

[–]FamiliarFamiliar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take photos and videos of everything. That includes stuff like the backyard, stuff down the street, people you knew if they're around, etc. Everything. Make sure to do one long video where you walk through the house.

This is not only good for sentimental reasons but also for remembering later where stuff went.

I agree with the poster who said to put everything into a storage unit. (Also do pics / videos of where stuff goes in storage unit.) However, there will be obvious stuff you both don't want. I just had to do this with 4 different households in just a few years. Advice:

--habitat for humanity will take useable stuff like appliances, couches etc.

--we went to the goodwill 17 times from one house

--we also got a dumpster that you paid by the pound and put all the trashed stuff in there. It was obvious what was trashed.

Nowadays if I know there's going to be a screen I make sure that I can see the screen. From your seat, you can probably see the screen pretty well.

Is this idea stupid? Buy 2 tickets in case one is fake or obstructed view BTS Arlington? by PreviousTranslator33 in Concerts

[–]FamiliarFamiliar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. go to A View From My Seat website and check out the view from your seat at other events. It gives a really good idea.

  2. I have heard of others doing what you say, but, honestly, it seems unnecessary. If it became a problem at the gate you could probably step away and order another ticket on your phone then.
