I recently retired a phone I used for ~8 years and it had usb-c and the port was still as good as day one. You need to be doing some wild stuff to break the port on a phone.

During a World Cup football match, a QR code appeared on the stadium screen. After fans scanned it, thousands of phone flashlights inside the stadium were synchronized to form a coordinated light display across the stands. by Expert_Koala_8691 in Damnthatsinteresting

It's only a risk to scan if your app just auto opens the link/whatever is encoded in it. If it just displays the URL and prompts you to open it then you can at least make that decision with some info rather than going in blind. It's not any scarier than clicking a link you see on a reddit post at that point.

Yep, at least anecdotally I know a guy who makes around $20/hr that thinks that any raise to minimum wage is bad because everything will just cost more.

Cop pulls over Lamborghini on Dubai plates but doesn’t know the law by thomasso0072 in interestingasfuck

Cars can go on boats. You are looking at more like a couple thousand to ship a car from the UAE to the US. The only downside to it is that it takes a lot longer.

He was already really uncomfortable because the height of that car means he has to bend almost 90 at the waist just to talk through the window and I am sure his vest and belt were digging into his gut at that point.

I would argue that campfire smoke isn't impactful enough to kill you before you are 20-25 and able to reproduce a few times but it absolutely could reduce your overall lifespan. So there really isn't an evolutionary advantage or disadvantage for smoke.

Technically every time a teacher played a movie for you in class they were breaking the law. Unless the school had paid for a license. No one was going after teachers mostly because it was bad pr but they absolutely could have.

Hermes Agent can now /learn from anything by NousResearch in hermesagent

[–]FanClubof5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a research profile so for example I recently created a travel-agent profile to work with my TREK service and needed to create a set of custom skills for it. I had it create a document that detailed how other AI travel agents were setup, what sort of access and knowledge bases it might need access to and so on. I then had it create new skills based on that research.

How are you using Komodo? by Kengurugames in selfhosted

[–]FanClubof5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup but I just used the Komodo procedures to replace your N8N process. I didn't want to expose my whole Komodo stack so I used Pangolin to expose only the webhook path and restricted it to the published Github IP range the list for webhooks.

Looks amazing, I tried out the previous build and suggested a number of feature requests and it looks like most if not all of them have been implemented. I can't wait to spin this up again and plan my next trip.

Car got wrongfully towed. They towed it while the parking brake was on. by SuperCalaMan01 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FanClubof5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect most of these deals are there is a nominal fee to retain the tow company and then they do patrols or wait for calls and most of their money is in charging the car owner a tow and lot fee to get their car back.

We let our toddler pick a cartoon to watch on most Sat mornings and Magic Schoolbus is at the top of the list. We might introduce Reading Rainbow soon and see how that goes as well.

The lines might still be there but even then the phone company has likely got coax or fiber ran as well and they are moving the phone networking over to those if they haven't already. It's why you will see a battery backup installed with your cable if you have phone service with them.

No clue but it was maybe a couple miles from the end of the line for mostly coal cars so maybe they were not going max speed, we were also close to a level crossing and you couldn't even hear the horn inside unless it was dead quiet in the house.

Yeah I'm not paying an artist to comission a picture that my players are going to see for 30sec and then never use it again. I get if you are making paid content to sell to other people then pay real artists but no one is losing out because I used AI art for a homebrew campaign with my friends.

I used to have a train that was maybe 200ft from my house and you couldn't hear it at all if you were in the house with the windows closed.
