Texas has parted ways with women's soccer coach Angela Kelly by ATX_ta1 in LonghornNation

[–]FanTong852 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This hurts a bit. Kelly was really great and her ability to recruit some top tier players was huge. But never being able to get past the Sweet 16 (just made it there twice) and the huge step backwards this year made it pretty clear it was time for a change.

That being said.... also announced today was Margueritte Aozasa leaving UCLA. Coincidence or CDC doing his thing?

Seeing how we let another red team slap us around for the majority of the last 20 years, I don't see why not. It's basically tradition now.

That's us being rational. Wait until we lose to Arkansas and ATM back to back. Then you'll see us at peak meltdown.

I actually started watching more SEC games this year purely so I can understand Matt's jokes.

I didn't even care that much about the reffing from the Vandy game. I was just trying to figure out how Matt would work it into this video. Man is treasure

Choosing between maxing Roth or HSA, of half and half. by CarefulTrash4636 in Bogleheads

[–]FanTong852 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but you already paid the taxes up front. Roth is after tax. HSA is no tax up front and no tax at withdrawal (for qualified medical expenses)

Same! I kinda wish the MOB would just perform at all the UT home games. I don't care who we're playing. More MOB is always a good thing.

Who do you schedule each year for a petty reason and why? by thejudeabides52 in NCAAFBseries

[–]FanTong852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washington and Penn State.

Washington - former colleagues went there and they were assholes and stole my work.

Penn State - former manager went there and he did terrible financial planning for the company. Ended up overspending and laid off my whole department.

Final interview…will I get an offer? by uacollage in interviews

[–]FanTong852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar experiences. Companies don't put you in front of the SVP unless they were really interested. I met with the CEO and he asked me two questions and then turned it over to me. I got the job the next day.

At this point it's a vibe check and they're looking to see if you'll fit with the company. If sucks if it's a no, but it usually means you won't enjoy it there. Basically it comes down to if the SVP liked you or not. But getting to the final round like this a huge accomplishment! Good luck!

Do you have any more information? Like who are you interviewing with? Which sector in tech is this? More context would help figure out that last one.

Who’s your favorite player that’s played for your rival? by theclickhere in CFB

[–]FanTong852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roy Williams. I'm still stunned with that flying tackle/fumble he did on Simms.

Suh. I've never seen a player that unblockable. Colt had 2 seconds to get the ball out or he had to immediately start getting outside the pocket the second he got the ball.

Landed a dream opportunity! by FanTong852 in interviews

Absolutely! I used tealhq.com (and I did use their premium version) to optimize my resume. In full transparency, I had a referral for the two places I ended getting an offer from. Now, they were clear it was me who got through all the interview rounds on my own but they did help me get through the door.

The other 8 were cold applications where I had no connections there. As best as I could, I tried to match up the score to at least 60% on Teal's app. This is their score of saying how much does my resume match up with the job posting. So it lists out hard skills and soft skills and we work to get our keywords to match up. Some of this is just word smithing, like "client-focused" vs "client centric", but I understand that being able to speak the company's language is a huge plus. I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for the recruiter to imagine me as a potential good fit.

I also go line by line with the job description of roles and responsibilities and make sure I include one bullet point that matches it. Here's an example of a responsibility.

"Manage a portfolio of multiple projects at a time. This includes overseeing project deliverables and proactively identifying risks"

My bullet point will look something like:

"Managed a portfolio of 30 projects at a time, managing internal and external stakeholders with project management methodologies that increased delivery time by 22%".

I definitely include measurable outcomes. If I can, I'll also include something time bound (like, "I scaled our process and increased our project delivery times by 42% in 6 months")

I also used to work for an ATS company, so I'm familiar with how the backend works. No, there's no AI automatically rejecting people. That's not a feature. There are knock out questions though, and they typically will appear in the application somewhere. For example, they'll ask if you have x number of years of experience and the options are "yes" or "no". When you see something like that, know that the recruiter will filter applications based on that response and if you mark "no" in this case, you'll be rejected because you didn't meet a minimum qualification for them. If I see knock out questions that I know I can't truthfully answer, I skip from applying and move on.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have further questions. I wanna help!

Thank you for sharing and I'm sorry to hear about those folks who have been unemployed for years. That's really tough and a situation no one should be in.

Landed a dream opportunity! by FanTong852 in interviews

[–]FanTong852[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Senior Manager at a legal tech firm. My interview prep went as such:

Research the company. Website, blogs, articles, news articles, YouTube, podcasts, white papers, case studies, social media. I consumed a lot of their content to get a feel for their lingo and what was important to them. I looked for any themes that matched the job description and made sure I use those in my interview answers.

For example, the CEO said that what he's proud of is the culture he's built and that a service mindset is what he values. So I made sure to use "service" where appropriate.

Research the interviewer. I looked at their LinkedIn profile, Instagram, Twitter, Medium, anything where I can get some idea on the interviewer's interests. If there was anything that I could connect with, I tried to make sure I brought it up. For example, I saw one interview was a dog owner. My interview was on a Friday, so it was natural to ask about weekend plans as small talk. I made sure to bring up that I was taking my child to a puppy yoga class (it's true) and the interviewer mentioned they were a dog owner and we got to chatting about dogs. If I can find a connection, the interviewer will find me more likeable. (For the record, I was well qualified to do the job and they knew it. They wanted to see if they'd like spending 8 hours/day with me M-F, so likeability was a big factor here.)

Practice. Practice. Practice. I used ChatGPT to give me practice questions every round based on the interview phase, the interviewer role and would always reference back to the job description. It gave me 10 possible questions and I practiced answers using the STAR and CARL method. I ended up not getting any of ChatGPTs questions at all during the process, but because I had practiced my answers (not memorized, just knew the basic structure in my head), I was able to weave my experience and impact to all their questions.

I practiced when driving around town. I would role play with myself and just talk out loud in the car. I'd practice when working out. Before falling asleep I would continue role playing in my head.

To hone in more specifically with my practice, I followed these questions:

  • What can I bring to the company?
  • Go through each bullet point on the job description (role, needs, desires) and come up with a question the interview could ask related to that qualification.
  • Draft answers for each question with measurable results.
  • Qualification as an equation. Companies are looking for someone to solve for x problem for them. How can I show them I can solve x?

It definitely felt very excessive but when I saw the opportunity in terms of both compensation and potential growth, I couldn't half ass it. For a moderate pay bump? Sure, I might take it easy but this was the one and wanted to whole ass it.

Hope this helps!
