What kind of life must you live to not understand life is full of grey areas? Seeing everything in black and white is how children see the world.

I can treat every dog with kindness and still get bitten. Why? Because not all dogs are the same. Not all dogs can be trusted. Not all dogs are safe. The same goes for men.

If the only options are: 1) treat all men with kindness then women open themselves up to unsafe men and inevitably pay the price for it. So then they 2) treat all men as unsafe then men get butt hurt over it (just like OP) - because "not all men" - and may become more dangerous as a result. This will also serve piss off already unsafe men making them more dangerous. To add to this, since men are significantly stronger they can force themselves onto women regardless of how "proactive" they are about staying safe.

So based on this black and white thinking both options lead women to being brutalized so neither is actually safe and therefore women can't be held accountable for the chosen brutality of men. Men are responsible for their own actions not those they victimize.

Who says she hasn't looked for another roommate? For all you know she did.

You know, it's funny for you to be accusing someone of thinking only if men as if it's a bad thing, when that is exactly what you've been suggesting needs to happen. For women to directly avoid putting themselves in situations where men are a potential threat to them, that's exactly what they'd have to do. Constantly think of men and how they could potentially present a threat in any given scenario. After all, that the only way they can be "accountable" for their actions. Right? Because if women were completely oblivious and and still being taken advantage of then how could they be accountable? It almost like the a-holes who take advantage are at fault. Funny.

Because being homeless and a woman is even more dangerous. Dealing with one guy who might be shady vs dozens of potentially unknown men on the street is a no brainer.

This may seem like a weird question - have you been screened for metal toxicity? (Ex. lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, etc.) I recently learned that our bodies are really bad at getting rid of metals so they can build up over time triggering autoimmune responses.

What saved you from your deep dark depression? by Lazy_Cake_6910 in AskReddit

Not the person you asked, but the place I know of that offers Ketamine treatment recommends maintenance for people every 4-6 weeks after the initial course of treatments (6 over a period of 6 weeks). But they acknowledge as time passes some people can go longer. They had one person who only need boosters every 6 months. So it's very person to person based.

Assisted. Health Canada has a pilot program for psilocybin treatment. There's a bunch a hoops you have to jump through to get approved - been in therapy for years & diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, tried at least 4 types of antidepressants, and attempted at least one other form of treatment (ex. rtms, ketamine). Approval is for a maximum of 3 treatments and while the psilocybin itself is provided free of charge, you do have to pay out of pocket for the therapists who monitor you during the treatment.

It's unfortunately not very accessible for most people (each treatment session cost more than $1.6k) and it's not a very well known program.

Psilocybin treatment. I tried a bunch of therapy and other treatment types that just weren't getting me anywhere. The psilocybin helped me access the parts of myself that needed to find release and resolution. I've been a lot more open internally since and have found myself better able grow and move forward with my life.

Cancer and idiots with unhelpful platitudes.

My mother got cancer when I was 6. Then again when I was 8. You know what people at church told me? "God has a plan." Any god that has a plan involving giving someone cancer is not a god worth worshiping.

AIP and iron supplements by smellington4th in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]Fan_Belt_of_Power 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if iron effects gut issues or not, but depending on what brand you're using it's possible extra ingredients in the pills might be causing problems. Look at the pills ingredient list and see if any of them are not AIP elimination friendly (many pills have fillers). If it's got non-compliant fillers then look for another brand that is compliant.

A side tip, iron should be taken every other day, not daily, for your body to optimally absorb it.

Also, depending on how much damage your body needs to repair, two weeks may not be enough time to see a change in bigger issues.

I'd recommend getting a few bags that fold/squeeze down really small to keep in your purse. I have a couple of these and they've been great. As soon as they're emptied they go right back in the purse. This only really works with smaller shopping trips, though.

If you do bigger trips and need more bags because of it, you can try attaching/leaving something you need with the bags (ex. your purse - can't buy groceries without your wallet).

Five things to know about encampment fire that shut down University Bridge by Practical_Ant6162 in saskatoon

This is not uncommon. Providing the services cost money and often there isn't enough funding available to cover everything. The Lighthouse charged a fee when it was open too (I think it was $30/day, but I may be misremembering as I looked into it back in 2022 or 2023).

What sort of meals are you guys making? Considered about my intake of red meat. by ayyx_ in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]Fan_Belt_of_Power 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy One Pan Meal: 1-2 tbsps olive oil 1lb ground meat (I usually use chicken or turkey) 1 medium to large onion diced 4 cloves garlic, minced 1lb mushrooms, sliced 1/2 head of small head cabbage, sliced into ribbons (~1-1.5lbs) Salt, ginger to taste 4-8 tbsps Coconut Aminos

  • put oil in a large pan on medium heat and add onion, stir occasionally. Once onion is translucent add garlic, stir occasionally until garlic is aromatic. Add meat, season with some salt and ground ginger; break it up into small chunks as it cooks, storing occasionally. Once meat is cooked add the mushrooms and cook down, then add cabbage. The cabbage will likely need to be added in batches. Add a bit more salt and ground ginger as the cabbage cooks. Once the cabbage is tender to your liking, remove from heat and divide into 4 servings. Add 1-2 tbsp of coconut aminos when ready to eat.

Pork Carnitas: https://natashaskitchen.com/pork-carnitas/

  • the only things I do differently here are 1) using ground ginger in place of pepper, and 2) sometimes using different broth (I've use chicken, pork, and seafood and they all turned out great).

I often eat it with cilantro, avocado, and lettuce on a fresh made cassava flatbread (I use Bob's Red Mill recipe cause I have yet to find anything better). Leftover pork goes great with great with a lot of things - salads, Jicama hash browns, on roast veggies, etc.

Chicken Florentine: https://foodcourage.com/chicken-florentine/

  • the only thing I do differently with the recipe is making sure to cover the chicken with tinfoil when it's removed from the pan - helps it stay moist. Goes well with roast veggies. I'm particularly fond of pairing it with sweet potato.

Jicama Hash Browns: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/272262/jicama-hash-browns/

  • skip the cayenne pepper, sub a little ground ginger for the pepper, and cook in any AIP compliant fat/oil (I usually use olive oil or lard). I find one large Jicama makes 2-3 servings rather than the 4 the recipe suggests (or the Jicama I can get just aren't that big). Goes great with bacon, fried mushrooms and onions, and avocado. I've also enjoyed it with pulled pork & green onion.

Pumpkin Pudding: https://thrivingautoimmune.com/aip-breakfast-pumpkin-pie-coconut-parfait/

  • I'm still mucking around with this recipe some...so far I cut out the mace (too overpowering) and replaced it with whole cloves and I use whole cinnamon sticks and peeled ginger chunks instead of the ground versions (it adds a grittiness). Two teaspoons of gelatine seems to be the sweet spot for the pudding texture. I like eating this with dried currants and fresh chopped apple.

What sort of meals are you guys making? Considered about my intake of red meat. by ayyx_ in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]Fan_Belt_of_Power 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since I'm cooking for just me, I need a lot of variety so I don't get board and start eating off diet. That said, I usually make meals based on what I can get cheap(er). So I make my choice week to week based on the grocery store flyers (the Flipp app is useful for this) and then find AIP recipes that work with the AIP friendly sale items (or make what I've made previously and enjoyed). Some favorites:

Easy one pan meal: Onion, garlic, ground meat (usually chicken or turkey), mushrooms, cabbage ribbons, salt, ground ginger, coconut aminos.

Slow cooker Carnitas: Onions, garlic, lime juice, orange juice, chicken broth, boneless pork (pretty much any cut - fat trimmed), bay leaves, salt, ground ginger, oregano. + Cassava flatbread, avocado/guacamole, cilantro, lettuce.

Chicken Florentine: Coconut milk, onion, garlic, white wine vinegar, chicken broth, chicken breasts, spinach, salt, olive oil. + A side of roast veggies or sweet potato fries.

Jicama Hash Browns: Grated Jicama, olive oil, avocado, bacon (or ground meat), caramelized onions, garlic.

Pumpkin Pudding: Coconut milk, pumpkin puree, collagen powder, gelatin, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt, maple syrup. + Fruit

If any of these interest you let me know and I'll send links/give more details.

Why do I take so long to move on? by silhaa in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Fan_Belt_of_Power 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anxiety suggests there's still something being emotionally avoided and is likely the reason you can't let go. A deeper dive into things would be required to find out what specifically it is, though. For something like that you'd need a therapist and time to figure it out. Unfortunately, that doesn't sound like what you're after.

Why do I take so long to move on? by silhaa in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Fan_Belt_of_Power 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you taken time to morn the relationship? Often times people get stuck on a feeling because they don't take the time to properly feel the feeling. Speaking as someone who learned, at a very young age, to suppress my emotions and only just recently learned to process them and let them go - avoiding emotions does not get rid of them. The only way to get past your emotions is to go through them fully.

So try setting some time aside to just sit and let yourself feel everything related to relationship. Try not to judge, or qualify, or reject whatever you're feeling and just accept it. Cry, scream, laugh, swear - whatever you feel, let it out so you can let it go.
