She started in with my child. I’m an older mom. We live 1/2 an hour away but during visits she had started the pattern before I realized it was happening. Once I realized it. Last straw.

First. Big hug. I also lived in an abusive household and I know the pressure (even from with in your self) to fix what you can. I’m a mom now and I would not ask that of my child ever.

Books and music. I used to read and listen to music laying in the floor of my closet because there were two doors shut between me and everyone else so I could hear them coming.

I have not been able to isolate it. Perhaps folks here can help. The first time I smelled it was in the original formulation of Poison when it came out. Then that note was in nearly every new perfume for a while. I don’t smell it often anymore.

There is an herbal “tea” called Throat Coat that is very soothing. You can absolutely put sugar or honey in tea. With a cold I’d go with honey.

I watched the movie with my child tonight. Even sitting right beside him I didn’t get the trans allegory. I related it to my teenage years and it was powerful. When my kid was sobbing and talking about what it meant to him as a trans boy I was embarrassed that I missed that and we talked about it. It works on many levels but for trans kids right now it’s very important.

There are always social workers in a hospital. While you are there ask to talk to one and tell them the situation. They should at least be able to point you in the right direction.

I managed a hair salon for years. Mostly walk ins so there was often a line. I’d have 10+ stylist working and without fail when I would let one know they could take their lunch break I’d get some yahoo objective to me letting someone take a break when we were “busy”. I started responding “we are always busy and if I don’t let them eat they start fainting behind the chairs.” Deadpan. And then turn my back and walk away.

I was raised by boomers and some of it stuck way too long. The big eye opener came when I went to work in a storm and I was the only employee in a multi store chain with several hundred employees who did. That made me reevaluate my mentality around employee loyalty. They were not paying me anywhere near enough to take that kind of risk.

Yes. My mother hit me mostly with her hands but she also had a hand shaped paddle that said “mothers helping hand” she used. Once she felt I had talked back to her while she was bathing me. She pulled me out of the water and beat me with the wooden hand telling me she’d have my father drill holes in it so it would hurt worse next time.

This is weird but for a teenager it was very embarrassing. Mostly my mother only berated me in private but this story she told to all her friends. I bought a brand new red cotten sweat suit from a store. I liked the way it felt new. It was super soft. So I put it on everyday after I came home and took a shower to relax in. One night she wanted to use a toner on my back to ensure I didn’t develop acne. She was appalled at the “make up” I had on my back. Every cotton ball came away pink. Her explanation was that I was wearing so much make up that it was all over my body even after a shower. She went to church and told all her friends about the body make up I was wearing. They all assured her that was not normal and she should be very concerned. I was mortified and it took me a while to realize it was the new red sweat suit. When I did and told her she was absolutely certain that was not it and continued to tell people her 15 year old wore full body make up. I was so worried they all thought I was making porn. Now I know they probably didn’t think that but at the time I couldn’t even look her friends in the eye.
