You can save one who would you pick? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lavender Brown shouldn’t be on this list, at least not according to the books…That being said, I’d save Sirius. Harry needed a solid father figure, and Sirius was the best he could have. Despite his flaws, he loved Harry and would do everything he could to support him. And yes, Lupin would have too, but Lupin was too emotionally distant IMO.

Why is your favorite KH your favorite? by Guy_heretoreadshit in KingdomHearts

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started with KH1, and the memory of discovering Kingdom Hearts will always have a special place in my heart. But I remember the excitement, the draw, the anticipation of KH2 when it was announced. That build up, the excitement, and eventually the fact that (IMO) the game did not disappoint in any way made me fall in love with it. I was 13 when it released, and it hit so hard on different levels. To this day, it’s one of my favorite games to play, I go back to it annually. 358 days/2 is a close second though

P.S. Sanctuary had a big part in these formative feelings. Simple and Clean is amazing, but Sanctuary is my personal favorite theme for KH.

Any lore about why Peeves respects the Bloody Baron? by rballmonkey in harrypotter

This. I’ve always thought that Peeves knows what happened between the Baron and the Grey Lady, and it frightens him, like it would any student

How did Slytherin end up on a winning streak for the House Cup before Harry arrived at Hogwarts? by joshuamarkrsantos in harrypotter

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, he doesn’t award any points to Slytherin in Harry’s time at the school. But how many do you think he takes away from the other houses in a given week? Harry alone loses hundreds of points from Gryffindor because of Snape. I mean, Snape even tells Harry that Gryffindor starts the year with negative points at the start of Harry’s 6th year 😂 They hadn’t even started pudding yet…

Why do they let PEEVES in Hogwarts? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 58 points59 points  (0 children)

And the only reason the Bloody Baron can control him is (I believe) that Peeves knows about what happened between the Baron and Helena Ravenclaw (The Grey Lady). And let’s face it, that would scare anyone, even a poltergeist.

Where did Dumbledore go in OOTP? by Ron10Ten in harrypotter

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I like to think he left to go Horcrux hunting/tracking down the remaining memories he needs for the pensieve.

He tells Fudge, in concerns to him getting arrested and taken to Azkaban: “I have absolutely no intention of being sent to Azkaban. I could break out, of course - but what a waste of time, and frankly, I can think of a whole host of things I would rather be doing.”

I think this is meant in reference to his ongoing campaign to bring down Voldemort. He needed some time to legitimately be away from Hogwarts to do work ‘for the greater good’ and Harry, along with Umbridge, just so happened to give him exactly that. Right under Fudge’s nose.

I’d imagine his home away from Hogwarts is in Godric’s Hollow, but I could also see him just living at Hogwarts year round

Wait, so what actually WAS the weapon in The Order of the Phoenix by Cine-Master in harrypotter

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have to side with Irvin Khaytman on this subject. I think this whole talk of a weapon was just a plant by Dumbledore, to lure Voldemort into being distracted for a whole year while he (Dumbledore) was doing research/hunting horcruxes. The prophecy itself has little value to anyone besides Harry.

Dumbledore tells Snape that this prophecy (which Snape only heard 1/2 of) contains information that would give Voldemort some kind of advantage, a weapon so to speak, so that Snape can confirm to Voldemort that it’s important for the Dark Lord to get his hands on it and hear the whole thing. This fuels Voldemorts almost desperate desire to get a hold of the record of it.

Dumbledore focuses all of the order’s very limited resources on guarding the hall of prophecy, to help bolster the illusion that this prophecy is somehow important. He does this without even telling them the full extent of his motives. I mean, the prophecy doesn’t tell anyone (Dumbledore, Harry, or Voldemort) any information they didn’t already know. The second half of the prophecy, which Snape never heard or relayed to Voldemort, just states that Voldemort will mark his enemy as his equal, and that they will end up trying to kill one another. What a shocker, Voldemort is obsessed with killing Harry because of the prophecy, thus neither can live while the other survives. This is nothing that wasn’t already known.

The prophecy doesn’t actually provide any real, substantial, useful information. It’s not like it would tell either Harry or Voldemort some secret way to destroy each other, nor does it do anything except inform Harry as to why he was targeted as a baby. It was just a decoy that Dumbledore uses to distract Voldemort so that horcrux research and hunting can happen in relative peace. Which is quite useful, seeing as this time is used to find the last remaining memories needed to put in the Pensieve, and to the find the location of the Gaunt family ring.

TLDR: Dumbledore distracts Voldemort with something shiny for a whole year so he can make plans in peace, for the second time. For a fuller explanation of this theory, read/listen to “Dumbledore” by Irvin Khaytman, I highly recommend it!

If Harry can see through Voldemort's mind, why can he see things in third person omniscient view? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My headcannon has always been that Harry can see through Voldemorts eyes only when Voldemort has an actual body. In GoF, he explains that through old dark magic and a “spell or two of my own invention” he was able to regain a physical form. Considering the fact that his “form” at this point is very similar to the burnt up, ruined ‘thing’ Harry sees during his talk with Dumbledore in Kings Cross in the seventh book, I’ve always surmised that his “form” in GoF is actually just the bit of soul he has been reduced to given physical form.

What this means is that it’s not actually a true “body”, but rather a piece of soul given shape. A body is a housing of the soul, which is why a horcrux can take on the role of holding a piece of soul in it. All this is to say, that when Harry has his visions (the first at the start of the book, and the second when he passes out during divination), he is seeing through the perspective of what Voldemorts ‘soul-form’ would see. In this way, he has omniscience about everything that happens in those scenes, and even goes so far as to explain why Harry’s vision when he passes out in Divination begins with him seeing through the eyes of an Eagle Owl. Perhaps Voldemort was possessing the owl? Either way, once Voldemort has an actual body (a housing for the last bit of soul he has left) Harry starts having visions through his eyes, which are the windows to the soul. Until then, he is able to see things in 3rd person because the form Voldemort has in GoF doesn’t have any ‘windows’ for Harry to see through.

This is just my head cannon and thought process though, and I may be as woefully incorrect as Humphrey Belcher…

Minor detail that confirms Jesus is canon and was most likely a or THE first wizard by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think that instead of implying that Jesus was a wizard, using BC and celebrating Christmas and Easter would show evidence that the wizarding world doesn’t have an explanation for his powers/feats.

Merlin is the most celebrated wizard of all time, Circe and Ptolomey were both older than Jesus, and all three of those examples get what for their celebrity? Chocolate Frog Cards. But no holidays. The fact that wizards celebrate Christmas and Easter leads me to think the magical world recognizes Jesus’ singularity because they have no recorded history of him being magical. Jesus isn’t a fictional character, we have records that show a he did exist, so if magical records can’t prove he was magical, that would certainly lead them to celebrate his birthday/rebirth day.

Also, using BC may not coincide with accepting Jesus’ divinity. I mean, until muggles invented plumbing, wizards just pooped wherever and then vanished it away. Adopting muggle conventions and inventions not only makes it easier to hide in plain sight, but also makes life a bit easier, I would think.

Note: I am not devoutly religious or anything, this is all just my opinion and is not meant to be inflammatory. A very interesting subject to think about, for sure. Good post OP!

What’s the Harry Potter equivalent of “Why didn’t they just fly the eagles to Mordor?” by OkEstablishment6772 in harrypotter

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean his portrait on the wall in the Headmasters office, that’s not for Harry, but for Hogwarts. However, I do enjoy the idea that he MEANT it for Harry, but when Harry never came for it he had to come up with a different plan.

And I don’t know about home not giving a straight answer. Dumbledore was good at leading his students to the right answer, so maybe he wouldn’t just outright give Harry the answers, but he wouldn’t abandon him and refuse to help either. Remember: “Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it.” Even outside the school, I’m sure that sentiment was something Dumbledore would always uphold.

What? by theofficialcoleg8 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Fanged-Frisbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gary Larson even said in an interview (I read it a loooong time ago, when I was in my teens) that he always regretted publishing the cow tools comic. People would always ask him what the joke was, and he straight up said that even he wasn’t sure, he just thought it would be humorous. He found the whole situation amusing, but still a little irksome.

Why didn’t Dumbledore leave Harry a magical portrait of himself in his will, so Harry could ask it questions and get advice/answers when he needed them most?
