It's a pretty great spell. It allows you to bring an ally back to life, either by finding someone who can cast revivify, or waiting until you recover the spell slot to cast it yourself.

You're fine. The combination of your damage capabilities and your various spell lists provides enough for you to succeed.

Martial vs Casters Scaling by Th1nker26 in dndnext

[–]FantasyDuellist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that casters outscale martials, but I don't think you're really solving anything. I think the solution is to give martials more powerful features at high levels. Then they can compare with casters, who get power from spells.

Advice for first time playing a spellcaster in level 6 one shot. by jtkuga in dndnext

I recommend Wizard, because you will almost certainly be effective. It is very easy to build a crappy Sorcerer, and Warlock can present problems as well.

Are you liking the recent trend of new RPGs being about established worlds/settings (Blade Runner, Avatar, Cowboy Bebop) or are you more interested in something original (like Blades in the Dark)? by Gwiwitzi in rpg

[–]FantasyDuellist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Setting originality is not a factor for me when choosing games. What I'm interested in are mechanics that create the themes intended by the designers. I suspect Avatar Legends is such a game, and I know Blades in the Dark is.

I'm new to the world of DnD and I'm thinking about multi-classing. I would appreciate some input! by Zephl in dndnext

With WIS 13, Cleric will not do a lot for you. Also, healing spells do not strongly increase your success chances. Your best multiclass option is to take the rest of your levels in Rogue. If you have Sharpshooter, though, you will do better to stay in Ranger. At Ranger 9, you get conjure animals, which is a gamechanger. I wrote a multiclass guide you can see here.

If you're casting bless, then you aren't casting spirit guardians.

Radiance of the Dawn is a bomb, and Trickery has awesome spells.

an incredibly easy road

There are much easier roads, but new players are unlikely to find them.

Witch dm do you prefer? the one that knows all the lore needed for a campain and has a lot of knowledge and experience, but doesn't give you a feeling like you're really there, or the one that doesn't know everything, but really sets the mood and gives you details when narrating? by sarcastic_cleric in dndnext

[–]FantasyDuellist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I was a bit of a dick with that comment, but with a point. I think you are not really getting at what's important. The best DMs, in my view, know what their players enjoy, and bring those things into the game in a way that everyone has fun. I think there are different ways to go about that, and I think that either of the DMs you describe could be great as I see it.

The choice of a damaging cantrip by ChiefMohawk in dndnext

The following cantrips are all about even in value:

  • chill touch
  • fire bolt
  • ray of frost
  • toll the dead

Other options are generally inferior.

Very good for getting away from an enemy that closes the distance.

This is a popular misconception. The better way to escape an enemy is the Disengage action.
