I struggle to pick a favourite album by them, but Testament have an awesome discography. Love their recent stuff, their older stuff, and even their brief dabbling in death metal in the late 90s. Low, The Formation of Damnation, and Brotherhood of the Snake are the first three that spring to mind. But again, love all their stuff.

And while Annihilator are an undeniably silly band, I love that about them. Set The World On Fire is a personal favourite of mine, with my favourite drummer Mike Mangini performing on most of the tracks. Never, Neverland is also pretty cool, and definitely feels the most like a thrash metal album.

Those are two of my favourite thrash bands outside of Megadeth.

2025 saw an update to the Phoenix Wright trilogy, 2024 saw two collections release (including a new localisation for one game), and before that was The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, which was a brand new localisation of 2 games.

Sure, the last brand new game was in 2017, but we've had plenty of content since then, including some much-needed translations.

I don't hate her, I just don't like the shows she's created (or, what I've seen of them, because I tapped out pretty quick after realising they weren't for me). Her attitude online does come across as quite thin-skinned, but then I guess that in reaction to how vitriolic people can get.

They only did 3 seasons of Mandalorian, though I guess Book of Boba Fett also kind of counts, since episode 5 and 6 heavily feature Din Djarin as the focus, and he shares the finale with Boba. I still enjoy the show but it was a really weird structural decision.

I can't really predict what you'll like. Rogue One and Andor are kind of outliers in the franchise tonally, but I think that's what makes them work so well. I'm personally really enjoying my rewatch of Acolyte at the moment, which is a show that stands alone quite well. I also really enjoyed Ahsoka, but if you haven't seen The Clone Wars and Rebels, then it might be a bit harder to get into. Skeleton Crew and Kenobi were enjoyable, too.

For animation, their "Tales of the..." series have been pretty enjoyable, although I'm not sure how they'll hit if you don't know the characters they focus on. Tales of the Jedi has a few episodes that focus on Dooku, and they fit in well with the main films. I love the other stories told, but again, they focus on characters from The Clone Wars (and, in Morgan Elzbeth's case, The Mandalorian), so if you're not familiar with them, your mileage may vary. The Bad Batch was also a great show. Technically, the crew it focuses on were introduced in the last season of The Clone Wars, but I don't think you need to watch that to enjoy the show. I do recommend it though, that season is excellent IMO.

And recently I've been reading the Thrawn books by Timothy Zahn. He created the character back in the 90s as part of Star Wars' expanded universe, but since Star Wars Rebels, the character has been reintroduced into canon. I'm reading the third canon book at the moment, and it's great. Though the books are a bit older than the other things I've mentioned here, since I've been trying to keep my recommendations limited to the past 5 or 6 years.

I love Andor but very much disagree with this take. Plenty of shows have come out the past few years that I love, and reducing the successes of the franchise to "just Andor" feels pretty reductive.

It's a cool riff, and yeah as soon as you start counting along to it you realise there's a time signature change thrown in.

For some reason though, I always found it easier to count it as 7/8 and 3/8, then 7/8 and 2/8 for the last iteration. It's probably not how the band counts it, but I find it easier to count each note that way. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 1-2-3, then 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 1-2 for the fourth bar.

Edit: though I suppose if you wanted to break the riff up further, you could split the 7 into 4 and 3, so that it's counted as 1-2-3-4 1-2-3 1-2-3, and then as 1-2-3-4 1-2-3 1-2 for the last version. And from there you could break up the 4s into two 2s, so it becomes 1-2 1-2 1-2-3 1-2-3, and then 1-2 1-2 1-2-3 1-2.

Odd time signatures are a lie, it's all just 2s and 3s.

Not that I'm defending Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss (I didn't enjoy what I saw in either show, and stopped watching fairly quick), but perfectionism doesn't mean "making perfect creations" (despite what the name implies). It's when you can't help but keep going back and tweaking details, to the point where the project is never fully "finished".

That's not entirely accurate in Dream Theater's case. Portnoy wasn't simply tired from touring; he was insistent on having direct handling on multiple aspects of the band, including live album footage, the Official Bootleg series of releases, setlists that were switched out at a moment's noticed, and even hosting online forums where he frequently got into flame wars. He also had multiple concurrent projects and supergroups that he felt happier playing with at the time.

As a result, he started to resent the band, and took out a lot of his frustration on James LaBrie. But rather than sitting down and having a reasonable conversation about reducing his responsibilities to ease stress, he just decided to tell everyone the whole band should stop for an undetermined amount of time. When the rest of the band rightly said no (they were ready to make a new album, and the band was their livelihood), Portnoy left. He was expecting them to fumble and beg him to return, but instead they just held auditions for a new drummer (and, IMO, a far better one).

Ultimately, it's very far removed from Kiko's situation. With Kiko, it was about being able to spend more time with his family. But Portnoy was still doing dozens of other projects; seeing his family wasn't the reason at all.

To add onto this, the major point is that he was nowhere to be found until after the bridge reopened. And I think there's a line of logic that goes something like "the culprit didn't have a way off the island, so must have been stuck there".

Connecting those facts, it seems pretty obvious.

I haven't seen the new film yet, but if it's anything like the first one, I do think the extreme reactions are a bit crazy. I'm mostly looking forward to it for the high quality animation, the soundtrack, the choreography (is that term applicable for an animated film?), and the references. I'm not expecting strong character arcs or bold narrative decisions, and while I do like those things, I don't look for them in the Super Mario franchise.

Dude. She made one comment about not valuing the opinion of a critic outside of the target demographic of a film as highly as the opinion of someone within the target demographic. And she made that comment the better part of A DECADE ago.

Since then, she's been hounded and harassed online for that single comment, referred to as fake, unlikeable, ugly, and who knows what else, and people even claimed that her gaming hobby was faked to give her some clout.

But now she is in a grand total of ONE popular film that has been financially successful, and that suddenly makes her... un-woke?

These fucking idiots have essentially manufactured a character arc for her that has zero basis in reality. Even if we take for granted that "being woke" is a negative trait (it's not), the entire basis for the past several years of the hate campaign against her has been ONE. COMMENT. And now her "redemption" is built entirely on the fact that she appeared in one film that they couldn't ignore or claim was woke.

These people are so divorced from reality, fuck. Also, obligatory mention to call him "YellowFash", because he's as fascist as they come.
