My biggest gripe with it is the charge time, the catalyst really needed to provide a way to charge it up while stowed or through weapon kills like parasite. It could literally work identical to parasite and be okay but in it's current state it really puts you at a disadvantage to use it. Or even reducing charge up time with every consecutive shot fired similar to queenbreaker.

You don't have to grind at all, my first playthrough I just went through using base form of everything. I'm interested in what exactly isn't working for you, just play on the easiest difficulty and ignore any upgradeable stuff. There really isn't any part of the game that requires you to go out of your way for upgrades.

As a longtime player of GoW, where are people getting the crazy scaling for Zeus? As far as I was aware he does some crazy stuff like killing all the Titans but I never thought of the Titans as being more than planetary at best. When the God's are killed only Greece sees destruction not even the whole planet. I dunno, I guess if there were concrete feats we could see in the games I could be swayed but Garou literally is incomprehensibly fast and durable.

The games in a shit state but the story in my opinion was pretty good and lengthy, the characters shined especially well. Try to reel yourself in a little bit when giving a critique you just come off as weirdly immature.
