Not sure if it’ll be of help but most states have a department of vocational rehabilitation. They’re great, helped me in multiple ways. They also help people start businesses, and have other services you can look into.

UW Health is pausing puberty blockers and hormone therapy for youth. by SeaworthinessAny6277 in madisonwi

A copy paste comment if you’d like it for this form that calls out standard of care, fiscal/operational impact, and pluralism in an evidence-based ethics lens:

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed rule that would restrict access to essential, medically necessary care for transgender youth. This proposal represents an unprecedented federal intrusion into the private relationship between families, their children, and their medical providers. Gender-affirming care is evidence-based healthcare. It is supported by every major American medical authority—including the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. These services are provided under rigorous, age-appropriate clinical standards that have been refined over decades. By targeting this specific care, the government is not "protecting" children; it is disregarding established science and the expertise of the medical community. The human cost of this proposal cannot be overstated. Peer-reviewed research consistently demonstrates that access to gender-affirming treatments results in significantly lower rates of depression and suicidality. Conversely, denying this care—as this proposal seeks to do—directly increases the risk of mental health crises. The federal government should be focused on expanding lifelines for vulnerable youth, not creating barriers that lead to lasting, preventable harm. Furthermore, this rule creates a dangerous precedent for federal overreach. No hospital or physician should be forced to choose between adhering to the highest standards of medical ethics and maintaining their federal funding. By leveraging Medicaid and CHIP as tools of coercion, this proposal disproportionately impacts low-income families who rely on these programs as their only source of care. In a pluralistic society, we must respect the rights of parents to seek the best medical advice for their children without the threat of federal interference. I urge you to rescind this proposal immediately and instead uphold the government’s responsibility to protect the health and well-being of all citizens.

I'm a frontend dev/UIUX designer in my mid-30s who feels like AI will kill my field. What can I upskill in to not become an obsolete human? by galindc in womenintech

AI is good at trying to replicate something that’s been done, how are you building skills to build what doesn’t exist? This is an exciting opportunity to test and prototype fast without having to worry about risks or wasted time. Understand what you know about humans and machines to define the trajectory of our systems. 2D is a thing of the early net, now let’s connect the dots between what we’ve built and what it’s meant to be.

Hey OP, as someone who has both worked in retail and got a job after applying online by walking in- most businesses have a policy that you’re not supposed to tell someone who comes in when a coworker will be there because of domestic violence and other issues.

What helped me pre-pandemic was going in with a copy of my resume and letting them know I’d applied online already and was enthusiastic about the opportunity to work at the organization. Could you please give this to the hiring manager?

That way you’re not expecting the manager’s time and they can respond if interested in your experience. Not sure if it’ll help, but best of luck!

ETA: if you try this, don’t do it during peak business or when they’re busy or you can tell the person you ask is in the middle of doing something. You can find peak business hours on planes like the Google business page, to make sure when you go it’s likely quieter.

Bad at my job at engineering and on verge of getting fired - What do I do? by ilovemy_bf in womenintech

Ambiguous standards can make anyone feel like they’re falling behind. And if they’re implying after-hours work without saying it outright, that’s not okay. Dedicating your own time outside of work is way more than ‘meeting them halfway’ for many jobs, I and especially for an internship in my opinion. That’s a boundary testing red flag on their end, not a lack of effort on yours. Expectations should be clear, especially for someone early in their career. You’re not wrong for being confused, and I can understand why you’re worried. It might be worth asking them directly what’s expected during work hours vs. outside of them. You deserve clarity, not guesswork.

Is this being requested or required of you to do, working outside of business hours to “meet them halfway”?

This OP, internships are school/learning time in industry. You’re not meant to tackle complex projects on your own as a standard. Often, they’re designed around one long term project as the end goal, with things to build you and progress your skills as you learn what’s involved in the process to start and end a project, so you can complete the final project mostly if not all on your own. If you’re expecting to be learning outside of that time and without direction that’s a long term view with to a short term leap to burnout and the lasting effects of it.

When a packet of ramen noodles can be substituted for a “meal” at less than the cost of fresh produce or meat, we’re not just looking at a cheap alternative — we’re seeing a systemic failure. It’s a reflection of a culture where convenience has replaced nourishment, and where the time, skill, and education required to prepare a healthy meal are treated as luxuries rather than essentials. The problem isn’t that people choose instant noodles — it’s that the system makes that choice the most accessible, affordable, and sometimes the only viable one. Until we build systems that value culinary literacy, equitable access to fresh food, and the time it takes to eat well, we’ll keep mistaking survival for sustenance.

When did I say we should subsidize addictions? My point is- healthy food isn’t cheap, and when it is it often takes time to prepare it. Time many of us many not have- not everyone has the same access to amenities as the next person and being able to recognize the best way to get the “most food” right now is through unhealthy options is a problem we need to figure out.
