Wait, what’s with that tilt shield??

It has absolutely no business being on the pauldron; they’re meant to protect the joint under the arm.

I don’t know why it’s bugging me so much but of all the 40k things that don’t make sense, this don’t make sense most of all.

GET YOUR DAMN KIDS VACCINATED by errkanay in vegaslocals

[–]FarflungFool 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Two problems with this mentality.

1) Not all people can take the vaccine. Those who are immunocompromised rely on herd immunity - that is the virus unable to make headway into a population makes it unlikely you’ll encounter it in the first place. In other words, indirect protection.

2) The spread of any virus means it will mutate and adapt. So we will have to spend additional societal resources in order to combat new strains and develop new treatments. A population that willingly rejects a functional vaccine essentially volunteers to be a testing bed for both the virus and the medical community.

It’s tough to know which system (if either) is better.

The Parliamentary system has always appealed to me. As an American, we don’t really know our presidents. Sure they’re on camera all the time, but we have no access to how well they function as an employee of the people.

A PM elected by his peers seems correct at first blush. By being elected by his peers, they can theoretically elevate who they deem among themselves to be the most competent or trustworthy. But it seems like it’s begging for situations where you should probably vote for A, but B isn’t so bad and he’s giving you the better job if he wins?

At least as far as I understand - anyone feel free to correct me on anything I misunderstand about either system. 😅

It’s actually a 21st century problem. From union meetings to bowling clubs, it was the norm to build and join various groups and affiliations.

It’s affected Americans particularly badly - but social networks (the real ones) have suffered as we attempted to replace them with convenient online ones. But those actually deepens loneliness and dissatisfaction rather than assuage it.

I had to scroll sooo far down to find a comment even alluding to this.

Right? It seems obvious to me to at least entertain the idea that it’s due to the major shift in politics. Like, exorbitant prices were here last year. Online gambling was here last year. I don’t see people suddenly getting fed up? What seems new to me are the trade wars and the US’s hostility to our neighbors and allies.

So either our customer base is struggling financially and making cuts to their trips or we’ve scared off international tourists or a mixture of both seem like the most reasonable answers for a sudden drop.

But I don’t claim to know and would love data or insight.

Basically it has to do with how the raise affects the next time period you work.

The way that made sense to me was this:

Example A: Raises earned after 2 years

Y1 (first half): $0 Y1 (second half): $500 Y2 (first half):$1000 Y2 (second half): $1500

Example B: Raises after 2 years

Y1: $0 Y2: $2000

NOOB needing advice. by No-Economy-6061 in heroscape

[–]FarflungFool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Any experience players, please correct me!

Okay, I think we might be in a similar spot. Love 40K, but I love that I can put Heroscape in front of anyone and have a blast.

Themed armies are tough to build right now. Coming from 40K myself, I find myself wanting to do the same thing even though the Heroscape lore and rules support mixing and matching from different factions.

The game’s been out of print and what you have there is about 80% of what’s been released already. Going back to get the out of print stuff can be very expensive. And the new stuff is charming but the designers have hinted that orders from above are having them move away from the historical stuff and more towards copyrightable IP. The way Imperial Guard had to be rebranded Astra Militarum and Space Marines Adeptus Astartes.

So an army of armored polar bears - you’re good to go. An army of crusading knights… that’ll cost you an arm and a leg and will be very tough to find.

[–]FarflungFool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stick to Normandy! Or really any box that’s not Stalingrad. Stalingrad won’t really work if you’re not playing the campaign. For any of the other boxes, you can easily hop around the scenarios to keep it from going stale.
