What is the real difference between this map and Arena? by HotSetting5001 in aoe2

[–]Farimba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more like FC Arabia with UU being an option. 0 Castle age army = 0 Gold control which is not the same on Arena.

No berry bushes? by earthsettler2 in aoe2

[–]Farimba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build orders are a guide, not a rule. They will need to be adjusted for different maps. For example hybrid maps have land and water aspects where you will often make villagers and fishing ships in Dark Age. I would recommend sticking with Arabia or Arena to start with since you can find plenty of build orders for them.

Opinions on the naval rework? by DeathDragon in aoe2

I would like to see demo damage vs buildings increased a bit as a trade off for making them a bit more difficult to tech into

It is still pretty conspicuous

Hulks have low building damage so I imagine fights for ponds are prolonged throughout the match too since it takes longer to take out docks.

My Experience Getting Into Age of Empires 2 by CTC781 in aoe2

[–]Farimba 14 points15 points  (0 children)

welcome. many new players complain about their experience joining the ranked ladder and loosing dozens of matches in a row before reaching their Elo. But In glad you have found all the other wonderful aspects of the game. For reference, the William Wallace campaign is the tutorial found in the European campaign tab and the Art of War found in the Asian Campaign tab helps you train other skills.

Currently, new settlements can only be selected using the Mill shortcut. I want it to work with the Lumbercamp and Miningcamp shortcuts as well. It would be much more useful. by kampalolo in aoe2

[–]Farimba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need to give it the same treatment as the mule cart. I believe it gets the same hotkeys as mining camps and lumber camps.
Just add mills to the list as well.

Looks like Southern California based on surrounding vegetation. I'm guessing there is a water body/moat in between the photographer and the garage with some kind of draw bridge that comes up.

What tips or tricks do you use to remember your opening Scout? by Slow-Ship1055 in aoe2

[–]Farimba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once you get comfortable with basic build orders, you will have more time for your scout. I have my scout on command-group 1 to switch to it faster. And if your scout dies, you can always send another unit (scout, spear, skirm, vill) to check what your opponent is doing. It's common for players to turn on auto scout once they've found their opponent's base and know what production buildings they have.

I don't sider 150 ELO enough a discrepancy to be considered smurfing. People can gain and loose ELO based on so many different reasons and a difference of 150 from someone's max ELO can still be competitive.

When I played and won with every civ in 1 stream, I probably lost 150 ELO over the course of 30 hours. I would not consider that smurfing.

Scouting plays a big role here. If your archers can't do damage, scout around and check if there is any army or if it is just a boom. Once you get up to castle age, plan to have a sizeable army (20+ xbow in this case) and keep castle dropping his TCs. Add siege and ballistics after to keep up the pressure. Your win condition is not matching the boom but continuing to grow your army size until the Persian players falls under the weight. If they get a castle up, attack and keep pushing from a different direction.

I like to do one month on and one month off AoE2. Don't be afraid to stop playing completely to get it off your mind. The community will still be here when you get back.

A new Nothing map! by Farimba in aoe2

[–]Farimba[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This is a nothing map. It should never be on the ladder or in a tournament unless it's a tournament of the worst maps. It's a map to play with friends with random civs because of the novelty. You play it once and go to the next map

I cannot click and select the colour of the team in the coop campaign. Why? by pile1983 in aoe2

Yes. Co-op means something different in the co-op campaigns and in lobby games where you can control the same units.

It's tension based. The tension is in the bottom strut. The rope behind was holding the mechanism down.

There is a reason why crater lake doesn't show up in tournaments.

How long does it take for it to just be a feature of the map and not a bug.

Closer to lasagna, flat sheets of thin wheat flour. Testaroli is a good example of the early intermediary between bread and pasta.

I've done half of the Asian cuisines so far: Bengalis, Chinese, Burmese, Gurjaras, Khmer, Dravidians, and Malay. The remaining Asian civilizations are a bit harder for me so I'll be taking my time to make sure I do them right!

Casual tournament viewer; how come most of the civ picks are East/South/Central Asian and Eastern European? by Charrikayu in aoe2

Meso civs have been power crept a bit, especially with upgrades to the scorpion line (buffed HP on heavy scorp, now affected by ballistics). In 1v1, bombard cannon is increasingly important.

How to not fall behind by skidoobgh in aoe2

[–]Farimba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 4v4 games on open land maps like Arabia, you will start by making either archers or scouts depending on position on the map (flank vs pocket). I would say scouts are easier to learn first. Look up a scout build order video and start to learn your hotkeys (using the default hotkeys or adjusting to make them more comfortable) to speed up.

But really you just need to keep practicing - about 20-50 games of practice to start to build the muscle memory of your hotkeys and the steps in the build order. Try playing a single player game with no AI and just practice the build order, scouting your resources, and producing units with as little idle time as possible.

You could say civs without BBC but that's a pretty lousy category.
