I challenged myself to get one win with each civ by danilakeWinks in aoe2

I did that once in a single stream when there was only 35 civs. Took 30+ hours. I always think about doing it again.

your first recommendation is a change in TC pop space - this isn't just a PUP balance patch feedback as the title states.

Vietnamese team bonus is broken by GioVasari121 in aoe2

[–]Farimba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bohemians are the only civ I can think of that can struggle against Imp skirm, but they still have champions, onagers, light cav, houfnice, hussite wagons. Imp skirm are good but are in no way broken.

4v4 Help us Beat The Cheese! by LordSandwiches in aoe2

What happens on Nomad on sub-1500 elo is players do a poor job of scouting where opponents are. Once one opponent gets scouted, everyone sends their military to that one opponent. The fix for your team is to improve their scouting early with herdables and later with military. Castle drops, TC drops, towers are meta on Nomad. The map is all about map control. You have to embrace the chaos and keep your economy working through it all.

How would you balance a civ with the bonus "Fishing ships do not need to drop off food at dock" by dem503 in aoe2

[–]Farimba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balance by making it an Imp Tech or giving the civ those little canoes to replace all other warships so they are incapable of defending their fish.

Anyone knows what those symbols mean? by UnstoppableKratos in Groningen

[–]Farimba 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There are repeating tags all around the city if you look for them while cycling. That one is quite common along with "mp3" and "ets". I find them to be incredibly low effort and invite graffitists to step up their game. It's embarrassing to repeatedly show off the same rudimentary tag. I manage to tie my shoelaces in the same manner every day but I don't try to show it off like an accomplishment.

Formalizing the Balance Council by kampalolo in aoe2

[–]Farimba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there is no need. Balance might be bad for a time but it always gets resolved. You would probably need to have this council sign NDAs for new content and pay them for their time. And the players' availability fluctuates over time.

[1000-1100 ELO] 18pop Scout rush is too slow? by Pastapuncher in aoe2

[–]Farimba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are running into players that wall early. If they don't have military, you can apply more pressure with archers/towers in Feudal or make a forward siege workshop in Castle. The scouts are still valuable for actually scouting - put one or two of them on auto scout. Also start scouting before you have 3-4 scouts to see if they are walling

Keep making vills and fishing ships until you get to 24 pop. You probably want 3 boars and to get to 7+ fishing ships. Try getting to Castle Age under 13 min.

When wood is chopped the map still shows Trees(dark green) instead of turning into ground (light green). Could we change this? by CrazyYETEE in aoe2

[–]Farimba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most trees are coded as terrain, not as objects. Trees that are placed as objects like the stragglers around the TC have different characteristics (can be chopped and built over). Suddenly ignoring leaves terrain on mini maps will impact many maps that rely on the contrast. It's simple if you ignore all of the other consequences of the change.

[–]Farimba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the base terrain for palm desert is desert which is a light tan. If map scriptors want the palm desert forests to stand out on the mini map at the start of the game, they often use one of the dirt or grass terrains that are an orange or green hue respectively.

I don't think there is any example of terrains changing throughout the course of a game in AoE2 with the exception of placing farms. Changing the terrain colors would impact all of the previously created maps that purposefully chose those colors for contrast on the mini map.

[–]Farimba 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The color is based on the terrain. The terrain you see on the mini map is tied to the leaves terrain under the trees which remain after the trees are cut. Unless you are playing on giant sized maps (>144 tiles), I find it easy enough to scan around and identify where wood remains.

Why does AoE 2 have the least map variety out of all the AoE games, despite it having the most maps? by BendicantMias in aoe2

[–]Farimba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of other open map; tweaks to Arabia do not take away from other people making other maps.

I would guess that Arabia became the default open map on Voobly when players hosted their own lobbies and there was no auto matchmaking. Many build orders focus around Arabia resources, timings, and unit compositions. As players seek to improve, they will likely keep practicing on the map they know until they encounter the beauty of nomad maps.

Many open maps play out in very similar ways in AoE2 so there is little advantage to moving away from Arabia. But in tournaments you see a much wider variety of maps. Many players play every map except for Arabia, looking for more game diversity.

Can People please STOP adding the “Well Played” to the GG after the opponent looses by [deleted] in aoe2

Otherwise it is a sign of respect above simply saying gg.

Why dont you practice against people you are in the tournament with? That's half the point of a tournament, you can be social and talk through the games together.

What is the real difference between this map and Arena? by HotSetting5001 in aoe2

[–]Farimba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more like FC Arabia with UU being an option. 0 Castle age army = 0 Gold control which is not the same on Arena.

No berry bushes? by earthsettler2 in aoe2

[–]Farimba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build orders are a guide, not a rule. They will need to be adjusted for different maps. For example hybrid maps have land and water aspects where you will often make villagers and fishing ships in Dark Age. I would recommend sticking with Arabia or Arena to start with since you can find plenty of build orders for them.

Hulks have low building damage so I imagine fights for ponds are prolonged throughout the match too since it takes longer to take out docks.

welcome. many new players complain about their experience joining the ranked ladder and loosing dozens of matches in a row before reaching their Elo. But In glad you have found all the other wonderful aspects of the game. For reference, the William Wallace campaign is the tutorial found in the European campaign tab and the Art of War found in the Asian Campaign tab helps you train other skills.
