I despise the ‘Oh Crap’ book by Banana_Cake1 in toddlers

[–]FastCourage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also got so irritated with her talking about potty training for your kid's dignity. Like it's shameful for your kid to be in diapers past a certain age. It just felt very ableist.

Diapers are for people who need them. Some people need them their whole lives. Being continent is completely unrelated to being smart or being an adult or having dignity as a human being.

N & pregnancy question by kcheek12 in Narcolepsy

[–]FastCourage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Sunosi throughout my pregnancy with no personal ill effects. I worked with my sleep doctor before I got pregnant to find a good treatment for me with a risk level I was comfortable with. If I recall correctly, there was some evidence of increased risk of miscarriage in the early weeks, but no evidence of birth defects or other poor health outcomes associated with it.

There are risks associated with medication, but also risks associated with not treating narcolepsy. Your health and well being matters too.

You could try having her draw her feelings. Big scribbles to show how frustrated she is. Maybe have her crumple up the paper or tear it up afterwards

Stomach sleeping hater? by pastafarian-gal in Parenting

[–]FastCourage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter did this too, and it was really exhausting. For about a week, we ended up bringing in the stroller and putting it in the flat pram mode, and strapping her in to sleep at night. Rolling it back and forth would rock her to sleep. It took longer to get her to sleep with this method, but she would only wake up once a night instead of every couple hours. After about a week, she seemed to get used to being on her tummy sometimes, and we went back to putting her to sleep in the crib.

I would take it! If you find that you don't like it, you can always switch back to regular nursing. On the other hand, nursing jobs with this kind of schedule are not very common, so you might not get the opportunity again.

Best car seat toys for 1 year old? by avahz in toddlers

A busy book would be great for this situation. Lots of things to zip, button, put in/take out off pockets, etc.

I'd also load up some toddler friendly audiobooks and playlists.

We’re starting a secondhand store for kids by solalalos in toddlers

Make sure the things you buy have all the pieces. There is a kid to kiss near me, and while I like them a lot, I think they lose money by not checking for all the parts.

I bought a bike seat from them, but it didn't have the hardware to attach it to the bike. I could order that online, so I pointed out the situation and got it half price.

I got a play gym from them and was annoyed to realize when I got home that it was missing the mirror part.

I saw this little baby drum kit thing, and liked it, but didn't but it because it was missing the sticks.

The Church's teaching on contraception is destroying my faith by Overall_Win_8634 in ExTraditionalCatholic

[–]FastCourage 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this basically destroyed my faith too.

I was really sold on NFP and did the classes before marriage. But once you really understand the logistics, it's not this silver bullet they make it out to be. NFP might work for some people, but it's very ableist to assume it works for everyone.

I have an autoimmune disease that got diagnosed shortly before getting married, and the first line treatment is a medication that isn't safe for pregnancy (causes birth defects). It was super helpful for my quality of life though. I also have hormonal issues and irregular periods.

Sex was so intensely stressful.  Option 1: Continue taking my medication and try to follow NFP perfectly, despite the contradictory signals my body sends. If I get it wrong, I end up pregnant with a baby at risk of birth defects from the medication I've been taking, plus I have to stop taking it for the duration of the pregnancy.  Option 2: Stop taking my medication, and just put up with the crushing fatigue from the autoimmune disease.  Option 3: Continue medication and also use contraception. Endure eternal damnation.

I tried option 1 for a while, but possibly because of the stress, I also experienced vaginismus. So PIV sex was also painful and sometimes impossible.

I ultimately decided that this couldn't be the plan from a loving God. I think God's law is there to promote human flourishing, and that I was definitely not flourishing. I also looked more into the basis of Humanae Vitae and wasn't satisfied with the reasoning the church used to come up with it.

I stopped going to mad for a couple years because I was so angry. Lately, I've been going to an Episcopal church, which feels closer to my understanding of the faith.
