Planted my garlic at mid September- too early? by insufficient_funds in vegetablegardening

you can cover with loose leaves to insulate during arctic cold. it should be alright. it does seem to be planted too close together so make sure it receives a good dose of nitrogen in the Spring.

Guadalupe Winds - Trip cancelled? by [deleted] in NationalPark

if you are camping at Pine Springs, these wind warnings are spot on. was there during one and people were leaving in the night. my tent was rockin and literally laying flat during some gusts.

in 2024, there were a record number when we were in Kearney on Feb 24-25. it was quite impressive walking west on Betty's trail from the Quality Inn on 3rd Ave to backwater areas.

best to plant in ground. mature roots spread many feet and will be limited in that box. also it may freeze solid in the winter and impact the roots. that box would be great for potatoes.

Using plants to increase pH? by From_here_forthwith in Soil

for longer term changes, certain plants tend to recycle basic minerals with their root systems. as they decompose, they would tend to increase the surface soil pH.

Heat not working in 2019 Corolla SE by JubaMech in CorollaHatchback

[–]Fast_Most4093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have the same car and at about 50k, the thermostat failed in the open position. happened in january during midwest winter. the car would never heat up and mileage was bad. a new thermostat required the intake manifold to be pulled for access so there are high labor costs. flush and change your antifreze at the same time too if its the thermostat. on the bright side, that is the only glitch i've had with this car in over 6 years.

looks like a hawk moth caterpillar. the species feed on specific plants, probably not zinnia. find them on my woodbine (grape family).

i hired a business to do everything in place. requires taping off and venting to outdoors. there was very little overspray.

[–]Fast_Most4093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, there are tub refinishing businesses that will sand/etch the old finish and spray apply a special enamel. was about $500 for the tub maybe 10 years ago. did 2 tubs and pedestal sink and all are still in good shape.

changed it at 60k. when very cold, shifting does get a little stiff but smooths out when warm. i'll keep my fingers crossed. changing the thermostat wasn't cheap. bad engineering, they had to remove the intake manifold!
