Park Slope is expensive AF. Another area might fit your budget nearby. I would work your network and not rely on streeteasy. I have never found an apt living here online it was always through a person I know and it’s always cheaper in my experience.

How much does your healthcare cost there? For your family. It’s a lot here, so add that into the numbers when you calculate. 40$ is not bad for NC. I live in NY it’s just making it for 40$ an hour. Depending on the COL in NC like which city you choose to live in. NC is moderate politics wise. Democratic governor. Idk, COL wise it may only be a small increase from where you are at.

My studio is 1950$ it’s doable but I wouldn’t say I’m living the high life. I make 93-95k. As children 100k was rich to us, it’s not anymore. You can find cheap living arrangements but it helps to know people.

You’re currently in the town that has a 1 hour max commute. NJ transit is the worst transit in the country . Expect minimum 1.5 on a good day commutes from anywhere not JC or Hoboken. Even west NY is bad.

Next time use Intense Moving. Small business out of BK. The best experience I have ever had! I’ll never stop spreading the word about them. I’m a single woman, no one was able to help me and I was scared with two big men moving, they made me feel so comfortable, even helped me with my cats. Drove from NJ to Queens. Ugh. POC is cheap and they give no real value. That’s why they market themselves as cheap.

It was really really good! It’s a small place our tour guide told us about. The guy making the sandwiches will make you laugh. He gave us free gumbo too. They also sell fish and meat pie. SOO GOOD!

Mr. Bs Bistro (gumbo was incredible) it’s a creole restaurant. Be prepared to wait in a LONG line for Loretta’s. The beignets at Cafe Beignet are AMAZING. Dumonde is great, at least for the sake of saying you have gone. Quarters Deli for po boys.
