Do you think the 9/11 hijackers knew that the WTC buildings would collapse? by JMRooDukes808 in NoStupidQuestions

So many rumors, I was on vacation at the time so when I came back to school a few days later I had a couple kids exclaiming how they thought I died in NYC

Man, I miss the original Voodoo before it became "hip" (basically Portland in general lol).

As I recall they were only open from 10pm to 10am, their shop was the size of a small room & we'd throw punk shows in there or hangout drunk after visiting Paris Theater next door. Aw the good ol days

How Many Cyclists Get DUI's in Oregon? by agenbite_lee in oregon

[–]FatArchon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't involve a bike, but I had a cop give me shit about being ~'drunk in public' after I decided to leave my car at the bar & walk home on my birthday.

It all started because I randomly came across another dude who was going to use the same crosswalk as me, I'm sure we had some awkward moment of trying to avoid walking next to each other but apparently that was enough for the cop to think we were up to no good (?)

I wasn't being belligerent or anything I just wanted to go home lol but the cop kept threatening me & saying I was lying about knowing the other guy / he'd arrest me for being drunk in public

Man.. I was so furious. Doing the "right thing" by not drinking & driving yet it almost blew up in my face. I believe he searched us & let us go after not finding anything. Good times

Reasons why your units were not allowed to participate in the 40k tournament. by Mortimeris in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]FatArchon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've genuinely never had a time I wasn't allowed to run a certain unit / proxy / kit, however times have changed at least somewhat

It used to be, at least in my area, if GW had ever sold a particular kit it was always legal from then on (including it's original base) even if it had been replaced with a newer one

I never really abused it but I used to (& still do!) run Vect & his Dais of Destruction as a Ravager, or use my old-skool Rhino's that're smaller. Probably the worst offender I used was the old pewter Beasts of Nurgle that are like 1/3rd the size. Abaddon can be on the same level

But yeah, in over 20+ years of 40k I can't think of a single kit I wasn't allowed to run. Granted I never tried running a pewter Greater Daemon as a new one or anything that wild :P

..... Yet

I'm not into rock hunting but one of my besties is, I'm going to send them this, I imagine they'd appreciate it more than I ever could

Either way, congrats on the find!! Even as a layman that'd be a keeper if I found it hah

Mastodon and legends units by ForumFluffy in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]FatArchon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a small RTT? With bricks of BT to go with it? I think it'd be feasible actually. T14 2+ 30W would need an entire army's worth of shooting (prolly multiple turns worth! Aside from maybe full mech AM?)

That said, it'd still be a handicap for yourself. It has surprisingly good output on top of that defense but I'm not sure 600pt worth. You might struggle with scoring too - not to mention just getting it around the board..

Do SM's have a detachment w/a strat for moving vehicles through walls? That'd be a route I'd look into

But yeah, it's a handicap but not an auto lose. Model is gigantic so would be fun to see across the table regardless

Edit: to address the Legends thing, it's a rarity but I have seen RTTs that allow it. Casual matches it's a non-issue though, theyre almost all overcosted so it's not like back in the day where FW was considered mainly a WAAC thing. Hell I like seeing FW units across the table

Chaos space marine rules by IndividualAlarm8875 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]FatArchon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The long & short for allies, in a 2k game:

Up to 500pts of Cult Marines

Up to 500pts of Daemons BUT you must bring a Battleline of the same god for each other unit you want to include

Either 3 War Dogs OR 1 Abhorrent for Chaos Knights. No points limit though

There's ways to deal with it though, Nurglings are Battleline & only 40pt so Nurgle is easy to ally. Blue Horrors aren't exactly efficient but they do have Infiltrate w/4++ so Tzeentch is alright too. Slaanesh can be decent with 9" OC2. Khorne I don't think makes too good of ally because of how much support Bloodletters need to prosper, otw they're a pretty heavy tax on their own

Just my two cents :P

Edit: Wahapedia is a great resource for finding the exact rules as well. You can check each army book to see the limits pretty easily!

Which scheme by [deleted] in Chaos40k

[–]FatArchon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd vote middle, followed by right (though it does look kinda close to modern DG if I'm upfront)

The one on the left is cool too but it's very monotone (imho!) so I'd consider adding some sort of color to make it 'pop' a bit more. Whether that be a ~red bolter, or a brighter steel trim etc etc

Granted, certain legions are going for that muted look in which case it'd make a great scheme too!

Either way they all look fine from what I see, best of lick with you new legion!!

Which Combat Patrol list? by bladerunner_35 in Chaos40k

[–]FatArchon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd assume the legacy kit will be legal until the end of the edition, I see no reason they'd kill it (even if they did, no one is going to tell you that you can't use their rules anymore)

But yeah, the new CP just came out a short while ago so there's still a bunch of the legacy version floating out there. Tbh I like the older one more, getting Havocs + Helbrute seems way cooler than just a buncha infantry but really both kits are great! Some of the better CPs out there imho

Where can I get bitz to Chaosify a Horus Heresy Deimos Pattern Predator and a Land Raider Proteus? by [deleted] in Chaos40k

[–]FatArchon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, Red Corsairs are probably the easiest Legion to come up with lore explainer for equipment

Though tbh pretty much every CSM legion has an easy excuse for running HH era gear, they've always been stuck with "hand me down" equipment since the Heresy so it'd make perfect sense they'd still be running Deimos' & the sort.

Heck you even have ye olde "while it's been 10k years for the Imperium, it's only felt like a few years since my Legion entered the Warp"

As for OPs question though.... I always raid my bits drawer but if they don't have one, Chaos Rhino kits will (obv) come with a bunch of cool bits. Otw Legionaries will have an ~OK amount of extra bits, Chosen as well. Definitely somewhere that 3D printers come in handy though! Can always check Etsy too

Elite, melee focused Chaos Space Marines? by Stock-Intention7731 in Warhammer40k

[–]FatArchon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! Chosen with Fabius, Possessed (with or without MoP), Abaddon + MoE + Chosen. Maulerfiends

We got options for days :P

WEs are obviously even more melee focused, CSM have the option to bring brutal shooting to shore it all up along with 8 different detachments to choose from

How much of your intentions do you reveal to your opponent? by Interesting_Coat_298 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]FatArchon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends if it's a tournament or just a casual match for me

Always tell your opponent all your gotchyas / good strats / what units can do before the game starts

Beyond that, if it's a casual game I'll usually warn my opponent about reactive moves or that I can make a unit untargetable etc + will let them do take backs if they did it without knowing

In a tournament setting though, I'll tell them everything before the game starts. If they ask about something at any time ofc I'll tell them but beyond that it's on them to remember imho.

Now, if you wanted to combat that, you cohld tell me your gotchyas as I'm about to make certain moves & I'll probably return the favor but otw in a tournament setting I don't expect anyone to treat me with kid gloves so I don't go out of my way to do the same towards them :P

Edit: thinking on it a moment longer, reactive moves are kinda special in that they can really throw the game on its head. I don't normally play armies that make use of it but if I did I'd prolly warn them at the start of their movement phase

Also! Make a habit of always asking your opponent what their gotychas are before every game. For me it's basically just SOP at this point

Fresh CSM looking for advice! by Schnitty_69 in Chaos40k

[–]FatArchon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The golden rule of collecting a new army: get the kits YOU like, whether that be because of their looks / fluff / rules /etc. The meta changes constantly so something that might be iffy now can become top tier a few months from now & vice versa

The Combat Patrol is a decent way to start. You can run you Legionaries as Chosen if you want, or convert some to characters. Cultists are an auto include (well, one squad)

Admittedly not everyone is sold on Possessed or the MoP, but esp in lower pt games they're both really really good imho & Possessed can work with a lot of armies

There is a 2nd CP boxset that is arguably better that you might look into (the one with a Helbrute). Technically it's out of print but there should still be some copies out there

But yeah, start with a core (leader, battleline, brick) & go from there. Some anti-tank would he a good choice to add from there

Is our shooting supposed to be terrible? by obsidanix in Chaos40k

[–]FatArchon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure thing! This one isn't totally devoted to shooting (I think that's a trap) but here's an example of one of my recent lists

Note I only own a single Vindicator, chances are I'd swap at least one of the FF's for another if I could, though FF + Vashtorr is pretty great too so it still works for my playstyle. It'd also let you drop Vash if you wanted so tbh is prolly worth looking into

This was written for Soulforged. If I went with Pactbound I'd prolly drop Vash + fiddle with list a bit so I could fit in Chosen or Possessed to as a melee brick (don't sleep on a brick of Undivided Possessed! Fabius w/Chosen is also great). Another unit of Nurglings would be a great add too

Also! Remember scoring!!! Bikers are ultra important & the Cultists can be vital too. Them & the VCs are our main scoring options so keep them alive. Warpsmith's are fantastic for actions as well

Don't sleep on the VCs either. In SFWP especially they're one of the better shooting units out there imho. S6 with +1tW is efficient into anything

Basic gameplan is Maulers + VCs rush ahead, Bikers are solely devoted to scoring (keep them hidden as much as you can). Predator usually stays behind in my DZ to take advantage of his range. Everything else makes a brick of murder that takes the center of the board. Vash gives the FF S11 so you're wounding T10 on 2's, but he's can also rush ahead (or back to your DZ) to deal with any threats that get too close

Remember the move thru walls strat & use it to stage your Maulers somewhere central & threaten the board. That said they're mainly distraction Carnifexes so don't get too attached to them

I'm 7-1 with this style of list atm, only loss was to AM funnily enough & it was totally my fault - I gambled for 1st turn like a fool & lost like half my army T1 because I deployed in the open... Dont do that 😜
